As I predicted, there are many typos in pictures in that Roadblock.
So funny when Joey & Meagan got the ingredient for Pho because they went to the same shop as Max & Katie, the shop owner already knew what they need but gave them everything wrong :))

And for the song, I don't think it said anything about Vietnam war with America. Just about a bright future of Vietnam with the leading of Communist Party.

The other teams have the same reaction as us , about JJ's elimination.
100% commitment makes everything easy
99% commitment makes everything hard

  • TAR 22 <3; TAR 23 must be better
Guess we have a Teams Coupling now :

Pam&Winnie + Max&Katie
Joey&Meghan + Mona Beth
Caroline&Jennifer + Bates&Anthony
while Chuck&Wynona is JET&CORD...  :tantrum

I feel bad though for Meghan. The target on JJ's back kind a move to her&Joey now. She really did NOTHING and VOALA they got U-TURNED ...
I guess that's the consequence for aligning yourself with JJ. Well at least JoeY&Meghan DID NOT forget to USE the other slot on the U-TURN board  :lol3:

Please Bring'em back:
=======================================
MM: Jaymes&James; Mark&Bopper
FF: Caroline&Jennifer; Pam&Winnie; Natalie&Nadiya;
MF: Joey&Meghan;
Couple : Max&Katie; Abby&Ryan; Brendon&Rachel; Amani&Marcus;
Elder Couple : Chuck&Wynona; Bill&Cathi;
======================================

As much as Chuck & Wynona are a sweet team and I felt bad when they got U-turned they are on borrowed time already. I think the reason why they got U-tunred is because Meghan & Joey wanted to make sure they U-turned a team that was behind them. They had probably spent 30 minutes in a cab and had no idea they were in second place, if they knew what us viewers did they probably would have gone for a different team.

Also, is Dave & Connor the first team to actually give up on the race while essentially still having a chance? Other teams have quit in the past, but then they were already in last place and essentially just took a penalty that made them get eliminated, while Dave & Connor actually gave up, and would probably have survived the leg if they went on.
This makes Dave & Connor very likely candidates for a new Unfinished Business season.

Caroline & Jennifer thinking they need to win a chess game <33333333333333 Love them <333333333333333333 :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

Once Caroline & Jennifer realized the chess Detour was not a game against them men seated at the board, their strategy of choosing 4 people, taking them to the chess board area, and then putting them in the right place was probably the fastest.  They only had to run to the chess board to check their results instead of returning to the pool of people milling about.

1. No, no, and no. I think several of the tasks they used in Vietnam were insulting to every American and especially to anyone who served during that war. Having the U-Turn located next to a shrine for a US plane that was shot down was particularly offensive. It was propaganda at it's very worst and CBS ought to be ashamed. My wife and I have watched this show every year it has been on and I don't think any leg of any season affected me as negatively as that one did.

Just watched the episode. For your reference, I kinda think that the lady that helped the newlyweds with the translation was The Amazing Race Vietnam's contestant Tran Gia Binh:

No, she isn't. I don't see any familiar between them.

Looks like all the teams are friends except members of the silly alliance
I believe that I have the answer. Except during ridiculous attempts to build non-existent suspense by misleading viewers into the time gap between the teams fighting bear the pit stop for survival, World Race Productions typically tries to align the task performance of all the teams in chronological order. That means the David/Connor withdrawal actually occurred before the HOO expired. They were probably ready to do so on arrival in Hanoi, but I guess they were held back by Production to allow Phil to rest and daylight to appear to assist HD filming.

Wynona is going to have to do something eventually :lol:
You bet. With a ROADBLOCK count now at Chuck 5/Wynona 1, this team will not last much longer. They are consistently finishing at the bottom of the pack.

The Roadblock is so random... But so genius!

"It's like One Direction." :lol3:
RachelLeVega,
That is the one of the least random ROADBLOCKs I can remember. It rewards excellent memory and the ability to on the spot form an alliance to have two selected individuals from different teams work together to get it done. I will agree with you that it is a very high-quality and interesting ROADBLOCK.

Max & Katie arrive start carrying basket and chickens. The ingredients list isn't in English omg.

The way I heard it is exactly the opposite. The list was in English, but what use is that in a Vietnamese market? Each team doing Make a Meal had to find a translator who could speak Viet to the the market vendors.

Really surprised by some questionable U-Turning decisions... :stare can kinda understand why Joey & Meghan chose Chuck & Wynona, but they would've been better off with another team imo, and the big alliance wants to get rid of JJ's minions instead of stronger teams... :crazy:
This happens in a world of imperfect information. Traditional wisdom holds that the sure thing for U-Turns is to attempt to discern who the team in last place is, so that there is more breathing room between Joey/Meghan and them. Their guess of Chuck/Wynona was correct. In my opinion, they made the best choice possible. Who else were they going to UTurn? Joey/Meghan didn't know where either Max/Katie or Caroline/Jennifer were and they would not do it to their Alliance partners Mona/Beth.

Whoa! I saw a lot of meltdown in Facebook page. They all complain about the communism thing. I'm not really good at American history, and it must be related with Vietnam war, what's actually happened? I'm afraid people don't want to watch TAR anymore because of it.
To make a brief summary of it, the U.S. mistook Vietnam's anticolonislist sentiments from fighting their French through their surrender and withdrawal at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. We escalated our involvement in the late 1950s and 1960s because we thought we were holding the line against communism in Asia. In fact, the Vietnamese did have a relationship with the Chinese and USSR communists but the Viets were basically Socialists throughout that period and remain so today. They are a fiercely independent people, so the U.S. 's assumptions about them being communist were misplaced.

The big problem with u-turns is that teams don't often know if other teams have passed it or not and so can't use it as they might want to.  If it's meant to be a tactical part of the race that makes it difficult to use properly.

I've never seen the point of having them blind.  Incidentally Chuck and Wynona appeared to think that the board showed Joey and Meghan had u-turned them, so they read the sign wrong anyway.

I think the memory task could have been made more difficult, they only had about 5 words.  So I think the ease of tasks is still something that is stopping it from being classic, but definitely much better tasks and cast than the previous season.

The race seems to be about alliances as much as individual teams in recent seasons.  Personally I'm a bit tired of that and it feels a bit fake anyway like that's what the production are pushing at us.

I kind of expected a non-elimination leg after the rather quick exit of the injured team.  Glad taxis still haven't had too big an impact in this race.

starrynight,

Actually it's 9 Viet words, which is not close to 5 words in difficulty of memorization. I have no idea whether the accent marks, which are much trickier in the Vietnamese language than in French (the language I know that uses a lot of accent marks) played any part in the difficulty of the ROADBLOCK. If we have any RFF members who are fluent in the Vietnamese language perhaps they could comment on that.

Ok, still they only had to remember it phonetically to compare it to the cards didn't they?  And all of them did it within 2 attempts I think, so it can't have been that hard.  There have surely been more difficult memory tasks.  The way it was setup was ok, I just think it could have been more difficult.

starrynight,
How do you know that all teams completed that ROADBLOCK wihtrin 2 attempts. World Race Productions frequently does not show you the entire story, as the time limit of 41 minutes per telecast is too stringent for that to happen.

Well that's all we can go by I suppose.  If people had taken quite a while we would probably have seen more frustration.

You should definitely re-watch Season 3 and check out Ian's perspective on Vietnam. Also, how is showing the B-52 monument more disrespectful and offensive than showcasing the memorial of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings?
The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move

I dislike u-turns that are personal. Strategy is better and can have an effect on who continues.
You-tube's was strategic, as they could only guess who was behind. Pam and Winnie wasted their u-turn,
might they regret that later?

It is possible that Pam & Winnie have not wasted their U-Turn, because we still don't know if a Blind U-Turn wastes a team's Courtesy of Photo.
