Task related to Captain Cook's Cruises
EVIDENCE: At least four teams bought tickets (Source)

I don't think there was any tasks related to Captain Cook's Cruises. G/M, K/J and A/K all bought tickets on the fast ferry to Manly from the Cruise's booth. (I also bought a ticket from the same booth, you'd be amazed how far "Can you give me what those American's got" takes you)

woden, the link for "Source 3" at the end there is broken - there is no URL specified.  I assume you are referring to Kuni's account here or my initial posting referring to Kuni's post on mixi.jp here?

Our Twitter friend (who seems to be from Shenzhen) arrived in Kunming by plane, saw the teams, and left Kunming on an 8.50pm train. He was headed to the airport when he made a tweet at 3.16pm, and made a second tweet at 4.42pm. The only flight from Shenzhen or Guangzhou to Kunming in this interval is: MU 5758 from Shenzhen to Kunming, 1710-1908 (scheduled 1655-1910)

Gary/Mallory are hence seen at Kunming airport around 7.15pm of 27 Nov. From Kunming, the earliest flight arrives in Lijiang at 9.35pm, the earliest train at 5.38am the next day. Since Lijiang isn't particularly pretty at night, it looks like the Lijiang race will take place on 28 Nov.

There isn't enough time for a leg in a third country between Japan and China, but the timing looks good for a second leg in Japan. However, if Phil decides to take his time getting to Lijiang, it's very possible 26 Nov was simply used for Phil's travel.

I should have recognised that train station! I missed a train there before... So teams are not allowed to fly to Lijiang, but assuming they must take the train (instead of having the option of taking the bus), here are the only two options tonight:

L9032/L9033: 2050-0538 (G/M's train)
K9606/K9607: 2216-0633

(I now realise how poor I am compared to many TAR fans...)

I'm thinking this is the airport after all? This definitely doesn't look like the train station I know...

Plus there's a plane landing in the top right hand corner.

Going by Mad Joe's report that there are nine teams racing in Lijiang and that Lijiang was a non-elimination, it follows that there was only one leg in Japan. If there were two legs, one of them is necessarily a non-elimination, and we would have had only two eliminations in the first five legs (counting TBC as two).

The tour guide standing next to Phil comfirms maggie/luke,kisha/jen,flight time/big easy,jet/cord,and teams i witnessed christina/ron

From Mad_Joe

so Mel/Mike,Jamie/Cara may be on their way to somewhere now...

He posted that most recently. the "other teams i witnessed" were mallory and gary, zev and justin, and kynt and vyxsin, IIRC. That would be 8

"This was in Calcutta or Kolkatta as it is called now on the 2nd of December 1510hrs. Taking the kingfisher flight."

So...here are those flights....where are they heading??
IT 4577 to Ranchi, leaving 1755
IT 2503 to Bhubaneswar, leaving 1840
IT 3432 to Hyderabad, leaving 1845
IT 4579 to Patna, leaving 1905
IT 514 to Mumbai, leaving 2025
IT 604 to Delhi, leaving 2055

Ranchi, Bhubaneswar and Patna are pretty close to Kolkata, and with the Broken Hill-Sydney and Lijiang-Kunming rides this season the course probably would have sent racers on the train, taking about 8h to Ranchi or Patna and 7h to Bhubaneswar.

As for flights, there were two other flights between 3.10pm and the 6.45pm Kingfisher flight to Hyderabad, five other flights between 3.10pm and the 8.25pm Kingfisher flight to Delhi, and eight other flights between 3.10pm and the 8.55pm Kingfisher flight to Mumbai.

The only reasons they wouldn't take an earlier flight are:
1. Earlier flights are sold out, but with so many options it's unlikely.
2. Teams are connecting on a Kingfisher flight.

Hmm, looking at all Kingfisher's international destinations west of China, there doesn't seem to be any way out! Anyone with a clue?

A couple of possibilities. Goa, Thiruvananthapuram and Varanasi look the most likely.

Assumptions
1. Teams will not fly to Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, or Patna.
2. Teams with Hyderabad, Mumbai, or Delhi as their final destination would have taken an earlier flight.
3. Teams hence took Kingfisher to connect on another Kingfisher flight, or its partners American Airlines and British Airways.

Possible connections through Hyderabad
IT 3432 to Hyderabad, 1845-2050
Eliminated: Bangalore, Nagpur, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam
Possible: Tirupati, Rajahmundry

Possible connections through Mumbai
IT 514 to Mumbai, 2025-2340
Eliminated: London, Brussels, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kochi, Coimbatore
Possible: Goa, Kandla, Bhavnagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Nanded

Possible connections through Delhi
IT 604 to Delhi, 2055-2310
Eliminated: London, Brussels, Bangalore, Amritsar, Lucknow, Guwahati, Chennai, Pune, Dehra Dun, Bagdogra, Udaipur, Jaipur
Possible: Jabalpur, Kulu, Chandigarh, Varanasi, Simla, Dharamsala

I came to the same conclusion as you about the close to Kolkatta cities and trains......and all the others have quicker connections than on Kingfisher........except for Hyderabad. But there is no way to get to Goa from there quicker than going to Delhi or Mumbai
