I am saying that is unlikely, Walkingpneumonia. My rationale is that the distance is 17 miles each way, times 2 is 34 miles. That is a lot of time in transport before even considering the task itself.
Depends on the order of tasks, how teams get to Germany and if there really is a speedbump. We know that the teams have a gnome at Neuschwanstein Castle.
So what if they:
fly to Munich (or drive to Oberammergau from Turin)
some general task where they get the gnome
drive to Oberammergau for the speedbump, detour (curl the gnome, or decorate the gingerbread house)
drive to Unterammergau for the roadblock (trim the beard)
drive to Neuschwanstein Castle for the pitstop

From there to here, and here to there,
funny things are everywhere

I'm pretty sure curling the gnome is the roadblock because only JJ was seen doing it, and trim the beard is the detour because both Joey and Danny are doing it.

Perhaps the gnome curling is the roadblock, but there are 2 gnomes set up to curl - one for each team member?
You're correct about the trim the beard thing - its definitely not a roadblock - so its either the other half of a detour or a general task.

Is it possible that the teams take an overnight train from Turin to Fussen, Germany?  I was checking out train travel, and you can prebook that trip.  This would also act as an equalizer for the teams.

I see that it may have been identified that the Ice Rink is in Fussen (Roadblock - Curling, where teams get their traveling gnome).

Hohenschwangau Castle, Schwangau, Germany is about 12 minutes away, so is the castle a Route Info versus a pitstop?  And this is where the snowy labyrinth occurs (walking up to the castle)?

Gemeinde Unterammergau and Oberammergau is a half hour from the castle, as we see teams driving with the gnome.

And the pitstop is near those towns?

Just a thought, since driving from Turin, Italy to Fussen is a 6 hour drive and has multiple TOLLS.

I'm wondering if we can lean away from teams flying because, we know teams were seen in Rome at the airport, but the only live sighting we had about Germany, as I recall was because production had staffers flying from South America to Germany.

This is where self-driving would make sense (or trains) because teams would be less likely to be spotted, and we're now at a point in the Race when we had nothing that was spoiled during filming. Just a thought.

Working theory, feel free to flame away:
The lean-tos/huts for the gingerbread task are part of the campingplatz at Unterammergau and the beard task is right next door at the school. (viewpoint)

Oh Slowhatch!!

I was just coming to say that I think we may need to backtrack....

WE KNOW we go to Untergammerau. 100% terrain match. PLUS the coat of arms match.

I am not 100% sure we KNOW yet we go to Oberammergau.... ???

The Hansel and Gretl House does not seem to have a side yard that I can find so that may NOT be our witchy task.

And remember the Detours should be VERY close to each other.

And a speedbump should also be close by.

The picnic tables (if that's what they are) have a healthy layer of snow on them, so probably not temporary. That's the best match I've found so far; if somebody finds something better, I'm game.

I like the roof shapes for sure.

But in the screencap we see two houses, a couple of hedges, and a possible red mailbox on the OTHER side of a road, and a streetlamp...can you show me where that all is on the aerial view? I am LOUSY at interpreting aerial shots.

I don't know...is that Schulstrasse, Ammergauer, or neither? Are those private houses or public/commercial? I haven't found any decent photos of the area. Another promo would be nice.

:welcome: to RFF cougarspy! Glad to have you here!!

Just to clarify though, the Fussen ice rink I cannot match to the screencap....

And I think we are working on Neuschwanstein Castle not Hohenschwangau Castle?

But I think you hve nailed the big question:

Quote
so is the castle a Route Info versus a pitstop?  And this is where the snowy labyrinth occurs (walking up to the castle)?

We know teams "Search Ludwig's quarters"...I initially assumed this was the initial RI.

But since we see teams already carrying the gnome towards the castle...is it a search the quarters for PHIL task instead?? ???

Where do teams GET their gnome...that will be a help?

Do they get the gnome at the curling task...or somewhere else??

Is it possible that the clue they get at the pit start is the gnome. On second thought, they typically have to search for the gnome, but its a thought...

It seems like the roadblock could be at the castle because there is not one accounted for yet.

Curling could be one team member at a time, so you wouldn't see both team members curling in the same shot, and don't forget the promo editors have been really good this season taking clips out of their actual context.

In that cap with Brendon, I do notice the snow covered fences, and I suspect the roads or sidewalks are icy that day, and folks who have not lived in snow might have that problem (slipping on icy covered areas.)

He's doing the roadblock. The roadblock is to slide down a slope with your butt. Holding the Travelocity Gnome is optional.  :lol3: :lol3: :lol3:

I see the Curling possibly as a Active Route Info?

AND! Brendon falling? Definitely not a task, IMHO. It's just that he is as clumsy as me and he just fell by a "ramp" while holding the gnome.

BTW. If we see the curling as an Active Route Info, is the Gnome ANOTHER Route Info task??
