For the Malaysia connections, it might be due to... you guessed it, BUDGET! :whoop: Taking a high-speed or fuel-powered train to Sabah, Malaysia from Guangzhou ).

That is funny......damn funny!!!!!

I think plane tickets to Melbourne are cheaper than train/ferry tickets to Malaysia from China but that's just me.  :cmaslol

Could the plan have been Philippines to Australia to Sri Lanka? Cancelling the Philippines because of the typhoon could have caused a problem getting in and out of Australia on time. I thought they were in a bit of a rush getting in and out of Malaysia...
Here's my crazy thought...

Since Guangzhou, China is particularly a weird first destination to reveal in the first Leg (especially because Shanghai was visited three seasons ago in the premiere), I think Manila or Quezon City would have been the router's original plan, but due to the typhoon still sparking political and environmental controversy, TAR didn't want to deal with the same FOX crap that stunned the nation during TAR22's visit to Hanoi.

For the Malaysia connections, it might be due to... you guessed it, BUDGET! :whoop: Taking a high-speed or fuel-powered train to Sabah, Malaysia from Guangzhou is much cheaper than purchasing 20 or 22 economy-class tickets to Melbourne. I wish TAR had a bake sale fundraiser to make a shocking route like TAR10 (Madagascar to Finland to Ukraine) or TAR7 (Turkey to England).

HOW IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU TAKE A TRAIN TO MALAYSIA THERES LOADS OF MILES DISTANCE NOT TO MENTION WATER?

Although I think Rachel meant the controversy that would arise from the American public for visiting the Philippines while parts of it are still reeling from the disaster (like how people read too much into the "propaganda dance" in Hanoi etc), not that the race route would be logistically affected itself.

And hovercraft trains aside, they did save a ton of money by taking AirAsia to Sabah and AirAsia again to Kuala Lumpur instead of flying almost everyone to Australia on a full-fledged carrier...

You know, I wonder what happened to the US$1 million they saved when Abbie & Ryan were eliminated in Season 21, surely they didn't spend it all up on TAR 22 and 23?

That money was to be the proceeds of an event insurance policy that could be paid out if the event happened. It was never actual cash sitting around in a bank vault waiting to be paid out. All production did was pay the premium for the coverage.

If finale is in Vegas, why there no sighting? maybe because hot air? Or Spoiler hunter is not there? Usually finish mat is located in no one can see without permission area. Or go to another area???  :cmas5  :cmas11  :cmas19

Roif, if you read this thread and the live sightings thread, then you would know that this finale was at night and the weather was winter cold (winter weather warnings were ongoing that night in the region around Las Vegas). That means it is much more difficult for bystanders to see things going on and this, post anything on Twitter or Facebook; and harder to have a read where the final mat was.

I'd assume that we will have our second ever in doors finish seeing as it's a night leg finale.

:whoop: Unless it is rainy, dangerously windy, or blizzarding, I really don't see the point of setting up a Finish Line indoors.

Knowing it's Vegas, the only places for a Finish Line would be inside or outside the city because of the amount of people.

So people won't see them racing and spoil the results. That's likely why they did it in New York City a couple of seasons back.

It still surprises me that we had no sightings at all, unless the information that's floating around about the finish order is from a sighting report.

I'm thinking the finish line will be at one of the major Hotels on the Strip. I'm thinking either The Mirage, Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo or Caesars Palace.

Finish Line in a conference room? Yeah, that sounds amazingly beautiful. :funny:

Or... since Las Vegas is known for their lush golf courses, maybe we'll have another TAR14 and finish at a golf course. Hosting the "big mat" at a MAJOR hotel could spill the beans easily. That's why in TAR15, the Finish Line was at a private property.

You know what, I have a gut and heart feeling that a golf course is the Finish Line median. Googled it and found the Golf Digest website giving me the gold mine of ALL 52 courses (not just the top 25) within the Las Vegas area, map included.
:yess:
http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-courses/2011-11/25-top-courses-in-las-vegas

Overlooking a scenic setting near the end of the episode, I'd say the best bets of the location of the "big mat" are the Paiute Golf Resort... Arroyo Golf Club... and Shadow Creek.

We have had golf course finishes before, they work well. But in the dark at night? Not so sure how that would play out.

Perhaps in like the club room or close to the club room for best lighting.

I'd suspect the golf course managers temporarily setting up pagoda garden lighting fixtures from Home Depot or something for teams to follow.

Okay, let's start thinking from the scratch pad. :wine:

THINGS WE SPEC. OR KNOW ABOUT LEG 12:
- Las Vegas is confirmed (in radio signal distances)
- ZERO live sightings and/or blurbs of final 3 :o
- Night Leg (this is crucial since most POI's start closing for the day)
- F3 arrived in LV at a near 7:00 P.M.
- Finish Line speculated to be at a golf course

Okay, let's think night. Most visitors are likely to be eating dinner, playing at a casino, or watching Jaymes & James during this time so those Strip hotels are likely to be out of the question. I think immediately after touching down, teams had to take a taxi to Red Rock Canyon to find a clue box before the roads turn pitch black. Returning back into the city, teams may have had to find a hotel & casino, but not on the Strip so to avoid publicity. What I think is the Tropicana was visited. It remains one of the oldest hotels in Las Vegas

What about Hoover Dam as a finish line? I have been there last September, at night, and I was the only one. So it's a perfect spot to hide when you do not wanna be seen. Plus illuminated Hoover Dam looks great at night.

I think the final leg would be like: 1. Arrival to LAS, 2. Roadblock/Detour @ Las Vegas or (transfer by helicopter to) Boulder City, 3. Transfer to Hoover Dam area, 4. Final task (bungee jumping from Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge would be great), 5. Finish Line at Hoover Dam. Go, go, go!!!

AFAIK, Joey & Meghan and Brenchel started tweeting after the Race and they were in the Mirage. It might have been either our Finish Line or Final Sequester.
