Like TAR 5 in Tanzania as to legs 7 and 8 this season, this next leg is within 40 miles of the area in southwest India for leg 7 of TAR 4.

The viewpoint in the first few promo frames is from the area Google labels "Chinese fishing net"; I don't know if it's important or just B-roll stuff.

I don't know how to bring posts from different threads to other threads, I tried my best ^

Anyway, these caps from the SEASON PREVIEW (http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,26886.0.html) , have been identified as KERALA, INDIA by Slowhatch  :)
The first two caps look like RALPH doing an RB (which is coir or something, identified by ZouLy

However we are close to sure that Leg 9 RB is the Bollywood dance thing

These caps from the Season Preview must be LEG 10, so my point is Ralph and Vanessa are SAFE THROUGH LEG 9

that was my contribution for this thread lol

p.s. we also know in advance the RB for Leg 10, can Peach put these caps in for the future Leg 10 thread?? thank you!! :)

Great job on noticing that supah!

I will venture a guess that this episode will not be a NEL. Final five NEL's are much less common than final four NEL's.

We haven't even thought about a Double-Roadblock leg? I think that could also be an option?

This panoramio shows how the location of the nets relates to the market. There is a fish/produce market just next door...

I think 11 , 12 , and 13 are from Cochin Harbor , which is a pretty easy assumption to make, given the location lol. Hey, I like finding the easy one's , my brain still hurt's from searching images for the last leg. Maybe the dancing is on the ground's of The Hill Palace Museum , which was the home of the royal family at one time. I will look for some images to compare. The Hill Palace Museum would be an excellent place for a pitstop also. I can imagine the teams running up these steps to meet Phil.

Am I wrong or in caps 20,21,22, we can see another team going to do (or doing) the RB in the background?

Super excited to see the race visit Kochi! :hrt: Here's a few observations I had about the preview:

The sign behind Rachel most likely says 'Mombasa'. This will be as teams are leaving Africa.

When the camera flashes past a row of rickshaws, I believe this location to be at this junction:
http://maps.google.com/?ll=10.000893,76.300773&spn=0.002805,0.005284&t=h&z=18

Googling of the 'Property Show' archway reveals that there was a 'Credai' property show taking place at the stadium just off that map in December. Also, a sign for 'Kerala Medicals' is visible, which is apparently also located at this junction. This would fit in with teams travelling from Cochin International, through the city of Ernakulam and to the ferry to either Fort Kochi or Vypin.

The shots of Bopper dancing are probably not at the Hill Palace, as we can see some water in the background. The Hill Palace is nowhere near any water. Also probably not the Parade Grounds, as the houses nearby aren't quite as grand as the ones in the background.

Also, one interesting point. Whoever refers to 'Bollywood' is actually in the wrong part of India.. That refers to Hindi cinema focussed more in the north. Keralan cinema is more commonly referred to as 'Mollywood'!

I hope Mopper doesn't have to quit :( It looks like teams that choose a female to do the RB will be successful. It is white Rachel's turn as well as Vanessa's but not red Rachel's turn.

Turns are meaningless. Teams have to manage their ROADBLOCK counts carefully, but that does not mean having to alternate who does each ROADBLOCK. A much more appropriate strategy is for teams to use the individual expected to be best suited to a ROADBLOCK. The information provided when decisions have to be made on who will do the ROADBLOCK is limited, so teams much just muddle through when using this strategy. As a team nears the end of the race, and we are getting close to there, evening out ROADBLOCKS becomes vital.

I think he means that in the case of those two teams, they alternate it (to their peril perhaps; Vanessa got to confront her fears of water, heights and math).

Also, I'm pretty sure there's a brunette guy wearing the same robe as Mark on the stage in cap 20-22.

A lot of teams use taking turns as a method to keep them on track. But if they use apskip's logic method then I doubt Dave and Ralph consider themselves the dancing type so you get the same result. Leaving the M/M teams to struggle and border patrol is obviously stronger.

Plus the press info is telling us that one team has to decide between their own health and remaining in. It's possible that they have to quit a task.

I have been doing some digging and have narrowed down the location in Kochi (Cochin) for caps 15-18 somewhat. Looking in the background on the right, one business appears to be "Kerala Medicals". I searched and found that Kerala Medicals is a pharmacy located at "Pavakulath Building, KK Road, Kaloor, Ernakulam, Kerala 682017 Near the HDFC Bank". That's not something I can plug in to Google Earth and go anywhere. However, further digging led me to believe that KK Road was Kaloor Kadavanthara Road. This is a fairly long road, so it wasn't much help. Then I looked up HDFC banks and there is a Kadavanthara branch at the south end of Kaloor Kadavanthara Road where it intersects with Sahodaran Ayyapan Road. It was a quick search, so other branches are possibly the right one.

Then I noticed on the right side of the caps a sign marked "Police Aid". I didn't have much time left to pursue this and did a quick search for Kochi Police Stations or Police Aid Stations. There is a police station at the far north end of Kaloor Kadavanthara Road where it intersects with Old NH (Old National Highway ?) also known as NH 47A, but I suspect that's not the same as a Police Aid station. I couldn't find addresses for Police Aid stations. Google Earth has a limited amount of pictures around Kochi, but from what I could see the south end of Kaloor Kadavanthara Road looked more like it matched up with caps 15-18.

I don't know if the location of the caps 15-18 is important or just atmospheric street scenes, but it appears to me to be on the mainland portion of Kochi at the south end of Kaloor Kadavanthara Road. I'll leave it as an exercise for the rest of you to pin it down any closer than that.

I'd say that EACH TEAM takes a different-coloured scarf and takes dancing partners wearing that scarf. Would that be possible? I can easily see that.

In Cap 23 we see blue team going up to the stage so as to perform the task?

We can also see that Bopper is down the stage until the moment he goes up there and fails.

It's focusing on Mark's struggles a lot. There don't seem to be any other teams there with them. :(

Yes.  And in the caps 20/22 you can see a man with dark hair (¿Ralph, Art/J.J,?) perfoming with the dancers in blue clothes.

Also, the coir factory scene is definitely in Alleppey (or Allapuzha) which is south of Cochin. Alleppey is the center of all coir making. TAR had been to Alleppey some time back , don't remember which season.

with respect to Coir, if you happen to purchase a Coir mat for your home from Walmart or Target  and it says "Made in India",  i'm 100% sure that it came from Alleppey, Kerala.

You are right. It was the famous bull pulling plow with human hanging for a measured distance in AR4 ep. 7 in Alleppey. That was as close as the US Amazing Race got to Kochi (Cochin) previously.

I don't really know who is who, :lol3:

In Cap 24, we see him on stage, but not in the rest of images.

Ralph was seen in the season preview doing what looks like a roadblock at the coir factory. jacobsk68 confirmed that it is in another city so it is probably next time.

It's another city but not far from cochin, most probably 20-25 miles south of cochin. Not sure if there's enough for 5 remaining teams to spend 2 episodes in one small geographical area. But i may be wrong.

The closest major city to Cochin is Alappuzhy (formerly known as Alleppey from AR4), population 179,000. It is know for its coir fiber, a natural fibre extracted from the husk of coconut and used in products such as floor mats, doormats, brushes and mattresses.

The next major city on the road to Mandalay (strike that, my little joke; it's really to Thiruvananthapuram) is Kollam, population 350,000.

I have no idea if either of these was used in leg 10. I believe that Thiruvananthapuram is the most logical place for that leg and both Alappuzhy and Kollam are on the way.

It could only be IF this is a double RB leg.  OR we don't see the other team member also doing coir.... (which seems unlikely)

But since the most likely place for doing that is another town, I am inclined to think next leg.

Can someone refresh my memory on double RB legs?? Is there also a Detour...or none?? I forget.  :-[

There has never been a Detour with a double roadblock leg. But we haven't seen any sign of a Detour yet in this leg either. If the press photos come out they will probably tell us the answer.

haha they are out already.

Detour A is cricket! It is done by Art and JJ. They must "hit one boundry"

Detour B is driving a auto rickshaw with passengers and is done by Dave and Rachel

The roadblock is done by JJ, both Rachels and Mark

This helps confirm that Ranessa makes until next time whether it is a NEL or not. If a team is eliminated it has to be Kentucky.

Recall Amazing Race Asia 3 in Pune (Nehru Cricket Stadium) for a cricket-oriented ROADBLOCK. One individual had to hit the cricket ball to the boundary (but not over it) to complete the task and get their next clue. The official regulations call for cricket field boundaries to be not more than 90 yards (82.29 meters) from center of the field. The boundary can be a fence, a rope or some marker.

I did some research on the things on the wall of the Coir Factory, where you see them running in images 55,56,57 where Vanessa falls down. the guy's photo on the wall, is an election poster and there's also another poster below it which says "CPI". In kerala the last election was held back in April 2011 and i checked the candidates for that election in and around cochin and alleppey. I think that face matches with the candidate from "Cherthala"  , which is a  town  between Cochin and Alleppey.(his photo can be seen here - http://www.blogger.com/profile/01787861252586860404). He belongs to the "CPI" party which matches with the other poster. (Coir factory employees are big supporters of CPI, which is a communist political party).
So i think the coir factory they are showing is almost  half way between Cochin and Alleppey(Alapuzha) and puts that closer to Cochin and not in Alleppey.

that's  a local city Bus they are on. It has tarp rolled up (usually rolled down during those heavy monsoon rains) on both sides.

There is a new clip up on cbs.com. It shows Mark doing his first attempt on the roadblock but he already seems worn out by the practicing.

All other teams are shown there at this point except for Dave and Rachel. The other Rachel has apparently already made several attempts because she is over with Brendon crying about how she can't do it. Vanessa is saying "I don't have it in me" and you also get the impression that JJ has already tried more than once as well.

Since these teams have already been trying and Davechel may already be done by the time Mark makes his first try, it doesn't look good for Mopper. :(

The opening shot of the clip shows the blue, red, purple, and green teams standing in the field. These belong to JJ, Mark, Vanessa, and Rachel(O' Reilly) respectively. What color was the other Rachel using?

She seems to be with the yellow team which is not seen on the field at this time. They are either already done or have not arrived. It's probably the former because all the other teams have already been there for a while.

That is the dancers in blue , which is Art/JJ team.

Interesting detail about 29 seconds into the latest promo.
There is a team that appears to be arriving at the clue box just as Mark is starting his first attempt at the dance routine.
Can't make out who it is though.

"Gender disparities cause one Team to lose faith when a challenge seems insurmountable" , i'm guessing this is Art and JJ , and we know from the preview that "emotions run high as a Racer must weigh their own well-being against their future in the game" is Mark. Maybe V/R beat Art /jj this leg.

CBS Press express photo of Dave/Rachel arriving at RB.  From others, they chose Yellow/Gold, so they have arrived before Blue (JJ) , Purple (Vanessa) and Red (Mark) at least.

Nice find! That would (probably) make the cricket pitch next door at Maharaja college; and the Indian Coffee House has many branches, including some very close to the Detour.

I found the Roadblock song!
Type in 'the music of khel' into iTunes  and you should find a song called 'Welcome to Dreamland'
I can't find a YouTube clip to post here  :(
