It depends on destination... I have been to Marrakech and during S25E05 all the action took place on 0.3 sq mile. So it was very easy to be with racers... I think we would see more of Phil during Maltese leg.

Eh I think this needs to be consistent other wise it might just be pretty lame.

Some legs may require or simply give him the chance to get ahead. Would be interesting to correlate this with the length of racer pitstops?

personally I think its awesome that he is out on the course with them and for them I can see it as being a moral boost to go faster...
