I completely agree! Hopefully they are just laying low amongst the locals and doing moving singularly through the race...or aren't as recognizable in their colors…maybe the maroon isn't as bright and doesn't catch attention?

The 9th-place/Leg 3 curse is that teams are eliminated in weirdly exceptional circumstances. Here's the list I know:
Edited: I did add more after Platrium's, but excluded those that are a bit common..

S1    Leg3/9th - Pat & Brenda got tricked by a vague Detour that put them in last and got left further behind after getting separated by trains going to the pit stop.

S2   Leg3/9th - Peggy & Claire took a bad flight plan that put them a full day behind all of the other teams.

S3   Leg3 - Dennis & Andrew were so far behind due to a bad flight plan that even a Fast Forward couldn't save them.
        9th place - Heather & Eve went from 1st place to eliminated due to a single 37-minute penalty.

S4    Leg3 - Russell & Cindy, already behind, were put in dead last after getting on the wrong train due to a miscommunication with the train ticket agent (Gmund versus Gmunden).

S5    Leg3/9th - Jim & Marsha accidentally bought tickets for different flights for each member, putting them in last in all standby lists, resulting them on not getting on any of the flights.

S6   Leg3/9th - Lena & Kristy never completed the Roadblock even after 10 hours of trying.

S7   Leg3/9th - Debbie & Bianca got lost in Argentina and got eliminated even after three teams took a 4-hour penalty for a Roadblock Debbie & Bianca completed.

S10  Leg3/9th - Duke & Lauren depleted their money, got a bad local guide, then got separated from the other teams going into the Detour, not even making it within Tom & Terry's 30 minute penalty.

S14   Leg3/9th - Brad & Victoria took an unnecessary risk for a flight that didn't paid off, putting them far behind and eliminating them.

S15   9th place - Zev & Justin arrived first, but because of a lost passport, they had to forfeit the race.

S18  Leg3 - Mel & Mike quit the Frog of Luck Detour due to onsetting hypothermia, allowing Jaime & Cara to pass them and survive.

S22   9th place - Jessica & John refused to use their Express Pass, putting them in last place and in elimination.

S23   Leg3/9th - Chester & Ephraim got delayed several times on the way to Portugal, which placed them so far behind that they were eliminated upon arrival at the airport.

There's a lot more in the 9th pace curse. There's a thread for that for those who don't know. Also, I noticed that this curse doesn't exist in all-star seasons.
9th place curse: This is for teams who finish 9th place unluckily.
There are different types of 9th place curses:
a.) The High Placement: The team has received at least one high placement before getting eliminated.
b.) Unlucky Situation: This can come from penalties, bad cabs, bad flights, lost passports, etc.
TAR Seasons: (match these from the letters above; DNE = does not exist)
1: A (1st --> 9th)
2: B (bad flight)
3: A / B (penalty, arrived 1st in their elimination)
4: A (1st --> 9th)
5: [I forgot.]
6: B (haybales)
7: A (1st on earlier leg)
8: DNE
9: A (3rd on earlier leg)
10: B (2nd, 3rd on earlier legs)
11: DNE
12: B (never got the chance to get ahead for one whole leg)
13: A / B (2nd, 4th on earlier legs / penalty)
14: B (bad flight)
15: A / B (lost passport, arrived 1st in their elimination)
16: A (2nd on earlier leg)
17: A (1st --> 9th)
18: DNE
19: A? (3rd on earlier leg, but they initially arrived 10th)
20: B (wasting time, first out of SLT)
21: B (bad cab)
22: A (1st, 2nd, 3rd on earlier legs, EP)

I have noticed this thing on 9th place teams even before I saw a thread like this here on RFF.

My gut says the biker girls got the curse. They were from the 1st flight on the 1st leg, and they were not seen in Denmark, Sweden, or Morocco
