Foreshadowing in The Amazing Race
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:01:49 PM »
This thread is about examples of foreshadowing from past seasons. Foreshadowing is when an event is shown or indicated beforehand. This could be something someone says that foreshadows an elimination or something minor like a task. Post examples of foreshadowing that you remember from the race.

someone coming out of the airport says something along the lines of "I'm really hungry". Moments later we find out the next task is an eating roadblock

Also. When the clue to the Meridian Gate reveals there will be a twist, Lauren says maybe the last team there will be eliminated. And that's what happened

Season 16, Episode 2:
Dan and Jordan are talking about how they really like the cowboys and they dont think they will last that long.
On the final leg, Dan and Jordan got into a major arguement with cowboys, and both teams were in the final 2.

Jet/Cord talk about how that could REALLY be their last leg on The Amazing Race , in the beginning of that Liecheinstein leg.

To take this a step further Joyce rembered that in S5 the good fortune fastforward was a head shaving... and she kept saying i know it i know it

Season 7 in Argentina, just before the meat RB, Patrick and Susan are driving towards the location and they comment on how hungry they are and Patrick says something like: " I hope we can get something to eat".

That someone was Dustin. Then when they found out they had to eat fish eyeballs, she looked at Kandice as was like "YOU!"  :snics:

Lyn (or Karlyn) say that 'I hope this is a non-elimination leg' in India so that David & Mary survive the leg, and it is!

Dan and Jordan were shown throwing a football in the intro.
The finsih line was a football stadium, where they won (sadly).

Brandy said something like "I demand a mechanical failure." because her team didn't get on the first flight. And then the first flight got delayed because of a mechanical problem.

Susan & Patrick foreshadow Rob & Amber's elimination when writing a letter to them. In their letter, there is a line something like "I hope when you're reading this letter, you're in the last place and soon to be eliminated."

Lauren: Now we're definitely in last.
Duke: We'll see.
Lauren: Ya, when we're eliminated.

Duke/Lauren were eliminated in that episode.

Carol and Brandy getting u-turned was foreshadowed all season in S16.

Jet and cord losing time because of not having an alliance was foreshadowed all season in S18 bythe constant talk of being lone rangers. (Bring em back again I say)
Jet and Cord are still the best!!! Bring them back!

At the Pit Stop in Parc Elisabet, Brussels, on TAR19, Amani & Marcus won a trip for 2 to Panama.  Later, they both have to travel to Panama in the penultimate leg of that season.

Often it is the editing that makes foreshadowing take place. For example, if you carefully watch the scene where Lena & Kristy first arrive at the infamous hay bales Roadblock, the background music playing is pretty ominous.

I've been able to predict many an event happening before it actually happens just by the way certain things are edited.

This season, the twins Doctors totally said they are a strong team and can win the race unless there is a water challenge I think. They got eliminated that leg. It was just strange to have that segment suddenly included. #foreshadow

The biggest foreshadow was during season 17 when the use of "first all-female team to win TAR [U.S.]" was presented in other scenes (notably Brook & Claire's Dhaka Pit Stop confessionals and Katie & Rachel's Elimination Station extras) and eventually led to the grand Nat & Kat and Brook & Claire 1st plus 2nd place finish.

Could be cosmic foreshadowing rather than editing foreshadowing, but go rewatch the first five minutes of Episode 3 in TAR 21, when Natalie/Nadiya, Trey/Lexi, Jaymes/James, Abbie/Ryan and Josh/Brent leave the Pit Start in 1/2/3/4/5 and hear their confessionals!

Leg 1 to 4 has been "we have the Express Pass and we are so advantageous right now for John and Jessica". :lol3:

Then they get eliminated with it.
