I think its a GREAT season and it seems that the odd man out is  RANDY.. :duno:

I totally enjoy how both Steven & Jennifer interact with the contestants and how they are soo expressive and they sing along as well.  The making me feel soo impressed with AI's choice!

I wonder how they will be when we are LIVE and the heartbreaks of each contestant is oh soo much more realistic. I also wonder what their input/guidance  will be  when it's just America voting  to put thru people instead of them.

The shows dynamics are the same but for us and them it's about to seem changed!

 I'm loving this season! :jumpy:

I don't think Randy is the odd man out.. i still think he's a decent judge.. just that he needs to interact more with JLo and Steven Tyler.

I don't ever really remember him interacting with Simon and Paula...he always just said one of his pull-string sayings.

Today's show is really emotional...they're all good....it must be really hard for the judges to just pick 24 from 60 great singers...

It's a totally different show this year. The talent is much better and the auditions are so much better! Have we ever seen auditions showing as many performances that involve the band, the vocal coaches and scenery? Not that I recall. I loved tonight's show with the Beatles's songs and the groups of two and three. With little time to practice, most that went through did a great job.

The other striking thing for me is how confident the performers are this year. They don't show any fear at all when performing.

I am ready for this season.  It should be fantastic.  I hope Casey Abrams does not get eliminated for being in the hospital.  Looking forward to Chris Medinas on the Tonight Show Friday.  I pray that James Durbin does not crash and burn from the stress.  My youngest is high functioning autisic and the stress brings out the worst parts of the disability.

The biggest surprise of this season is I don't have just one favorite yet. :hearts:

I'm ready too, I think this is going to be a very good AI season!  :wohoo:

Bee: I was wondering about how James will handle the stress, but so far so good!

Casey is reportedly going to perform later today so that is wonderful news!!

What do we think of this news?

American Idol
Nigel Lythgoe: online voting is coming

2:08 pm February 21, 2011, by Rodney Ho

Nigel Lythgoe at the Fox Theatre today, Feb. 21, 2011.

Back in 2002, “‘American Idol” offered up just one option to vote: calls.

At some point, “Idol”’ added texting as an option.

This year? Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe just told me that online voting is going to be added this season. Though a publicist later told me it was not a done deal, Lythgoe’s exact quote to me was affirmative: “We are going to introduce online voting.”

He was unsure about the details and whether there’d be any limits on the voting online. He did say that there are no plans to limit texts or voice calls. I videotaped the interview, which was rather brief. I’ll post it later.

Does it bother anyone that we only get to vote once on the 24 contestants and for only 10 to stay? (2 more chosen by the judges.) I wish they would have allowed us to see them perform before a live audience and let us vote after seeing if they can overcome their nerves and pick great songs to highlight their talent.

1: Clint Bamboa Lots of energy and screaming. Randy and Steven thought he was brilliant. JLo, jitters didn't affect his performance, she expects a lot from him.

2: Jovany Barreto JLo said she was glad people could see him. Randy didn't like it, said it was just OK. (I don't even remember it.)

3: Jordan Dorsey He sings OMG by Usher. He had a lot of energy but it was not the best song for him. Judges didn't like it either. Randy said it was pitchy and if you are going to sing anybody's song, you will always be judged by that. It isn't a singer's song. He needed to do more because of the song. (It sounds better listening to him on YouTube.)

More:

4: Tim Halpren Hated the song. The judges weren't impressed either, they thought he'd done much better. (Is he gone?)

5: Brett Loewenstern Not his best for me and he got the dreaded red lighting which usually means you're gone. Judges mentioned his hair tossing but Steven liked it, he said he brought it home. Jlo mentioned the hair but liked it, she likes who he is. Randy said he had 14 hair tosses but he's fun and bold, he appreciated that.
(Could be gone, it was a weak performance.)

6: James Durban I don't like the screaming and I don't much like him, but I give it to him! He clearly is going to be a contender. (Lose that tail!)

7: Robbie Rosen It was tough to follow James, he sang "Arms of an Angel" and he seemed nervous. Steven thought it was a beautiful thing. JLo said he tells a story every time he sings, you feel every word, a huge accomplishment, a special singer. Randy disagreed, he said Robbie is one of his favorites but the notes were really pitchy and he wasn't really comfortable, didn't connect.

8: Scotty McCreery Scotty sang "Letters From Home". He is going to be a huge Country star, we're lucky to see the start of his career. Steven said he's going to get a lot of letters from home, it was beautiful. JLo, you are born to sing Country! Randy said you love Country, you are a throwback country guy, love the lowness in your voice.

9: Stefano Langone sang "Just The Way You Are". He got a slow start but when he got into the chorus, he did well.  Judges loved him! JLo called him a beast! You're amazing! Randy said that's how you do it! You had us rocking! A real rock star, good, REAL good. Steven Love your voice, loved it man!

10: Paul McDonald.  He sang "Maggie Mae" and I thought his voice was a little raspy. Steven said: "See that Paul? It's all about the jacket! (LOL) You have character in the voice, love the character. JLo commented about his smile, "The way you move, all in black but the smile lights up the whole place. Good performance! Randy compared him to Rod Stewart, so unique, quirky and different. He said he was happy that Idol can embrace someone so different.

11: Jacob Lusk I love this guy, he's unique and a powerful singer, he sang "A House Is Not A Home". Steven Tyler said it was divine intervention that brought him here and he was honored to be in his presence. JLo compared him to Luther Vandross. "he's gone but now we have you." Randy concurred saying, "Luther would be so proud of you, we're lucky to have you here, so proud of you."

12: Casey Abrams LOVED IT! He sang "I Put A Spell On You" and got a standing O from the audience. Steven said he starts out good in his mind, good out of your mind good. Good as it gets Crazy good!  JLo said he was sexy. "Sexy Casey! You redefined the whole thing, you took it and ate it all up." Randy said he transformed into the song, so different, so unique.

Tomorrow night the top ten that we voted for will be announced BUT next week, according to Joesplace, the 14 who were not put through with our votes will all come back and sing again next Wednesday to be in the top 12 contestants. On Thursday the judges will name two wild cards. (Obviously one guy, one girl.) It appears that America will not be voting. Stay tuned for further developments.

I'm not a big fan of wild card additions but if one of the better singers who didn't get the votes this week is chosen, that it's all good.
