TAR 17 Scheduling + Airing Times
« on: September 30, 2010, 12:07:44 PM »
Please post any time issues, overruns here.

Would also like to hear some opinions on the end date since it appears we have a 12 episode run...

I had posted this in the episode 2 thread before this thread was created, so I'm copying it over. The URL for the506 website is http://the506.com, and its has sports programming distribution maps for NFL, college football, and other sports there (expanded this month, in fact)

Quote
I'm putting this information in the episode thread because it deals with the CBS NFL game distribution that affects the airtime of this episode on Sunday.
This week CBS is sending only one game to all markets. (FOX has the doubleheader.)
However, there are two games airing in late afternoon that will affect some markets that broadcast the CBS east coast primetime feed. The games are Indianapolis and Jacksonville, and Houston at Oakland. Based on the map posted at the506.com, CBS markets that may have an NFL overrun include much of Texas, Florida and Georgia, all of Michigan, most of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, parts of Missouri and South Carolina, and most of the west coast (but that would be an early afternoon game for them and they won't have a delay.) Some local station might make changes before Sunday, but no changes are listed yet at the map site.

TAR 17 finale, I would think is December 12th, with Survivor on the 19th.  We've had those dates in past seasons.  This would imply no skipped weeks during the season.
If there is a skipped week around Thanksgiving, then it almost certainly points to a two-hour finale of the last two legs on the 12th. (It depends how many hours CBS is given Undercover Boss before Christmas; especially with the likelihood of a two-hour Hallmark special which is usually on a Sunday in December before Christmas.)

It's possible that we may have a 2-hour finale consisting of the 11th and 12th legs.

From looking at those game maps on the 506 website, I am deducing that FOX has the double header this Sunday. Dallas will have the early game on CBS and the rest of Texas will have the late game on CBS. Does that mean that TAR will start at 7pm for Dallas and will start later if there is a game delay for the rest of Texas? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks DrRox, you might be right about a delay...

Here is a CBS Eye-lert for 10/1/10:

An NFL runover on Sunday, 10/3 could delay start times for 60 Minutes (7:00 pm ET), Amazing Race (8:00pm ET), Undercover Boss (9:00pm ET) and CSI: Miami (10:00pm ET).

That is correct. If the 506 lists a late game on CBS on a non-doubleheader week, then those areas receiving a late game can anticipate an overrun while the areas only getting an early game will start on time.

It's one reason I posted the information, and posted that link.  That site is the only place I've found tjat compiles this information accurately; and IIRC, it's been known abour in TAR fandom for about 5 years now. Ny the way, the only switches in local markets were around San Francisco/Oakland , because one of those teams did not have a sellout at least 72 hours in advance of the game. But they don't have to worry about a TAR braodcast delay anyhow.

The NFL distribution maps for the coming Sunday's CBS doubleheader are now out, and it appears the entire US east of the Rockies will be getting Tennessee at Dallas; as well as half of the western U.S.  The other areas are not on the east coast feed, so they won't have a NFL overrun to worry about.

The Kansas City markey has switched to the game that much of the western part of the U.S. is getting, so there's a possibility that any overrun will include both of the late CBS games today.

(A couple of the west coast markets flipped, but those won't affect the showtime on the west coast.

Will post CBS eye-lert when received.

Since we have 12 eps (as we know from PHil), with no double eps, that puts it 12/12.  BUT some of us think that makes the Survivor finale awfully close to Christmas, so are wondering if perhaps they could be considering a 2 hour finale, which would make it 12/5...much more appealing. (total spec! )

Either 12/5 or 12/12....  And you BETTER come!! :hearts:

Quite a few major markets in the eastern and central time zones are getting the single CBS ga,e at 4:15 pm ET on Sunday, and may have a NFL overrun.
Among those markets getting the late game are:
New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and other parts of the Michigan lower penisula, Philadelphia, New York City, all of New Jersey, Parts of "upstate New York (Albany and the Hudson River Valley) and Long Island, southern Vermont, western Massachusetts, western Connecticut, and South Dakota, western Nebraska, western Kansas, much of New Mexico. Most of the Rocky Mountains and Western states are getting the late games but their prime time schedules won't be affected.
If I happen to get a CBS EYe-lert, I'll try to post the information, but my market is not getting a late game Sunday.

Next week, someone else may need to check the506.com website, although CBS should be having the doubleheader on 10/24. (I'll be having eye surgery on Tuesday, and I have no idea if I'll be able to post online for a few days afterwards.

Next Sunday (10/24) is a doubleheader Sunday for CBS; everyone is getting a late game, except for the Tampa Bay area, which is getting only an early game due to NFL home blackout rules.
There are two late games for CBS, so I would anticipate that viewers of the game that ends first will be switched to the other late game at its conclusion.

Quite a few markets that get the CBS east coast feed are currently scheduled to get the one late CBS game on Sunday, and risk a NFL overrun Sunday evening 10/31.

These markets include those centered on Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte, St. Louis, Norfolk, Washington DC, New York City, Detroit, Green Bay, Milwaukee. Much of Michigan, Tenneesee, and Wisconsin are also included (Tennessee v. San Diego)

All of the other CBS games on Sunday are early games.

Most of the U.S. appears to get the Tennessee/San Diego game that started at 405pm. AT 606pm there is 6.5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the score is 19-17, which means a tie is unlikely.  I see a good possibility of 60 Minutes starting at 7pm.

Apskip, actually most US markets are not getting the late game. A lot of NFL teams' home markets are, but this is not a doubleheader week. (See my post above from October 26th.) Here's the link to this week's map for CBS games.  The areas in green are getting the late game: http://the506.com/sports/?tag=2010-week-8

CBS has confirmed that the TAR 17 finale will air December 12th; it's in the same press release as the announcement of TAR 18 for the spring and that one being in HD.

CBS's "THE AMAZING RACE" WILL TRAVEL THE GLOBE IN HD THIS SPRING

CBS announced today that the Spring edition of the Emmy Award-winning series THE AMAZING RACE will be broadcast in HD.

"We're thrilled the audience watching us sprint around the globe each week will continue to witness the breathtaking landscapes that serve as our backdrops, only now in high definition. Whether we're racing alongside the crystal-white peaks of the Arctic Circle, the neon-lined skyscrapers of Japan, or the color-drenched domes of the Russian Kremlin, fans will enjoy a heightened viewing experience as we bring the world to their couch every Sunday night," said Executive Producer and co-Creator Bertram van Munster.

This Fall's installment of THE AMAZING RACE is posting across the board increases versus last Fall's edition, averaging 11.69 million viewers (+4%), 4.7 in adults 25-54 (+7%) and 3.8 in adults 18-49 (+9%). This season's finale will take place on Sunday, Dec. 12 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

In checking the NFL game distribution for the late CBS game on Sunday, 11/7, it appears that everyone, except for the Seattle TV market area is getting one of two late games (Indianapolis v. Philadelphia or Kansas City v. Oakland).  For folks getting the east coast prime time feed, most of you will be getting the Indy v. Philly game, folks mostly in Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, and South Dakota, and a few adjacent areas will be getting the KC v. Oakland game.  The odds are that CBS will switch viewers from the game that is over first to the other game, and at the conclusion of that second late game, everyone will then move on to 60 Minutes.

And of course, the CBS live feed will be further delayed due to the NFL football doubleheader.

IN the New York metro area (and presumably much of the East Coast) the late game of Indianapolis vs. Philadelphia is sunning late. At 625pm, there is 10 minutes left in the third quarter. This game will probably not finish before 730pm.

The other game, Oakland v. Kansas City is 20-17 KC, with about 7 minutes left. (KC just scored.) And it's 19 after the hour.  So this one may be well past the half-hour mark, and the east coast folks may be joining us first.

There's 7 seconds left in regulation the Oakland - Kansas City game, Oakland trails 20-17, and will be attempting to tie with a field goal right now.

And we have a tie with 3 seconds left in regulation, folks.  Guess the east coast will be joining us after all.

If you haven't switched the DVR to record Undercover Boss (plus some extra minutes or so), now would be a great time to do so! The good news is that this should produce great numbers for TAR tonight (esp with the previous episode ending in a NE).

The Raider fan in me is over overjoyed.  THis is a significant overrun, usually delays of 30-45 minutes give us the biggest boost.  This week we will have to contend with Football, and Desperate Housewives which is a lot more competition from ABC.

CBS just pulled CSI from the schedule for tonight due to the overrun. Second Eye-lert just came in and it was taken out.

I think they do that if the overrun reaches a certain time limit.  I want to say 55 minutes, but I could be wrong.  I know we almost reached that point this year with one week but missed it by just a couple minutes.

Next Sunday, CBS has a single game, so you would think many of us won't be getting the single late game (Kansas City v. Denver)? Wrong. The yellow is deceptively hitting a number of large urban markets.

Among the states and urban areas currently scheduled to get the one late CBS game are (in the areas that get the east coast feed); not to mention Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, most of Minnesota (Twin Cities, too), Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri (Kansas City but not St, Louis), Chicago, Detroit and much of Michigan, Buffalo, Charlotte, Tampa Bay, and small areas of Arkansas, Oklahoma, California, Oregon, Nevada, and Oregon.

Of course, this is only Wednesday, so others could change by the weekend.

Yes, CBS switched Tampa and Buffalo to early games. The overruns really only affect the Eastern and Central time zones.

A few more switches among the affiliates between the early games and the one late game:
The Milwaukee area is now taking the late game; some markets in Oregon and Montana have switched to one of the early games but they don't have to worry about NFL overruns anyhow.

As I'm in one of the markets with a late game but getting the CBS east coast feed, I expect to be able to receive a CBS Eye-lert with the overrun information.

The chances of an overtime are very slim though, as Denver is leading Kansas City 49-17 with 11 minutes left in the game.

The delay is about 34 to 35 minutes for those few markets that had the late game and get the east coast feed.

It appears that the overrun is about 10 minutes, as the game has finished, and the stations are in commercials in advance of 60 Minutes.  Will confirm with Eye-lert as received.

The Sunday after Thanksgiving is a single-header game for CBS, and quite a few markets that get the CBS east coast feed are getting one of two single late games (Miami at Oakland and Kansas City at Seattle. Markets include: all of south Florida, Mobile, Atlanta, Charlotte, Norfolk, Richmond. DC, Baltimore, Cleveland, Most of Upper Michigan, all of Wisconsin, most of Minnesota, all of South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, most of Missouri including Kansas City, Kansas, other markets appear to be areas with the west coast feeds.

As always, there could be changes before Sunday; I'll check again before Sunday.

As of Friday evening, the only changes were in the Bay area, as Oakland-Miami game did not sell out.  No changes in the markets that get the east coast feed.

Turns out CBS does not have a doubleheader this coming weekend, but CBS will have a doubleheader on finale night (Dec. 12th).

Among the east coast feed markets currently scheduled to get the single late afternoon CBS game (Oakland v. San Diego) are: New Orleans, upstate South Carolina, Cincinnati, Chicago, most of Wisconsin, most of the Upper and Lower Peninsula of Michigan (including Detroit), the greater New York metro (NJ, CT and NY), and the Baltimore-Washington-Richmond-Norfolk markets.

It's only Tuesday, and some markets could change, but putting both New York, Chicago and the mid-Atlantic on the late game feeds is going to have quite a few Nielsen families dealing with an NFL overrun.

Some of the above markets have switched from the late game to one of the early games.  These include the Cincinnati area, and some west coast feed markets in Washington state.

For the final time this season, CBS is having a doubleheader, which means that most east coast markets may have an overrun delaying the start of TAR.

CBS has more late games this week (4) than early games. The only market not getting a late game is New Orleans. Of the four games, only three of them are being sent to east coast feed areas, one game is only going to markets getting the later west coast feed. Of the other three, one game is only going to markets in the central time zone, and the other two are splitting the east coast markets.  My guess is that CBS plan to roll everyone on the east coast feed over to whichever games remain in progress until the three games are completed.

We'll have to monitor for changes, because if an east coast feed market switches to that fourth game, it will complicate matters.
