There is an annual mud-slinging festival in Yotsukaido (Chiba prefecture), although I suppose an "amazing" mud field could be hired anywhere.

Believe it or not, it's not the first time a reality show has used Platform 1 at Central Station. The fourth season of Australia's version of The Mole used it in their first challenge.

You know, I'm happy they're actually bothering to use real Japanese culture this season. It makes a nice change from driving taxis and riding rollercoasters and being on fake gameshows.

But I'm still holding out for the day they have a Detour choice between Nintendo videogames and Nikoli logic puzzles.

There's not a lot of things to match in the misogi caps. Didn't the blurb mention Fuji? The nearest thing I could find is the Shiraito falls, but that's just spec.

My spec:
The Detour is either dancing or mud slinging. The Roadblock the the arrow task. The cold water task is a Route Info task.
Of course the dancing could be the RB and the arrow is part of that somehow.

BTW, good job Slowhatch!

What dancing are you talking about? If you are referring to caps 4, 5 I think that's more like preparation movements for the horseback archery.
As for the Detour for me it could be something like Clean or Dirty, as in cleanse your soul in the cold water or get dirty in the mud.

This season, the multi Emmy Award-winning series will be broadcast in HD for the first time as the Racers travel 40,000 miles through five continents and 23 cities.  Teams begin their journey around the globe from the second-windiest place on the planet, and travel to such picturesque locations as Sydney, Australia, where they find themselves swimming with sharks; Liechtenstein, where they must measure the length of the entire country while riding a motorized bicycle; and Tokyo, Japan, where they must endure the freezing waters from Mount Fuji as part of a spiritual ritual.

I was thinking a Clean or Dirty Detour. Not sure this distance between Yotsukaido (Chiba prefecture) (Dirty) and the freezing waters from Mount Fuji (Clean).  Time for some map work.

I just thought that TPTB wanted all teams to face the frigid waters.  :duno:

That festival is held in early February but interestingly looked like it was only open to men. Also odd is that it just happened a few days ago.

;)  Going out on a limb here, and saying it may be the Ogasawara-Ryu, one of the oldest schools of Japanese-style archery.

How could it be a Roadblock when both FT&BE are shown doing it?

Great work TarJunkie! that one is a lot closer to everything else than Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu.
NVM, we have a sighting in Kamakura.
To answer gator27, I don't see any way for the water to be a detour choice it is way too far from Yotsukaido.

 I'm on a roll now.  Appears to me that the "vehicularly challenged" redheads are at an overpass of the Metropolitan Expressway No. 3 (Shibuya Route) in the Shibuya district of Tokyo.

why they are in Shibuya is anyones guess.

Great work! They are on their way from the airport to either Kamakura or the Fuji region. This leg will include a lot of car time if they self drive to each destination.

It makes me think they are going to the misogi first. Below (A) is the airport, (B) is the Fuji area and orange is the Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu where the yabusame is done. The driving route from Haneda to Fuji takes them right through Shibuya (yellow marker).
I'm starting to think they don't go to Yotsukaido.

Both CX524 and QF21 landed at Narita, not Haneda.  I dont know if that will change your spec or not.

QF21 landed at Narita, not Haneda. Same with the flight from Hong Kong. I dont know if that will change your spec or not.

Thanks for the reminder, it actually does. :duh: It looks like the leg may progress linearly, east to west. Although they could double back to Yotsukaido since they have to go back to the airport.

Can I just say how much I hate that in these later seasons, teams are managing to all get on the one flight. Whatever happened to getting crazy connections through random cities and then running to transfer desks to get standby tickets on earlier flights. Very disappointing :(

In the past, the races were more flight based than task based. Therefore, they were based more on luck than skill.
Gone are the days of teams checking in hours behind other teams because they missed a risky connection or something like that. I tend to like the task-based model TPTB use lately from a viewer's standpoint, but after playing fantasy races, I like the flight-based model better!

Big  :hearts: to everyone finding out it was Shibuya. Believe it or not, I stayed at an apartment complex right around the corner in that scene.

In fact, I went to that AM/PM several times a day lol. To prove it, my friend who went with me on the trip recorded this short video of his trip into the AM/PM:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8VGPqrptXE

Warning of foul language in the middle of the video if you don't like that kind of stuff.   He does a good job showing around outside, and the store with the yellow banner confirms the location being the scene of the incident. Lucky for us we never got ran over by Jaime when we were there.  :lol3:

A lot of locations in recent races tend to have direct flights.

I think that the flight searching only works if one plane arrives no more than 2 hours ahead of the last (because otherwise, the lagging teams would have no opportunity to catch up and that could be boring to watch).

And there are actually two flight itineraries for this leg, which is better than I expected.
