American Idol Judges Announced.
« on: September 22, 2010, 12:48:54 PM »
Today Fox announced the new judges for American Idol. They are Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, with Randy Jackson as the only one left from the original panel.

Will the new judges revive the show? I don't know but I'll watch to see.

Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler Announced As New Idol Judges

It's official!

Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler will be joining Randy Jackson at the judges' table when American Idol kicks off season 10 in January.

"I'm looking for the next Michael Jackson," Lopez said before a screaming crowd at the Los Angeles Forum after Ryan Seacrest introduced her. "We're looking for the best American Idol ever."

The announcement was made during a live press conference Wednesday. Seacrest hosted the event, telling the crowd, "We are looking for the next star in music. We usually ask, who will be the next American Idol? We never asked this question, who will be the next judges on American Idol?"

Seacrest then introduced Randy Jackson, who told the crowd, "We found some unbelievable talent and I am calling season 10 the remix, baby!"

Up next, Tyler was introduced as a "rock legend." The Aerosmith frontman said joining the Idol family feels "fabulous."

"[It] feels like the perfect feathered nest," he said. "It's being a part of something much bigger than yourself. I want to bring some rock to this roller coaster."

Lopez, who dressed in a silver pant suit, was the last to be introduced.

"I love you guys. I am so excited," she told the crowd that included Idol hopefuls, there to try out for the show. "It is about concentrating in the moment, do the best you can. Just live! Just live, it's your moment."

The announcement comes with little surprise. In weeks leading up to the decision, sources told PEOPLE Lopez signed the deal worth $12 million. And Tyler himself said he would "probably" be a judge when the show returned in the winter.

I saw a Jordan Sparks interview the other day and she was asked about J Lo was a mentor on her season and she loved her, she was really sweet.  She thinks she will be an asset to the show. She also said that she loved Steven Tyler.

This might really revive AI.

I am not happy with the choices for the two new judges.  Perhaps this will
breathe some life into the show.......I'm not sure if I will be watching.   :duno:

I have my fingers crossed. I have three IF's. It will work if the judges click with each other. It will work if someone can tell the contestants the truth and IF the singers have talent.  Step up the quality of the talent!

I also read that they are lowering the age limit to 15.

Ryan Seacrest Dishes On New ‘American Idol’ Judges
January 6, 2011

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Simon Cowell is gone, but mean critiques from the “American Idol” judges’ table will continue thanks to Jennifer Lopez!

“Jennifer [is the mean one],” “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest told Access Hollywood at the 2011 E! TCA party on Tuesday. “She expects a lot… she’s tough, but she gives tough love.”

J.Lo might be the stern judge, but according to Ryan, Steven Tyler is the sensitive one who will be shedding some tears.

“Steven is probably our most emotional judge. We will probably see tears from Steven as well as laughs and he’s a prankster too, but they got along very well on the road,” Ryan continued.

In addition to “Idol,” Ryan is busy at work producing and slew of shows for E! and in the future is hoping to possibly launch is own network, like Oprah’s OWN.

“The idea is to try and come up with as many different shows as possible so that there would be an opportunity to have a network… that would be wonderful,” Ryan, whose credits include “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated,” explained.

It's surprising that J.Lo is the harsh one on the block! Or maybe I'm stereotyping.

No, I don't think it's stereotyping, she might be tougher, good cop, bad cop for the singers.  ;)

Or maybe good cop, good cop!

Less nasty, more nice in revamped "American Idol"

By Jill Serjeant

LOS ANGELES | Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:20pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "American Idol" returns to television next week not only with two new celebrity judges, but a whole new attitude -- less of the cutting put-downs and more support and coaching for aspiring new pop stars, producers said on Tuesday.

The exit of caustic British judge Simon Cowell, and the addition of singer Jennifer Lopez and rock star Steven Tyler has shaken up the dynamics of the top-rated TV singing contest, and placed the emphasis squarely on encouraging original talent, they said.

Gone are the old "nasty and nice" roles once seen from judges, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told TV journalists.
