LA area STARTing Line Challenge!!
« on: May 16, 2012, 12:09:13 PM »
Looks as though TPTB will never give up the ease and convenience of an LA area start.

I did quite like the Bridlewood Winery location in TAR 20. It also gave the teams the furthest self driving first leg we have had so far (right??)--just under three hours.

SO if we can now expect starts within 3 hours of LAX...let's find some other wonderful new spots!

Rules:

Scenic. Private. Epic ()

Must be within three hours driving time to LAX as per Google Maps driving directions.

Must be a NEW (not previously used) location.

Must be feasible...ie able to be rented/hired/closed as needed.

Brief description of the site and why it would make a good start line.

A picture and/or a map and a link to the site's website would be a wonderful addition!

And a special award if your pick is actually used for TAR 21!!  :wohoo:

I have a strong feeling TAR 21's starting line will be in the East Coast. Northeast to be exact.
Somewhere in the New England region, and they'll drive to Logan International Airport in Boston.

They already did that, lol.

I would like this thread to focus on locations near LA though, if anyone has any ideas??

Yeah, I know in TAR 17. I'm just hoping it would be other than LA this time.

If they ever listened to me and finally decided to start in Detroit, I have something interesting I found.

This is Meadowbrook Mansion, a beautiful Victorian Tudor style home with sprawling grounds. It has private entrances, and is completely closed off by some woods from the nearby Oakland University.

http://www.meadowbrookhall.org/

It is in the suburbs of Detroit, and is perfect for a starting line.

When looking up something for a future race of mine (planning), I noticed that on the calendar it says they are closed on Friday, June 8th for no apparent reason. They are usually only closed on Holidays. Maybe a wedding, and probably a long shot, but I think it's kind of worth looking into.

I have been there twice, and it's absolutely lovely.

P.S. Detroit has quite a few flghts to Europe and Asia, along with a unique direct flight to Amman, Jordan.

I'mnot too familiar with LA, but isn't the Hollywood sign private access only? Seems like that could work.

I've only been to Los Angeles once, but while I was there, I was looking at the Hollywood sign every chance I got, because I couldn't believe I was actually seeing it. The problem with the Hollywood sign is that it's a big tourist attraction. People who visit LA often take pictures of it, so if you put a big camera crew up there, it's not going to be a very well-kept secret.

I have to say Bridlewood Winery was my favourite Starting Line of all time!
The open green lawn, the trees, the lake, the vineyard with all the red and yellow balloons, it was simply.. amazing!

and it looked even more amazing in HD  :colors

If I were to pick a Starting Line (in LAX proximity), I would go with the gorgeous Aliso Creek Inn, Laguna Beach, CA!

http://www.alisocreekinn.com/

First of all, it is a golf course nestled in the coast hills, and it is green, lush, and would make a great Starting Line!
The inn can easily be closed off, as it has been for weddings, golf tournaments etc
There is a carpark which can fit more than 11 vehicles
Teams will make their way to the Starting Line in golf buggies  :wohoo:

and overall, the land is scenic, private + epic, which is EXACTLY what WRP want! (well at least what I want)

Below is a picture where I imagine the Starting Line to be, just take the chairs and the happily married couple out of the photo
