BBC AMERICA’S Hit Original Series Orphan Black Begins Production On Season Four

Published: September 28, 2015

Emmy® Nominated Star Tatiana Maslany Returns to her Breakout Role.

Toronto – September 28, 2015 – BBC AMERICA announced today that production has begun on season four of the Peabody Award-winning series, Orphan Black. Tatiana Maslany (Two Lovers and a Bear, Woman in Gold) returns to her Emmy® nominated role as multiple clones in the critically-acclaimed pulsating thriller (10 x 60). The explosive third season plunged the clone sisterhood into dangerous territory where they faced the threat of extermination by forces old and new. Banding together, they defeated their most formidable foes – male clones who also happened to be their blood brothers. But while it appears their tactics and allegiances have left them all clear to move forward, the past will reappear to haunt their future. Orphan Black is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC AMERICA and Bell Media’s Space.

Award-winning Maslany wowed audiences in season three, playing seven recurring characters including British street-wise chameleon Sarah, suburban drug-dealer and soccer mom Alison, love-struck scientist Cosima, Ukrainian wildcard Helena, disfigured professional Rachel, ghost Beth Childs – the detective who committed suicide at the inception of the series – and the newly introduced Krystal, a ditzy aesthetician trying her best to piece together the puzzle of her life.  Throughout three seasons, Maslany has played 13 clones that have helped earn her first Emmy® and SAG nominations, two Critics’ Choice awards and a Golden Globe© nomination.

Season four of the drama will see leader-of-the-pack, Sarah, reluctantly return home from her Icelandic hideout to track down an elusive and mysterious ally tied to the clone who started it all – Beth Childs.  Sarah will follow Beth’s footsteps into a dangerous relationship with a potent new enemy, heading in a horrifying new direction. Under constant pressure to protect the sisterhood and keep everyone safe, Sarah’s old habits begin to resurface. As the close-knit sisters are pulled in disparate directions, Sarah finds herself estranged from the loving relationships that changed her for the better.

“Orphan Black has touched a remarkable chord with fans the world over and continues to delve into provocative subject matter with a sure and entertaining touch,” says Sarah Barnett, President and General Manager, BBC AMERICA. “Tatiana’s performance is quite frankly phenomenal, proving quite convincingly, there is nothing else like Orphan Black on television, and no one like Tatiana Maslany.”

“The cast and crew of Orphan Black are thrilled to start work on season four of our critically-acclaimed series,” said David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, executive producers of Orphan Black and co-presidents of Temple Street Productions. “The show continues to engage more fans from around the world with our gripping storyline led by the stellar Tatiana Maslany.”

Returning this season is Jordan Gavaris as Sarah’s battle worn foster brother Felix, Maria Doyle Kennedy as Sarah and Felix’s foster mother Mrs. S, Kristian Bruun as Donnie, Alison’s partner-in-crime and husband, Kevin Hanchard as Art, Beth’s detective partner who’s torn between his job and his loyalty to the clones, Skyler Wexler as Sarah’s long-suffering daughter Kira, Ari Millen as a mysterious new Castor clone, the likes of which we’ve never seen before and Josh Vokey as Scott, Cosima’s lab partner. Also returning this season is James Frain as Ferdinand, an intimidating “cleaner” for shadowy organization, Topside, Allison Steadman as Kendall Malone, “the original” and Rosemary Dunsmore as Susan Duncan, Rachel’s adoptive mother and one of the leading scientists of Project Leda. Joining the Orphan Black cast this season is Joel Thomas Hynes as Dizzy, an edgy, self-reliant hacker who doesn’t conform to group mentality. Additional casting for the series will be announced in the coming weeks.

Orphan Black is co-created by Graeme Manson (Cube, Flashpoint) and John Fawcett (Spartacus, Ginger Snaps), with Manson also serving as writer and Fawcett as director; and executive produced by Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier. The international hit series is distributed by BBC Worldwide and can be seen in more than 170 countries. The first three seasons are currently available on Blu-ray and DVD and via digital download on all partner platforms.  The first two seasons are available for live streaming through Amazon Prime. For more information on where to catch up on Orphan Black, visit www.bbcamerica.com/orphanblack.

Orphan Black is shooting in Toronto through March 2016 and returns on BBC AMERICA in Spring 2016.

BBC America’s ‘Orphan Black’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

By BBC America | 5 hours ago

Some news Clone Club has been waiting for: BBC AMERICA announced the renewal of its award-winning original series Orphan Black for a fifth and final season. The drama starring Tatiana Maslany has been re-commissioned for a 10-episode order from Temple Street and is slated to air in 2017. The series has been hailed as “thoroughly impressive, wildly entertaining” by The Hollywood Reporter, and as “a singular accomplishment in drama” by The Daily Beast.

Sarah Barnett, President of BBC AMERICA, stated, “Orphan Black is a thrilling, genre-bending ride that has captured our fans’ imaginations and hearts like no other show. Our genius team of actors, writers and producers have, time after time, taken us to a place of awe, delight and utter shock and surprise. Tatiana has been and continues to be a complete revelation, hers is one of the most remarkable performances on television, and she is joined by an extraordinary cast.  We can’t wait to take our incredibly passionate audience on one final gobsmacking clone adventure.”

Co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson stated: “We are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show.  We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC AMERICA and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high.”

“When we embarked upon this journey with John and Graeme, we knew we had something special on our hands, but didn’t imagine how deeply it would resonate with audiences and the worldwide acclaim it would receive.  We are truly in awe of Tatiana who, each season, pulls off the impossible and brings each clone and their unique personalities to life in an extraordinarily captivating way,” said David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, Executive Producers of Orphan Black and Co-Presidents of Boat Rocker Studios.

“We are so proud of the cast and crew, who will be on this final ride with us as we draw the Orphan Black story to a close, and extremely thankful to our partners at BBC America and Space for their continued support, as well as the legions of fans who have made these five seasons possible”.

The series has received considerable critical and award attention. It earned a Peabody Award in 2014, and lead actress Tatiana Maslany has received a 2015 Emmy nomination for Best Actress, two Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actress, a TCA Award for Individual Achievement, a Young Hollywood Award, a Gracie Award, two Canadian Screen Awards and Golden Globe®, SAG and People’s Choice nominations.

The Season 4 finale airs tonight, Thursday, June 16th at 10/9c.

Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany Wins First Emmy Award: 'I Feel So Lucky'

By Andy Swift / September 18 2016, 8:08 PM PDT

Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards gave the Clone Club much reason to rejoice.

Tatiana Maslany — best known for playing… too many characters to count, honestly — took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. It was her first Emmy win, having been nominated once before in 2015.

“I should have had this written down,” the Orphan Black star said with a laugh as she took the stage. “There are so many people I feel so indebted to.” She went on to thank the show’s creators for her “dream job,” as well as the show’s “incredible writers’ room, beautiful cast and crew.”

She concluded, “I feel so lucky to be on a show that puts women at the center. Thank you so much to the Academy. Thank you.”

Orphan Black wrapped its fourth season on BBC America this summer; its upcoming fifth season will be its last.

“I didn’t expect it at all,” Maslany told reporters backstage. “It’s such an honor. The category I’m in is all these woman I’ve looked up to so long and whose work I so admire. … I haven’t quite breathed yet since I got off the stage. Hopefully at some point it’ll sink in.”

Who’s New And Who’s Back For The Final Season Of Orphan Black

October 25, 2016 by Space

Proud new Emmy statuette owner Tatiana Maslany has just begun shooting the final season of the show that won her the Outstanding Lead Actress award—Orphan Black. As the production begins rolling in Toronto, intel on which cast members will be returning (Delphine!) and which new characters will be thrown into the mix (the allegedly ancient PT Westmoreland) is making its way to us.

Naturally, Maslany will be back heading up a Clone Club comprised of OB veterans like Jordan Gavaris, Kristian Bruun, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Kevin Hanchard, Ari Millen, Josh Vokey, and Skyler Wexler. Which means that Sarah and her Leda sisters will have allies like Felix, Donnie, Mrs. S, Art Bell, and Scott backing them up—not to mention Kira’s impressive new psychic powers.

After a long fourth season of separation, Evelyne Brochu will also return—vindication for fans who never believed that Delphine really died at the end of Season 3. Following her reunion with Cosima at the end of the last season, Delphine will be back for Orphan Black’s end run. We’re going to go ahead and suggest a clone wedding party for the finale right now.

Adorable comic book store owner Hell Wizard (Calwyn Shurgold) will be back, too. So will the evil frittata chef and former Topside fixer Ferdinand (James Frain)—which probably means that Rachel didn’t meet some terrible offscreen, between-season end. Sorry, everyone.

There’s a slate of new actors joining the cast as well: Elyse Levesque (SGU Stargate Universe) will play Detective Engers, a corrupt cop in the pocket of the Neolutionists;  Andrew Moodie (Covert Affairs) is Mr. Frontenac, a mysterious consultant hired by Rachel;  Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) takes on the role of Mr. Mitchell, Kira’s teacher (it’s about time that kid went to school); Jenessa Grant (Reign) will play an islander known as Mud, and Stephen McHattie (The Strain, Pontypool) is P.T. Westmoreland, the legendary and supposedly 170-year-old founder of Neolution—the man we’ve all been dying to meet.

Orphan Black will have its Season 5 premiere in the spring of 2017. Until then, catch all four previous seasons on CraveTV.
