Thanks for making a great list, theschnauzers!

Wow I just realised that Dave and Connor are the only winning team to have never left the top 4 in a season.

The other two teams to accomplish the feat are Eric-Jeremy season 9 and Art-JJ season 20, both of whom finished the final leg in second place. (And Eric-Jeremy still retain the best overall average placement of all time.)

toanglobal, I'll be posting the primary list in the other thread within a few days. That one takes longer because of the fact that counting teams with multiple appearances separately, its over 300 teams now, and I have to make sure I properly color code first place, last place and final three teams.....something that can be a problem with the list now being that long. :)

And Kris & Jon too, I believe. (But only if you discount the 5th place they got in the double length leg)

For reasons of standardization, I do count double length legs as separate legs; that's the only way to have a consistent way of comparison.

I apologize for not doing this weekly during the TAR 25 season, I will be adding that this weekend, and will list the teams in the thread by placement average, and in the OP in the order of finish, as normal.

Sorry for the delay in getting season 26 added. I had a major publishing project to complete that I didn't know about until mid-December, and as it was, it was a week later than normal going out (on Sunday), as it was a new edition (with 4000 or so pages in print) and everything had to be reorganized and scrutinized.

With things being quieter, I will be resuming the weekly leaderboard and weekly trends postings (in the other thread) this weekend.

This season's Racers, please look at the first post for a complete explanation of the ranking system I use to compare all Races and teams in a complete ranking system. It isn't the end-all or be-all of which teams are better, but it is an objective measurement for a starting point for those discussions. This does offer some interesting insights which is apparent from the posts in this thread, when I transferred this ranking list from the now-dearly departed TWoP forums which are no more and no longer online.

The trending measurement is not something I do every season, but usually do when it is apparent that the season is quite competitive, and help shows how teams are faring during the season. When I'm feeling particularly brave, towards the end of an season I will project the range of possible final placement averages for the then remaining teams. Just so you know.

Only 12 of the 26 seasons had the best average team winning it all.

Here's the first trends analysis for the 8 remaining teams in season 27:

Remember, the oldest leg is to the right of the three legs shown, and that leg will drop off with a new leg added as the first column of entries at each week's update. The characterization is a rough description of what it would look like on a graph going oldest leg to latest leg (yes, the opposite of the way the colums are shown.)

Code: [Select]
Team Avg Placement Avg Placement Avg Placement TREND
Leg 3 Leg 2 Leg 1

Tanner & Josh 1.3333 1.5000 1.0000 Steady
Justin & Diana 4.0000 5.0000 9.0000 Rising
Denise & James Earl 4.3333 3.5000 4.0000 Slowly Falling

Obviouslt, with a KOR, it won't be possible to update the trends analysis until next weekend with leg 5. I'll expand the trendline to legs 2-5 in reflect this.

Here's the trends analysis after legs 4 and 5. Because of the KOR pit stop, I'm going to list all five legs, but the shorthand summary is primary from legs 3-5, and some guidance from leg 2 if the trend is otherwise uncertain, i.e. Tanner-Josh this time. Next week, I'll go back to the current and two prior legs as normal.

Trends analysis of remaining teams after leg 10:

The trend noted last week continues again with the four remaining teams. I don't believe I've ever noted a similar trend for all remaining teams holding the same relative order of placement for each of five legs in any previous season.

Trends analysis of remaining teams after leg 11:

Tbe trend that I've noticed for the last five legs continued in leg 11, and regardless of how leg 12 ends at the finish mat, the relative placement average for these three teams will not change, I can't recall in 26 prior seasons ever seeing this sort of stability among remaining teams, it is really bizarre, and makes a season more boring in some respect than it otherwise would have been. Can't explain why, although the locations and tasks this season were wonderful, but it could have been the linear nature of the legs.

Anyhow:
Code: [Select]
Team Avg Placement Avg Placement Avg Placement Avg Placement TREND
Leg 11 Leg 10 Leg 9 Leg 8

Justin & Diana 2.0909 2.0000 2.1111 2.2500 Steady

Logan & Chris 4.4545 4.8000 4.8888 5.1250 Slowly Rising
I will post the final leaderboard for the season next weekend in the Opening Thread. The trends will return after TAR 28 premieres in February.
