I think the chances of another Australian leg after Broken Hill are minimal, so I'd say Wednesday is a Phil day (at the next destination), and teams leave Wednesday afternoon or evening to race at their next destination on Thursday.

The first leg Pitstop too has recently been almost the ONLY chance during the race for the racers to have some old-fashioned ESM, so hopefully a nice PitStop here would be in order.

It is likely Indian Pacific back to Sydney (an overnight trip, with sleeper carriages) is a good chance to get over the 15 hour LAX-SYD leg and the jetlag associated with it.

But then, SYD-MEL is a 50 minute sector... so, you never know :) :)

They fly out from Sydney to Tokyo on Qantas Flight 21, Sydney to Narita international airport, tomorrow night (24 Nov).

Cant reveal source, can confirm it is reliable.

This is a possibility if they complete the leg by late afternoon, they can charter back to Sydney and leave for Tokyo

I say Tokyo is next, and I say it's QF21 on 24 Nov leaving from Sydney.

I cant reply to PM's because I'm a new member.   But your source is wrong.

I don't, FLeety does...and he's the one who says he has a source. May need someone to get ready to greet the teams in Japan...

The Indian Pacific (train) departs Broken Hill, Tuesday at 6:30 PM; arrives Sydney, Wednesday 10:15 AM.

I guess this should really be in the spec thread.

That's in 5 hours, too soon for teams. There is a flight Wed morning departing at 9am. It is 1pm now and they are still racing, if they get to the PS by 4 or 5 and are released 12hrs later they could all catch up by taking this.

There is a flight Wed morning departing at 9am.

After an assumed elimination in Broken Hill.....you will have 10 teams left........thats 40 people. Rex Regional Express's largest plane only holds 34 people.........what do the other 6 people do?

 :duno:

There is no Broken Hill train departure on Wed, no more flights out of there. Those charters didn't touch down til 9am and if they had a 12hr PS from then they would still miss the train.
Only option I see is a fudged PS that gets them back to Sydney during the 12 hours. If it arrives there by 10am they would have about 6hrs before being released.

The Truth Was Out There.

Two and a half weeks ago.

And we missed it.  :'(

From a speech by Senator the Hon Nick Sherry on November 4th to an adventure and backpacking conference that I found on an Australian Government site:

In addition, Australia will host North American TV show the Amazing Race, which will be filmed here in Sydney, possibly in the Blue Mountains - or even further in Broken Hill.

The whole speech is at http://minister.innovation.gov.au/sherry/Pages/ADDRESSTOTHEADVENTUREANDBACKPACKINGINDUSTRYCONFERENCE.aspx

Given how completely 18 was kept under wraps, I'm surprised that slip even happened, much less not get noticed.

I'm not surprised either that we missed it. I only found it accidentally when I was searching for something else. I tried other search terms that should have worked and it didn't come up. I think you would have had to know where they were going to find it and of course, we didn't.

I agree, I was surprised that the Honorable Mr. Sherry was that indiscreet. I was just being a bit sarcastic in my earlier post.

I have to agree and the flights are just not in the system yet. Its either that or a 6 hour drive to Adelaide or 9 hour drive to Melbourne. Maybe they have those highway "trains" lined up again.....lol

Road trains are the behemoths that teams used to get from Coober Pedy to Glendambo in TAR2. Basically, it's a truck pulling more than one trailer.

I'm not surprised that slipup got through, considering how completely the Israeli media seems to have made up its own leg for TAR Australia.
