I think that the teams were headed from Chenonceau to Normandy.

The first tweet from France which mentions the Amazing Race filming was about 6 hours before the Chenonceau tweet, but her last apparent location was Mont Saint Michel.  Of course, our first tweeter may have been somewhere else, even Chenonceau.  But given the route so far, it seemed strange for the second tweet to be coming from several hours south of the last known spot of the first tweeter.  So, I think that first tweeter may have seen Phil doing his stand-ups.

There is a lovely chateau and hot-air balloon museum in Normandy about an hour and a half from Mont Saint Michel called Chateau Balleroy, and a notice on their website roughly translates to "Exceptional closing of chateau Friday, June 15 16h to 14h Monday, June 18. The museum balloons and park remain open." If I am reading twitter times correctly, the first tweet comes shortly after that closure.  Given the time frame of the closure, if they were headed there, I think it is a pit stop.  I doubt they will be there that long, but they may have booked some wiggle room.

Chances are it's closed for a completely unrelated event, but it sure looks like a place the race would use.

Thanks Jen!

I love the Balleroy idea, just not sure why they would need to be closed so long? ???

And it doesn't seem to work Chenonceau to Balleroy ...taking them further from CDG when we are expecting a departure soon.

But I could maybe see them driving AMS to Normandy, and Normandy to Loire....IF Balleroy has anything to do with us.

Clearly we have to closely look at the times.

The first poster was in Mont St Michel the day before.

There you go Chateau! That labyrinth looks just perfect! :hoot:

If there are going to be sightings at CDG, lets all be ready as they might begin at 2:30 AM ET/US, about two and a half hours from now.

Ibiza to Mallorca by ferry?? We need to look!

There is one possibility so far to do Majorca-Ibiza in a single day (mid-week) :

VIAJE DE IDA
MALLORCA >> IBIZA    20 de Junio de 2012

08h00    10h00
PALMA    IBIZA

VIAJE DE VUELTA
IBIZA >> MALLORCA    20 de Junio de 2012

20h00    22h00
IBIZA    PALMA

This is with http://www.balearia.com

This is the "light and fast" passenger ferry. Other ones take up to 4 hours to get from one island to the other.

As a one-time active aeronaut, I can offer some insights about the Chateau de Balleroy. http://www.chateau-balleroy.com/?lang=en The property was purchased by Forbes, Inc. during the lifetime of the late Malcolm Forbes, and was the base of much of his activity in both hot air and gas balloons. (He set some world ballooning records, btw) There are still major ballooning events held there, as I recall.

It has also been used for world gas and hot air ballooning championships. An annual event was held there for thirty years, but ended in 1999 after Malcolm's death.

TAR has had only one prior task involving ballooning (TAR Family Edition), but this would be the time of year to try for a task related to ballooning (even if it is just having teams go up on a tethered balloon up to an altitude to spot the location for the next route marker clue or task. Untethered hot air balloon "free' flights are flown in the two hours or so after dawn or the two hours or so before sunset as long as surface winds are at 10 mph or lower, and there are no thunderstorms in the vicinity. Tethered flights, which have a tether rope tied (or held down to the ground) can take place as long as the winds stay low enough or are calm.)

If the maze is on the Chateau property, then a task with both almost jumps out at you. And the fact that the Chateau is closed at exactly this time? Well, let's just say I don't believe in coincidences. :) It may not be, but I would not be surprised if it is.....

As a former Cultural Ambassador for Mexico at the Mexican Pavilion in EPCOT Center (WDW FL), many times I had to substitute for my friends in other pavilions when we were short of cast members, so I had to pretend to be from another country.

Many, many times I had to work overtime in the French Pavilion and had to "pghetend sat I vas Fghench" and to explain about these beautiful places which we have been talking about, and which years later I had the opportunity to visit.

The French Pavilion shows a short movie "Impressions de France"where the Chateau de Chenonceau, the hot air ballooning and Mont Saint Michel show up. Maybe WRP got inspired there.

Here's the movie http://youtu.be/dF3ADQndBGM

Chateau de Chenonceau comes up at 3'00
Balloons come up at 8'30
Mont Saint Michel comes up at 12'15

Enjoy!

HUGE :tu to everyone for all the hard work watcching  and tracking the past few weeks!

IF today should be the day, tweets may start once the planes are on the ground...in just a little while for some presumed destinations.

Be creative! Watch for keywords like airport names, "racing", cameras, filming, etc...not just "amazing race"!

May the tweets be with us!!

Dom El doesn't specify that most of Leg 8 takes place in Russia. He just shows that the Pit Start of Leg 8 will release in Russia.

Right..
Weird though..We don't have any clue of where did it took place. I'm thinking maybe it was a sandwiched destination ala Liechteinstein.

Makes more sense to me from a travel standpoint than coming into Newark and having to cross over to Brooklyn, less complicated.  Also thinking taxi drivers from JFK would be more familiar with the area.

BTW sorry Peach!

Not to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure it is St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Don't know about the CBS studios but the Apple store is closer to Central Park, more like 58th/59th Street and 5th.

St. Patrick's Cathedral does sound about right...
