Your Amazing Race Backpack
« on: February 14, 2011, 07:35:09 PM »
I thought about something interesting

So far we've talked about teams, tasks, locations and fanny packs, but not that much about what's in the teams' bags.

For some unorthodox items we have:

Kynt & Vyxsin's makeup
Steve & Allie's Duct Tape
Louie & Michael's clickers
Sam & Dan's calculators

If you were to embark in TAR, which items would be essential in your backpack?
The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move

Calculator & Clicker (Small and lightweight, and both can be extremely useful)
Airplane pillow & Space blanket
Pen and journal for assistance in the inevitable memory task.

CLOTHING!!! All rolled, and cheap shirts that I don't care about so I can jettison them when I'm done with them. Maybe 1 or 2 outfits that I really care about and will wear for the finals.

A bag full of deoderant, toothpaste, etc

And if it would fit, and it exists, a book of simple phrases in many languages (Spanish, Portugese, Chinese, French. As many languages as possible.)

I think phrasebooks are not allowed...

I love this!! One thing I read ages ago was a suggestion to take a silk pillowcase....handy to stuff clothes into to make a pillow for those times you really, really want one.

Oh man.. that's really smart.. Just an empty pillowcase and stuffing clothes into it to make a pillow. Simply handy! But no dirty laundry!

Anyway, just a random question.. do racers bring disposable underwear or simply a few underwear that they dry and wash quickly during pitstop resting hours?? You know.. the hygiene question.

Oh yea, a compass! Or are we allowed one?

Here are the things I'd put in my backpack:

1.  An alarm clock
2.  A notebook and pen (to refresh my memory)
3.  Energy bars (you need them on the Race!)
4.  Calculators (you never know when they might come in handy)
5.  A small pillow that I can use on the airplane or on the streets,
6.  Dictionaries (which I'd buy in airports)
7.  Clothes (but not too many)
8.  Personal hygiene products
9.  Medications that I'd need as well as vitamins and sleeping pills (I think Colin & Christie used them to get some sleep when they were racing)
10.  Duct tape (just in case)

Of course, some of the stuff might go in my partner's bag (like a calculator or duct tape), but that's what I hope to take along.

1. Clothes. (Duh. But not too much though. Three or four changes of most things, plus maybe one sweatshirt.)
2. Waterproof sneakers (I don't know where I'd find these, but I can't stand the feeling of having wet socks! )
3. Alarm clock
4. Notebook & pencil
5. Small, cheap calculator
6. Pillow case (I was thinking about this before this thread was started, but someone beat me to posting it. :) )
7. Sleeping pills
8. Medications/vitamins (if allowed)

Oh yeah, and...

It packs flat, is lightweight, and can be used on a plane/on the streets!  :lol3:

If you're over 60 (or Jen), you might need to fill your backpack with these...

Based on about a hundred racers....Imodium A-D...

Also a space blanket (they fold up very small, always had one with me in Alaska).

Condoms &/ or Lube, because three weeks one way or another I will be using them.

Flight Attendant:  Excuse me sir, are you alright in there.

Me:  I will be in another 5 minutes.

What would you bring?
« Reply #23 on: November 18, 2013, 11:39:20 AM »
I thought I had read this topic before but I could find it so I thought I would make a new topic and bring it back up. So here it is, you made it through the casting process and you are packing your backpack for the race. What do you bring?

Here are some of the things I thought of in addition to be cloths I would bring:

A headlamp: for use in dark situations so that my hands can be free
A whistle: I am not sure if this would be needed but it wouldn't hurt to have. Maybe I can use it to hail a cab
A small calculator: could come in handy for example the gold detour on season 16
A counter: one of the small clicker counters to be used if I ever need to count anything
A small notebook: I would write down everything about the race to use in the final leg memory challenge
Ibuprofen: it is a long race this will definitely come in handy
Ear plugs and possibly an eye mask: again it is a long race any extra sleep or the ear plugs if you need to concentrate on something can't hurt.

Anyways there are other things I would bring but what are some of your ideas for things you would pack?
