It is almost a certainty that on 4/8 TAR will be delayed some significant time. The biggest tournament in golf ends that day, and there is a big ceremony for the winner at the end that is televised on CBS. It will definitely run late.

And which month is the second Sweeps month? That delay means 2 episodes in Sweeps versus 1 otherwise.

February and May are always "sweeps" months for the broadcast nets and Nielsen.

Just a reminder that CBS does have that PGA Golf Tournament in the afternoon (scheduled for 3:00pm-6:30pm ET) with a half hour for local news before 60 Minutes on the east coast. Of course, CBS doesn't send out an heads up Eye-lert until the Friday before any possible sports overrun, so if one does go out, I'll get a post up tomorrow.

I wouldn't worry too much about any delays due to the PGA tour (save for the Masters, of course).  Typically what happens is that if golf runs past 7 o'clock on CBS, it'll move to the Golf Channel.  JMO, but in the event that Tiger Woods is about to successfully win for the first time in quite a while, CBS could keep running the tour which would push back TAR (assuming Tiger doesn't get his first win in 3 years at Augusta).

Barring that, the only delay this season will be on Easter (as basketball restructured its programming to prevent any delays, as mentioned).  And of course, there won't be any TAR at all on Palm Sunday.

revengefullcreative,

I don't remember golf delays the way you do. If a golf tournament is in extra holes, then they show them until completion. They do not go to the Golf Channel. Remember that such delays may bother Amazing Race fans, but they boost CBS ratings for that Sunday night. And it is Sweeps month!

We may or may not get a test of which theory prevails tonight.

Well, if there was an exception, tonight would be that night. Lefty as part of a three-way playoff (where he could go back-to-back), there might be a minor delay (big name, big stakes, etc).

It's a sudden death golf playoff at the Riviera which will be starting around 645pm EST. Will it be over by 7pm? Not likely. Will it go to The Golf channel at 7pm? Not likely.

i'm surprised that CBS didn't send out an Eye-lert on Friday afternoon as CBS usually does when there's a chance of a run-over.

At the moment we're at least due for a half-hour no matter what.

Make that 21 minutes. If I hear from CBS, I'll post it.

I guess they were supposed to switch, but I can't blame CBS for not switching tonight!  Looks like we'll have to assume nothing going forward.  BTW, 8:21 start for TAR!

60 Minutes is starting right now at 721 pm.

The golf sudden death just ended. No switch was made to the Golf Channel.

Oh, and Bill Haas won the playoff.

Just a head's up!

The US will be converting to Daylight Savings Time NEXT weekend the 11th.

SO for you internationals, what WAS 8PM will NOW be 9 PM, so plan to check in for TAR an hour earlier than usual!!

Ugh. Looks like CMA 4/1. Anything else??

That seems right, because they like the spring season to end on Mother's Day now and it would end on May 6th without that break.

That is no longer necessarily the case, Survivor got stuck with it last time.

I'm not sure if the latter is in reply to the former, but Mother's Day actually failed to sneak down to that middle part of May. May 8th seems early for Mom's Day, but it is still the second Sunday in May (the earliest Mother's Day can be).  However if CBS stays put with everything, emulating a 52-week formula, it would end on May 6 (even with the ACM pre-emption).  Sadly, what had TAR18 end on May 8 last year was a two-hour episode.  There's no big purpose for a 2-hour finale for a regular season, so Mom's Day for an AR finale seems like a better bet.

OTOH, maybe not, because I hardly doubt Mark Burnett would want two of his shows ending on the same Sunday (would be May 20 for Survivor, and Apprentice, as sweeps end May 23 and no one's putting a finale on the Sunday before Memorial Day).

Daylight savings time!  Yay!  Fortunately technology recognizes the change (unlike my VCR back in the day, pre DVR).  Now all we need is for something to recognize Hoops and Golf delays!

Three comments:
First, assuming the CMAs pre-empt TAR, and that 12 legs means 12 episodes, then the finale would be May 13th. The CMAs will be an the halfway mark (six legs) so I tend to think May 13th is more likely. Survivor has been on the Sunday before Memorial Day weekend, and it'll be close to or the last day of sweeps, and that finale has done well in the past.

Second, Canada also goes onto DST in lockstep with the U.S.

Third, next Sunday is selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament. CBS is airing this show which is done live. Some tournaments may not be totally completed It looks as if CBS may be airing the finals of the Big 10 tournament before the selection show, also live.

In other words, there's an off-chance of things running over because there is no local programming, apparently, for the CBS east coast feed -- there will be at least two conferences airing tournament championship games on CBS that afternoon.

Here's the deal on CBS:

Ohio State vs. Michigan State  has just  started on schedule.
If it does not go to overtime, the the NCAA Selection Show is on from 6 to 7pm and 60 Minutes from 7 to 8pm.

Apskip, I pretty much forgot that OT could push everything back.  However, 5:09 local time + 4 minutes in regulation, and I think we're safe.  CBS would want to give the folks at home some type of "pregame" prior to the Selection Show, as opposed to just jumping into the 68-team announcement.

Theschnauzers very good points regarding TAR's end date.  Really, if you factor out a Survivor/Apprentice conflict, the only way TAR is ending on 5/6 is if it's a 2-hour finale (or there's a 2 hour show prior to that).  Otherwise, the Apprentice finale would have to end on May 13th opposite TAR, because while Survivor would be fitting during the Sunday before Memorial Day Weekend, I can't see Mark Burnett having two of his shows air against each other (on 5/20).  Another OOLF idea would be TAR ending right before Survivor on the same night.
