Dancing with the Stars Will Debut All-Star Season

What happens to a newly made ballroom dancer after the disco ball trophy?

Usually, the top Dancing with the Stars contestants return to obscurity – er, their glamorous lifestyles – and we never see them on the dance floor again. But now the show is looking to change that.

ABC's entertainment president Paul Lee confirmed to reporters that he "can't talk about the casting yet, but I'd love to see some of the fan favorites from the past seasons come back," EW.com reports.

"We've had many favorites over the 14 seasons that we've got. So, fingers crossed. We're out casting now, and I hope we come in with a really interesting cast of people who our audience is passionate about."

Since ABC has not selected former cast mates to return, tell us in the comments who you'd like to see back in the ballroom.

Dancing with the Stars All Star Cast To Be Announced

Mondays, 8:00 - 10:00 p.m., ET

ABC is set to announce its Dancing With the Stars All Star cast on the morning of Friday, July 27.
Lips are tight and rumors are few, but we’re still hearing names of a few celebrities who are expected to return to the ballroom: Melissa Rycroft (Season 8), Joey Fatone (Season 4) and Pamela Anderson (Season 10) are likely to return when the show resumes this fall. Gilles Marini name has not been heard but it is suspected he will return.

“Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” marks the first time prior contestants will return for another shot at the coveted mirror ball trophy for a very special All-Star season. Week to week these “Dancing with the Stars” alumni will once again compete to impress the judges and the audience at home in order to be the last pair standing in this live ballroom competition. And every week the couple with the lowest combined judges’ scores and viewer votes for their performance will be sent home, live, on “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars the Results Show.”

“Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” and “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars the Results Show” returns this season with new surprises and all the performance elements viewers have come to know and love, as well as musical performances from top recording artists. Also returning is “Macy’s Stars of Dance,” featuring some of the best choreographers and performers from different styles of dance who offer viewers performances that represent the peak of achievement in their genres. The show also welcomes the return of the “AT&T Spotlight Performance,” which features and celebrates people whose lives have been changed forever by dance.

Dancing with the Stars is hosted by Tom Bergeron (“America’s Funniest Home Videos”) and Brooke Burke-Charvet (“Dancing with the Stars” Season Seven Champion), the celebrities perform choreographed dance routines which will be judged by renowned Ballroom judge Len Goodman and dancer/choreographers Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.

'Dancing With the Stars' all-stars rumors: Melissa Rycroft, Joey Fatone, plus a twist

ABC is set to announce its Dancing With the Stars all-star cast on Friday morning so you know what that means: Time to check the rumor mill!

The industry whisperers have been quieter than usual this cycle, but we’re still hearing names of a few celebrities who are expected to return to the ballroom: Melissa Rycroft (Season 8), Joey Fatone (Season 4) and Pamela Anderson (Season 10) are likely to don sequins when the show resumes this fall.

Also, we hear Executive Producer Conrad Green is injecting a new twist to the casting process this year:

ABC will let fans pick a returning star. The network will announce the names of three former Dancing contestants (we’re hearing Carson Kressley is one of them) and let viewers vote on which celebrity gets the final spot on the show.

And what about Bristol Palin? With her Lifetime show bombing isn’t she ready to return to the reality TV big leagues? No intel there yet. Though we’re hearing that you shouldn’t expect another attention-getting Dancing alum, Stacy Keibler, to take a break from George Clooney to hit the dance floor anytime soon.
An ABC rep says the network does not comment on casting rumors. Check back on Friday for the full official list.
