« on: May 13, 2012, 05:33:03 PM »
Every time when i watch a final leg i think :

WHY GOD , WHY THEY STILL LET TAXIS BECOME PART OF THE FINAL LEG??????????????????????????????

Don't you guys think is unfair? Like , Gary and Mallory , Jaime and Cara , Jeremy and Sandy (i think) , Jill and Thomas ( i think) , Art and JJ...
They all could have won if wasn't their taxis!!!

On China Rush S2 Finale teams had to drive by themselves all the way in Shanghai. It worked well.

I don't think it's the taxi driver's fault why Jeremy & Sandy and Art & JJ lost.
Jeremy & Sandy went to the wrong dump. It's all their own fault.
And Art sucked in the sledding. They were given huge time advantage when Rachel & Dave made a mistake. And they still lost. The taxi driver only drives. It's you who should navigate if you are very eager to reach your destination.

I would love a final leg where all teams had to use local public transportation.

I prefer taxis or public tranpos. It adds more excitement & unpredictability to the finale. Self driving is too straight forward for me.

Imagine trying to keep teams under the speed limit in the final leg!

No way is self driving straightforward, teams have easily got lost in the past as has been shown many times in seasons where they drove more.  There should be more self driving in the race in general.  They have a cameraman with them, if they go over the speed limit or go through red lights they can get an on the spot time penalty.  And certainly no excuse not to use public transport more.

And the idea that taxis are always safe isn't that true anyway.  There have been some daredevil taxi drivers in the past.

What most fail to realize, The Amazing Race is first of all, a business/commerical venture to produce entertainment for television. As such, it must carry liability insurance for the people involved. The cost to provide insurance if teams were driving cars in the finale for a million dollars would be prohibitive to production. It is not about just running red lights and speeding....it about what it would cost if some brain dead racers actually killed an innocent bystander on the way to the one million............it aint never gonna happen........unless the finale is in the middle of the Sahara or some place similiar......

Yeah , but taxi catch is LUCK . You may pick a good taxi driver or a really bad one.

Luck should not be part of the final leg...

Whether you like it or not.......LUCK is always a part of the race........up until a team steps upon the mat and Phil declares them the winner........all kinds of luck. It has always been a part of the race. TAR1 was one by taxi luck in the finale.

What do you think of this: all teams have to run on foot in the final leg.

They could do a leg with that. There's a city in Nepal, close to Kathmandu, which does not allow any kind of vehicle. So walking is the only way to go around.

Only problem is I doubt a finale will be held in Nepal.

The finale of TAR2 had a LOT of running. Between searching for clues in San Francisco and the epic run to the finish line, Chris & Alex and Tara & Wil had a lot of long footraces all throughout that finale.

Declive,

I had said it before, but I cannot remember on which thread and when: The reason that self-driving is not allowed in the design of the finale by World Race Productions is simply safety. Unlike situations in various Amazing Race Australias and other Asian Amazing Races, the finish of a U.S. Amazing Race almost always (only exceptions AR7, AR8, AR18) involved at least 4 time zones (and typically many more) and 3,000 miles (and typically much longer). The fatigue factor from the race means that teams would be at risk self-driving.

Bad sometimes meaning crooked.  I don't see why they don't check which taxi drivers they use beforehand as well, to make sure they aren't just there to swindle money out of racers.

I'm sure some of them go roadrage on some of the taxi drivers and want to punch their face in, in fact I think someone said that once.  It will happen if it hasn't happened yet.  Absolutely no excuse to give racers useless or just plain crooked taxi drivers, and there is no way that should be loved in the race.

But that's the Race! It's LUCK. The final leg is just like any other leg.

There's enough luck in the race already.  Looking at season 16 I see we have another taxi driver depriving us of one of the teams making it a close finish.  Ultimately most of the audience want to see it close at the end and taxi drivers have helped prevent that.  They should use public transport in the final leg for longer distances.

I would like to see more public transportation over taxis or self driving. You still have luck based on schedules and timing yet you do not leave the luck in the hands of a taxi driver.
