I will have to go back and look, but I think it was Phil that called them FTBE at the start and it just stuck. I know/think for about the first 3 episodes, I called her LaKisha.....but I got tired of typing all that and since her sister called her "Kisha", I started doing that too.
I think Phil called them FT & BE at the first Pit Stop, then he called them Herb & Nate at the second Pit Stop, before returning to FT & BE for all subsequent Pit Stops.
I'd rather walk alone than let them throw dirty confetti. ♥

Did anybody notice the clue(S) in Phil's back pocket?  I guess he gives it to each team after they solve the paper airplane challenge.

Yup! I think the teams will run up to Phil, and if they have the correct answer, he will give it to them. Just like the airplane tickets Phil gave out at TAR 15.

I really thought she was LaKisha last time. Since her sister calls her Kisha.......everyone else changed it too. I do remember LaKisha.....it is not new to me, fwiw.

And what's with FTBE suddenly calling themselves Herb and Nate?

In the first promos if i remember, Flight Time & Big Easy's promo was listed as Herbert/Nathaniel...

Yes, I see.. The new season of the seven-time Emmy-winning reality series kicks off in Palm Springs, Calif., where the teams must sort through hundreds of paper airplanes to find one of a handful that say "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services," figure out it's the little-used full name for the acronym Qantas Airways, and board one of two flights to Sydney. from USA Today "11 Amazing Race Return"

I have an issue with the assumption that all QANTAS flights from Los Angeles go to Sydney. The QANTAS route map shows nonstop flights from LA to Brisbane and to Melbourne. However, when I test those destinations in a QANTAS reservations system over a limited range of dates, I get all flights to Brisbane and Melbourne being connections through Sydney

And note that Phil's back is to the wind. I'm guessing that when he gives the start signal, somewhere behind him there is a mechanism to release the paper airplanes and have them blown around by the wind and the teams chase after them. Could be quite comical.

Looks like its someone's first time shooting HD.

On a SD camera (4:3) the hand with the camera wouldn't have shown up. Its a typical issue with framing that comes up when you're new to shooting in 16:9.

LOVE that!!

Also...why are they running to their right, Phil's left?
We usually see teams swarming past and around Phil.

Well, as I am new here I am not sure what they have done anything before season 15, so I do remember a Starting line task with the license plates.

But I do not think they will eliminate anyone at the Start Line.

Either way, there are a lot of windmills there.

I see 11 teams in the starting line photos and there were 11 teams in Sydney, so a starting line elimination seems very unlikely. I suppose they could have staged a bunch of photos with one or more teams missing to hide the possibility of an elimination, but that would seem to be an enormous amount of trouble for a slight benefit.

Well wasn't Jet and Cord behind everybody by a lot in Australia? Because I can see them holding a team 30 minutes when they land or something. Though it is unlikely because why would they hold a  team when their is a T.B.C leg.

Well who knows......

I wasn't surprised about Jet and Cord in Sydney, inasmuch as they had the same problem, more or less, on their first leg in TAR 16.

They do know how to make up time fast, though.

I might be able to shed some light on that. In today/yesterdays flights from Melbourne to the USA, I had to connect to LAX with a plane change in Sydney, depsite the same flight number for both the Melb-Syd and Syd-LAX

The same thing is also happening on my return trip. I suspect that all flights from the USA to Australia go through either New Zealand (esp. Air NZ) or Sydney. Sydney is also the largest airport of the three majors on the eastern seaboard, which is probably a key factor.

Qantas made a big announcement here in Dallas last week. Starting in May, they are dropping the route to San Francisco and coming to DFW instead Non-stop from Sydney. Using 747s.
