I only have been here since season 9...so you would have to ask the old timers!

Things have really changed with the advent of Twitter and FB posts. We almost NEVER used to have live info...it was all research, hours and hours of searching photo sites, and blogs, and trolling for the least mention of TAR somewhere.

Things are much more immediate now... and with all the info we have on this season, it hasn't been difficult at all! This is an enormous amount of info to work our way through, thank goodness we have some time.

The missing links will gradually fill in...this is what we do in the down time.

The race will be ending very soon, but the search is just beginning!! And all of Y'ALL will be helping, right??

A logical time for completion of AR18 All-Stars is tomorrow. That would allow Phil to get to New York City for the CBS cast party held on the night of the finale and allow him to be available for the CBS Early Show on Monday to chat with the winners.

Which would probably mean the finale is in New York City.

Not necessarily. Most places in the eastern half of the United States are a 2-3 hour flight away from New York City. Phil could easily catch a flight late Saturday night or more likely Sunday morning and arrive well in advance of the cast party Sunday night.

I think it is unlikely that the final leg of TAR 18 will be in New York City.

I agree with Plaidmoon2. It is easy to get to NYC from Miami, Atlanta, Washington, Philadelphia or Boston. I don't think the finale will be in New York City, but this is just my speculation.

I don't think it will be in NYC either. Many fans of the race will know that everyone will be there for the finale party. Wouldn't it be too risky to send the contestants from this race there as well? It would spoil it for a lot of people who saw them.

The finale will be somewhere where they can show off their HD equipment.

Today is now the 22nd day of filming, interesting.

I wouldn't bet on it. For one, they would not be the first team to miss the finale party of their own season (David/Mary & Dustin/Kandice also missed for Season 10). And even if their race was over, their appearance is no guarantee.  Again, back to Season 10, only the Top 3 teams were in New York that year (as several teams opted to stay warm/head to Los Angeles with many of those teams making the trip to NYC for the following All-Star season).

Finally, like D/M & D/K (for TAR11), Gary/Mallory will have the opportunity to make NYC in May, at which point if all goes well, people can ask them all the questions in terms of both TAR17 & TAR18.

BTW, someone should correct the spelling of Sao Paulo on the timeline 1st entry. It's Paulo (with an U) not Paolo.

This is kind of interesting, we've never had two back-to-back short legs before, or a final leg where Phil arrives the day before the teams. I'm not too sure about the Rio dates either. I might come back to confirm the timings when I have the time!

akextofu07,

As someone who has been to Zermatt, let me assure you that not only are there no airplanes allowed on the ground  anywhere near it, but cars are forbidden in Zermatt. this helps keep it a cute expensive resort town which is totally mountainous and has no extended flat spaces for things like runways. The closest really major airport is Zurich over 3 hours ( I could look it up, but it is not germane to my position) away. From Zurich, here are best flight options to Rio:

fly to Paris, connect to Rio (2 flight combinations)
fly to Sao Paulo, connect to Rio
fly to Frankfurt, connect to Rio
fly to Lisbon, connect to Rio

So, Madrid is not among the top options as a connecting point, although that does not mean that some AR18 teams did not use it. Maybe there were not enough seats on one of the better options. If you really have a desire to see these details, go to post#1 in the AR18 Primary Transportation Options thread.
