'American Idol' Third Placer Angie Miller Signs Publishing Deal With Universal Music

When "American Idol" season twelve finalist Angie Miller performed her self-written original song "You Set Me Free" on the show, she might not have expected that it would get her noticed more as a songwriter than as a singer. But now, after getting her first major publishing deal with Universal Music, it may well have paved the way for her career as a budding composer.

Universal Music Publishing Group has signed the 19-year-old Beverly, Massachusetts-born Miller to an exclusive co-publishing deal, giving the company ownership rights over her current and future compositions as well as administrator privileges over her work. With the major deal being inked by Miller, 2013 is looking to be a lucrative year for the third placer.

A recording deal may not be too far in the horizon for Miller as the young singer has already hinted in past interviews that she's on her way to closing that deal as well. Big winner Candice Glover is gearing up for the July 16 release of her debut "Music Speaks" while an album by runner-up Kree Harrison is said to be also underway already, with the cover artwork already shot.

Universal Music has partnered with "Idol" to release music by the show's alums, particularly the top winner and the runner-up, which is exactly what happened in the case of season ten couple Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina and season eleven's Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez.
