So the Emmy ballots are up and voting for nominations begins today.  In addition to Reality-Competition Program and Host, TAR has submitted itself to these categories:

Outstanding Directing For A Nonfiction Program
Outstanding Cinematography For A Reality Program
Outstanding Picture Editing For A Structured Or Competition Reality Program
Outstanding Sound Editing For A Nonfiction Program (Single Or Multi-Camera)
Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Nonfiction Program (Single or Multi-Camera)

TAR was nominated for all 5 of these Creative Arts Emmys in 2014, but was only nominated for Cinematography and Picture Editing last year.  TAR has not won any Creative Arts Emmys since 2007 (TAR10.04 was the submitted episode)

BUT! The ballots also reveal the ONE episode that will eventually be sent to voters if TAR is nominated for the series Emmy and the one episode that will be considered for the above Creative Arts categories:

I'll say the episode is definitely a good ep for the Cinematography category.
But I feel like it's basically TAR16's WWI episode which lost in all categories.

If you are just watching an Emmy submission, you are going to see majestic scenery, a close competition,  extraordinary physical challenge, a hold your breath for the wind moment, and a close finish.

They will love it.

TAR28-5 was a great with scenery, but it wasn't great design-wise.

I didn't like the detour tasks, but it was still a great episode. I didn't like Burnie & Ashley fighting for elimination that time, but had they not gone for the worse detour, the episode would've been much more boring.

I think the episode could've been better some way or another, but the resulted episode was great and decent enough.

While the episode is really terrible for super fans who realize the tasks were super linear and poorly designed with really easy tasks, I do remember liking the episode just because of how gorgeous the views were and how fun it would be to actually do the leg. I think it will be good for the Emmy's who care more about that stuff than doing phenomenal tasks. It will be fine.

Oh that leg! This whole time I was thinking of the Switzerland leg. Ok, I have a little more faith now than when I thought it was that one.

Cinematography I can really see them winning, maybe best reality show too, but the others? I don't think so. Hopefully they don't win editing or sound, because that is straight up awful and positive reinforcement will just continue it.

This
That

It was a horrible leg for us fans (mostly design-wise), but it's definitely a top-tier episode for an Emmy.

I'm generalizing of course. While there may be some superfans who liked it, I think many did not.

I think many people here did not like that episode, mainly because editing and what I said before. I find many fans on this site like to see challenging tasks that really shake up placement order not ones that have no impact on them.

The HK/Macau episode is a much better choice.

Another reason the Chamonix ep is a bad choice is if it does win an Emmy, Bertram and Co. will be encouraged to do more of the same types of Legs: Beautiful scenery, horrible Leg design.

I don't think Hong Kong would be that good of a choice due to the boring detour

They will be encouraged to do more beautiful sceneries for sure, but I don't think they were looking at the leg design to have it nominated.

I actually thought Charmonix was an excellent choice. Besides the fact that the pit-stop was reduced to bunching, but to be honest part of the race is all about luck. If the girls did not miss that train, maybe it would have been Blair and Scott eliminated or what..? But one thing you can't deny for sure is that a nine-way foot-race would have been epic. Of course it would have been better if there's a task before pit-stop or what, but you can't ask for everything?

I loved the views, the tasks, the competitiveness between the teams, rivalry and everything about that episode. Unless the Emmy judges are super fans and have issue with the bunching before the pit-stop, I'm so darn glad that this was chosen over Hong Kong. Any mentioned of TAR 27 should be banned, so it's even better if they don't even get recognized for having a good episode good enough for Emmy submission lol.

Yeah, the leg you're talking about here was pretty good apart from the bunching before pit stop. But it was the leg in Geneva, Switzerland and not Chamonix. :(
