Final Memory Challenge
« on: July 26, 2014, 05:03:04 PM »
We all know that by about leg 5 last year, we were pretty confident on what the FMC would be (the flowers + state flags). Has anyone got any thoughts on this year's? I *think* I have a good idea of what it is - the greeters have all deviated from the normal script of "[Local greeting], welcome to [place name], [country/territory]" and said "Welcome to [place name]" and then a description. Could these descriptions be the FMC this time?

Well, I am not sure there will be a final memory challenge, and if there is I am not sure it will have anything to do with the greeters. Only because the Tims' win last year was so influenced by that challenge, and it became well known that Tim Sr. was told by his wife to memorize everything about the greeters and clues. I think if there is a memory task, there will be a physical component to it as well.

My first guess would have been the greeters' outfits, since they all seem to be wearing pretty much one colour so far.

#1 - Black
#2 - Red
#3 - Orange

Geesh...u r reading my mind! I was sitting here trying to think of connections. At first I thought of bodies of water, then food. And I can even think of connections in future legs. Like PEI potatoes, New Brunswick Lobster, Montreal Deli. Paris could be anything like cheese and wine. LOL

Another question is ... where did this memory challenge take place? The Museum of Natural History would seem logical, but was that high wire act in the atrium just a clue retrieval or was there more to it?

They never ate the fish, so would they count it as food?
It was a fish processing plant. Maybe they don't have to eat it per say

I like the deviation from original speech idea, because there are at least 2 more you can get out of it - Macau (the city of gambling) and Paris (the city of love)

the city of idea is well and truly valid.

Tolfeno (or however it's spelt) = the city of surf
Victoria = city of gardens

Tofino's was the one that tipped me off to this maybe being true, when the surfer said "Welcome to Tofino, the end of the line", and Meaghan commented on it. Victoria was "British Columbia's beautiful capital".

I might have to watch it again, but I don't think the greeter in Macau said anything. Jon jumped right in to congratulate the Hockey Girls.
But there were almond biscuits! LOL

I was just going to point this out too WindsorSue! I suspect they might have delibrately omitted it to throw us off, or use Jon's description instead (he called Hong Kong "Asia's Global City" in the intro in Ep 4)! If they don't show it next week, it's back to the drawing board.

It did stick out like a sore thumb that girl said nothing! Maybe they will show it on the extended mat chats on the site.

It could be food (even if it was uneaten)
Leg 1: Tea
Leg 2: Fish
Leg 3: Snake
Leg 4: Almond cookies

I feel that this would be easy. But I think that the greetings "End of the Line, BC's beautiful capital, etc." would be pretty easy as well.

The greeter in Macau only said "Welcome to Macau".
Food alone may be too easy, perhaps there is another commonality we have missed.

How could they make that into a challenge though? The only way I could think of is having the uniforms and having to put them in order.

Looks like we're back on the location bandwagon - Macau is "the city of duality", and the Yukon is "Canada's larger-than-life territory" (said twice)!

Yes, but were they spoken to or observed by the teams? (Macau) If not and they go this route, it would be a total guess on their part.

Maybe it was said & edited out, and then producers added it to Ep 5 to make sure viewers follow along.

Canada's larger-than-life territory was said by Jon in the introduction to the Yukon and by the greeter at the Pit Stop. City of Duality was what Jon said in the first segment before the Pit Start.
