Phil raises the idea of a Celebrity Fan edition

From today's posting at EW.com "The Amazing Race"  Time for a Celebruty Edition?

Phil raises and discusses the possibility of casting an all-celebrity edition. I've raised this idea as an more viable alternative to another All-Star Edition, as it avoids some of the issue Bert has raised about how TAR All Stars didn't fit with what TAR should be, and could deal with celebrities being on TAR in a way that would be fair to those who aren't (unlike Boston Rob's casting in TAR 7).

If TPTB gave the casting process a longer lead time so interested celebrities could adjust their commitments, it could work, and work in a way that would be entertaining and fascinating at the same time.

I do believe I hear the nail in the coffin of TAR ringing loud and clear if this Celebrity edition comes to pass.  TAR's base is already outraged by all the semi-celebs taking over what the base sees as their "average Joe's chance to live a dream.  It is no longer a "reality show" in its present form.  It is just another publicity launching board for D-listed semi-celebs.  Any novice watching now can tell the difference between who has been in the spotlight before and who hasn't.  I won't even bother to watch or TIVO a celebrity edition.  I do believe that in the short term, such an edition might bring in viewers, but it would ultimately do irreparable damage to the base, and without the base, TAR will die.  What a waste!

I had posted this trivial article on the TAR17 Media thread before seeing it conceptually duplicate on this thread. The report was fishing and there was nothing of substance revealed.  Read it for yourself:

Could the next contestants on "The Amazing Race" be celebrities?

Phil Keoghan, who hosts the CBS show that features contestants racing around the globe, say the show is talking about the idea of famous challengers catching cabs in foreign cities or jumping into hot air balloons.

"If every celebrity who has told me they liked the show signed up and was a part of it, that would be huge," Keoghan told Entertainment Weekly.

"I know Sarah Jessica Parker is a big fan of the show, and I heard Drew Barrymore likes the show, and Neil Patrick Harris likes the show. I just don't know if they realize what [is in store]."

Keoghan has said the biggest hurdle would be finding celebs with enough time in their schedules to film the show at a single stretch.

The show usually takes nearly a month to film.

one question, is that source reliable?

Reasonably so; you just have to read between the lines.

When you read something like "Keoghan told Entertainment Weekly," it could mean a number of things:
* somebody faxed a press release, and EW was one of the recipients
* there was a press conference, and EW was in the room
* Phil was reading from template/boilerplate during a round of phone interviewsSo it's probably genuine, just not unique.
