Thanks for the welcome, and the perspective!  I stand in awe of all of you.

Actually, according to the interviews, the racers kind of agreed with apskip - there were other, and earlier, flights, and if they'd known the penalty was only 30 minutes for not taking the mandatory flight, they might all have taken an earlier flight; depending on how fast they got to the airport, they probably sat there for hours until the mandatory flight left.  Sounds like they were led to believe the penalty for not taking that flight would be much worse.

And that's probably enough about that...

Welcome lovetherace...........

Production has found, that for some countries, that it is easier to enter and exit at the same place. What with all the equipemnt they carry around. China now have made that list and that could explain why teams along with their cameramen/soundmen were required to take the flight they did. There is nothing concete on this again, just some thoughts.

There were some fights with tight connections, that some teams might have actually reached Lijiang in the late afternoon, early eveing.......but I still think the choke point would have been that charter bus they all were supposed to catch the next morning...so if any teams had arrived that early......they would probably had to just wait till the morning anyway.

But I agree with you, the other teams sure did seem to have a burr under their saddles about how that all transpired.

I'm going to put my two cents in on this since no one, I believe, mentioned my thoughts on the 30 minute penalty the Goths received for not taking the mandatory flight.

I think the penalty is in line with teams who received penalites over the seasons for taking a cab instead of walking or any other clue where they tell you to travel by a specific mode of transportation including your feet and you do something else.   It would have been more controversial, and out of line with past practice,  if the penalty would have been more than 30 minutes in my opinion .

I totally agree Shelact, that is the standard transportation penalty!

And :welcome: to RFF!

Maybe Jet did add instead of subtract? That's what it looks like here.

A couple of oddities:
  • The Balzers Post Office/Route 12 stop is at 20 Rietstrasse, nearly at the foot of Gutenberg. After Jet heads back from the finish line, we see him approach the bus stop from the west (at nearly the same spot of the Justin/Jen map handover).
  • The distance from the bus stop back to the main route is over 400 yards. It's very unlikely that FT saw other racers and decided to turn. And he didn't follow the map; Jen can be seen (but not heard) giving him directions to the finish line. So either he made another wrong turn and got extremely lucky, or there's something else going on that wasn't broadcast.

Great shot connayyy!  That would be awful to think that could have been it....ouch.

Slowhatch...so FT couldn't see the racers from the route he was supposed to be on? hmmm.

Anyone know how to watch the newest interviews on CBS? I can't watch it... :( I want to hear Jet & Cord said about their farewell...  :'(
You did very well, Jet & Cord... You still smiled and showed respect to each other as a team, even when you were eliminated...
So... now go Gary & Mallory!! Win for the cowboys!!

Where is this clip from? Ep 9? about what time? I will look for some other caps around it.

I don't remember them with those clothes on. Anyone??

Foliage makes me think RIO.

^I just checked all the insider video and it's definitely not from any pit stop so far.
But I can't find from what episode is this cap so that we listen at what they are saying. Like Peach said the plants behind them do look  tropical and they are wearing lighter clothes.

Foliage makes me think RIO.

Certainly is possible for Rio.......or Florida Keys. I would think any confessionals in Florida would occur in daylight. So I think Rio or Niteroi. Dec 11 is just ten days before the Rio Summer Solstice. They look a little overdressed, but part of Rio, Rio Sul, get a good breeze off the ocean and they could be dressing for that.

Rio Sul is the general name for the beach neighborhoods of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Sao Conrado (site of TAR2 Detours) and Barra de Tijuica. The greatest concentrations/numbers of tourist hotels are in Copacabana.

I think this is from the China-India episode 6 maybe... just check the background from here (Jet & Cord), they looked almost the same, but it's morning.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqI1F383MSE

Or the background from Ron & Christina, Zev & Justin (also episode 6)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odvE-yP38JI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0Q-m6vzeLA

Plus, check out this scene, from episode 6, when Kisha & Jen were going to India...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS2VTc3o1ag
Kisha was wearing the same outfit, and tied her hair back like in the picture too, but what about Jen? I wondered...

Hope this helped!  :)

Around 5:00, it's the interview.... BUT I think the intrerview took place on episode 6 (the outfit & background), not episode 9...

The general consensus is; Gary already knew the right number and Herb just confirmed it.  Gary probably would have shared the number with Jet.  The other teams didn't use the U-Turn because they knew multiple teams were behind them.  The Trotters used it because they knew the Cowboys had the ability to beat them, they were too close for comfort.  The Cowboys were good and yes everyone was aware of it but I don't think anyone, maybe with the exception of KENT and Vxysin, had it out for them.

Gary did make a comment about this issue on his twitter:

Physics alone is not enough.

Those who forget history are sure to repeat it.
