How would you categorize Legs?
« on: August 27, 2014, 09:51:36 PM »
Categorization is an important part of any Wiki, and as I round the corner with finishing making a page for every single Leg, I will need to categorize them. What kinds of categories would you come up with?

A few examples I have are,
-Elimination Legs
-Non-elimination Legs
-Legs in [Country]
-Legs with [X] Teams
...and other such "structural" categories, and then,
-Legs with an Eating Challenge
-Legs with an Animal Challenge
-Legs with a Height Challenge
-Legs with a Performance Challenge
-Legs with a Water Challenge
...etc. What other common trends such as these are seen often in legs?

Any other thoughts?

—Legs with a Speed Bump
—Keep-on-racing Legs
—Legs with the least locations featured (Ex: TAR17 England, TAR15 Tokyo)

Possible, but very tricky...
—Leg routes with the least/most distance covered (Ex: TAR22 Bora Bora for least, TAR9 Brazil-Russia-Germany for most)

Countries "raced": Greece (2019), Italy (2017), Switzerland (2017), Taiwan (2016), U.S. (WA 2013, CA [S.F. 2014, L.A. 2023], TX 2021, IL all the time)

Can anyone think of anything else to add to that second set in my post? What are some other very common trends in legs other than eating, animals, heights and water?

Leg structures:
Normal/Elimination Legs
Non-elimination Legs
Double-length Legs
Keep Racing Legs
Final 3 Legs (includes the Final 3 non-eliminations)

Tasks & Markers:
Legs Without a Detour
Legs Without a Roadblock
Legs With 2 Roadblocks
Legs With a Fast Forward
Legs With a Speed Bump
Legs With a Route Info Task (I'm not sure with this one)
Legs With an Intersection
Legs With a Yield
Legs With a U-Turn (separate (?) from Double U-Turn, Blind U-Turn, and Blind Double U-Turn)
Legs With a Switchback

Locations:
Legs on 1 Country
Legs on 2 Countries (usual legs, e.g. Leg 1: United States > Chile)
Legs on 3 or More Countries
Legs that Visited Territories (defined as either geographically distant (e.g. French Polynesia) or geopolitically separate (e.g. Hong Kong))

Others:
Self-Driving Legs
Night Legs (there isn't an HoO where teams had to wait for morning)
Legs With Double Eliminations (2 teams eliminated on the same leg)

On route distances, maybe you could use ranges (e.g. 50 km - 100 km). Also, I don't think you should categorize what type the tasks are, since a lot of them are hybrids... :)
