They did it on the second season and it was a nightmare... but it could work right now.

That's right! I didn't remember it because I've never watched that season before. Thanks!

And TAR7. ;)

It would definitely be awesome if they did Africa next though. South America to Europe is so predictable. I know it drives others RFF'ers crazy, but I don't mind when we completely lose track of the race for a few days... :P

It was only a few seasons ago that they finally did South America to Oceania/Australia, but IIRC, All Stars was the first time the Racers were able to fly directly from South America to Africa without connecting through a third continent.

At this point, any direction is possible other than the U.S., so I wouldn't rule anything else out.

Judging by the pit stop photo I posted in the sightings thread, it looks like the Afghanimals are safely through to leg 2.  :)

Yeah, that seems to be the case. And the pit stop was in Arturo Prat Square, next to the Clock Tower.

Screwed up, posted this in the wrong thread... But I'm mildly depressed that it's another LAX start.

since they're already filming in Iquique, Chile which is near to the countries of Peru and Bolivia, probably after that leg they'll drive or ride on a bus/train either to those countries.  OR, hopefully they'll fly westward to Easter Island because that place are very exotic and famous for monolith statues there. :<3

Oddly enough, it just occurred to me that when Alex Boylan did his on-camera season of Around the World For Free, He did enter Chile from Peru through that area, and went to Iquique at the time of an earthquake, so there were problems communicating with him and his camera-IT man at that point. (And Alex went there after going to  Machu Picchu, so that may we;; be worth the speculation)

All the racers seen in Iquique were probably on the Miami flight, the FF cheerleaders and FF pink/orange and the MM Afghanimals. Also on that flight were the MM blacks, MF green bandanas on packs.
The Dallas flight got to Santiago 2 hours later at 9:30AM.

Good question. Don't know the answer. The other 2 on Miami MM black, and FM with green bandanas on pack not seen, nor any on the DFW flight, that I know of. Unknown what flight for MF tall guy and blonde-pink. Still only counting 10 teams.

I'm really confused... there can't really be only 9/10 teams can there?

I'm really hoping pink hair is a team and that there's another secret one somewhere...

I think there was a report of 6 couples paragliding. Maybe the MF tall guy with blonde-pink girls was 6th on the Miami flight, and therefore the 6th paraglider. What happened to the 4 DFW couples? Is there an 11th team?

Me says 2 more legs South America, fly to Europe for 2 to 3 more legs and its Asia baby all the way. I have a feeling Africa will be skipped this season. Or maybe just one leg there.

Highways A-1 and A-16 leading south from Iquique to Iquique airport IQQ will be or have been closed sometime today due to some controlled "mining blasts" on the way.

There will be blasts and there will be traffic closures on routes A-1 and A-16.

(The town of Alto Hospicio, 1500 feet above Iquique, is where paragliders take-off from)

There were plenty of tweets about highway closures and explosive blasting yesterday as well. It must be an ongoing project.

The Estrella newspaper from Iquique mentions that yesterday's greeter was Pamela Díaz.

Notice her recent silence (black-out) even when she is an active tweeter.

The article from the newspaper that Plaidmoon posted at the live section talks about 8 pairs running in Iquique that were spotted.
We know that at the first flight from Miami were only 7 teams, so I wonder if one of the last teams somehow caught up with the first flight, (unless of course the article is wrong, always a possibility!).
