BBCAN4 - Ramsey Aburaneh
(1/1)
Reilly Queens:
Fun and charismatic, this strategic player wants to downplay his athleticism and play like he’s just there to have fun.
Age: 26
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Occupation: Digital Marketing
Describe yourself in three words:
Fun, Charismatic, Strategic
Do you have a strategy to win Big Brother Canada?
Yes and no. I don’t have an A to Z plan because the show changes so much and you can’t get too locked to a plan. It’s safe to say that for the first half of the show I want to downplay my athleticism and just come off like a guy that just seems to be there to have fun and not really think about the competition side. Then when it’s time to, I’ll start to showcase who I really am, win some competitions, and stab people in the back. That’s my plan. Hundo P.
If you could take one thing inside the house, what would it be and why?
My mom. She’s the anchor in my life. I’m always thinking and quick to act on stuff, and she kind of keeps me level and calm. I was raised in a team environment. Sports has been a big part of my whole life, so when something runs through my head, I like to have a teammate to run it by. She’s very dear to my heart.
Brain vs. Brawn. Which challenges, physical or mental, do you fear most?
I am actually really athletic and have always played a lot of sports, but my plan is to throw a lot of competitions. My fear is that people will be able to tell that I’m doing that because it will be hard for me to hide that physicality, and then they’ll know I’m up to something.
If you won, how would you spend the $100k?
Well, if I won, I’d start off by taking a little chunk of it and have some fun travelling. My family is from Jordan and I haven’t been there since the age of 12 and I don’t even remember it. I’ve just been aching and dying to go. And then with the rest of the money, having been raised in an entrepreneurial family, I’d invest a lot of it and put that towards my future.
Who is your Big Brother Canada idol and why?
I don’t have an idol per se. I liked Kevin’s (BBCAN Season 3) style from last season, but really I’m going in there as Ramsey.
True North strong and free. What is your favourite thing about Canada?
I love how everyone respects different cultures and faiths here. I’m a proud Muslim and there are stereotypes about us out there, but no matter who I meet or where I am, Canadians will always judge by their actual experience of individuals rather than what the media portrays them to be. We have open minds and are inclusive, which is why I think we are the greatest country in the world.

‘Big Brother Canada 4’ pre-game exclusive: Will Ramsey Aburaneh market himself as the champ?
Earlier this week, we had a chance to speak with many of the contestants on “Big Brother Canada” season 4, and we think that on first glance Ramsey Aburaneh could be someone to watch. He comes from a huge family, and therefore is used to having a lot of people around. However, at the same time he’s also pensive. He’s not an enormous fan of the show, but he’s studied up. There are a lot of interesting moving parts about him as a potential player, and we’re interested to see how it all comes together.
Without further ado, let’s dive into it!
Tell us about yourself: Your name, where you’re from, your age, and what you do for a living.
I’m Ramsey Aburaneh, I’m 26 years old, I’m from here in Toronto, and I’m a digital marketing manager.
What made you want to try out for Big Brother Canada this year?
Honestly, the opportunity kind of found me. Everyone on my life has always said that I should do something on reality TV or YouTube; somebody told me about the open call and here I am.
So what’s your knowledge base? Are you a big fan of the show?
Not really like a super-fan. I’ve done my homework, but I would say that probably within the past five months I didn’t really know anything about the show.
If you could compare yourself to someone from ‘Big Brother Canada’ or ‘Big Brother US’ that you’ve seen from your homework, who would it be?
Honestly, I don’t know who I could compare myself to. I think I kind of have my own twist on things.
What’s something about you that would surprise people?
I would say that although I come off pretty extroverted and I do love people, especially in my real life I’m actually pretty introverted and I spend a lot of time alone. I like to read, I like to be on my own and think. A lot of people when they meet me think ‘oh, you’re such a people person, you like to be the life of the party.’ In reality I do enjoy spending time by myself. I think in this game I’m going to be by myself a lot thinking.
Do you have a specific strategy entering the house?
Honestly I did, but the more I think about it, the more [I’m not sure]. You know ‘Big Brother’; there are so many twists, and even if I have a strategy, I don’t know if it’s going to work out because of all of the different twists. I think as I’m just going to take things as they come. I’m going to rely on my social skills and my rapport skills and just go from there, and take what’s thrown at me, really.
What makes you think that you’ll be able to make it all the way to the end and win?
Well for one, I’m going to be a goofy, really fun guy on the show. I think not only Canada, but everybody in the house is going to love me. At least that’s the plan. What I want to do is get to know everyone; I’m not saying I am going to be best friends with everyone, but I want to be liked and I want to be fun so that people want to keep me to the end, even if they don’t necessarily think [it’s a good idea]. Even if it’s me against somebody else [to evict], I hope they will keep me because I’m more entertaining and I’m going to be more fun. As long as I can get myself to the later half of the show, I [can then] rely on my athleticism to get myself to the end.
What do you think your biggest weakness could be?
I definitely have to say that my biggest weakness is that I may be too trustworthy and too nice. In real life I am very trusting. I know that this is a game and everybody’s gotta look out for themselves … I’m worried that someone might be able to lead me to believe that they’re telling me the truth when in reality they’re not.
Other than winning the money, what’s the one thing you’re hoping to get out of this experience?
A solid group of friends. I understand this is a game, but I’m looking forward to going in and meeting an awesome range of friends and coming out of this with a great experience that I can look back on in twenty years and say ‘oh my god, we did that’ or ‘we said this.’
In closing, what do you want to say to Canada? Why should they be excited to see you this season?
I would say that Canada, get ready. I want to combine this [inner] prankster with this comedy character. I really want to flip the house upside down, and I think Canada’s going to love that. I want to get people [really excited]. We’re going to have a lot of fun with this one.
Overall impression – Just based on the interview itself, Ramsey’s a little all over the place. He’s social, yet he likes to be alone (there’s not going to be a lot of that in the early weeks); he’s funny, but he also has a pensive, serious side. How he does could depend heavily on what side shows up. Our big concern is just that he’ll be a little too in his own head.
