Perth & Fremantle (TAR 9)
« on: July 13, 2010, 09:33:57 AM »
Went on a trip with the family to Perth about a week ago, so I made certain to find some Amazing Race locales and get photos of them.

Our first stop: King's Park War Memorial & The Eternal Flame.

Flame- Wide

Flame- Zoomed in

Flame from behind

Take a ferry to Rottnest Island

Ferry company- Two tickets to Rottnest please!

Rottnest bike shop

Hours of Operation- 8 AM to 4 PM

The hours of operation in this case is interesting because the first ferry departs at 7 AM. The ferry from Fremantle to Rottnest takes 30 minutes, meaning teams were left here for half an hour before it opened.

Tandem Bike

Ride a tandem bike to Wadjemup Lighthouse

Lighthouse- It sits in the middle of the island, so its gotta be really big.

Final hill leading to the lighthouse- The incline on this thing is about 30 degrees- Not easy (And props to Fran and Barry for kicking this tough ride out of the park)

The cluebox sat on this patch of asphalt.

Detour- Sand or Sea?

Detour- Sand?

Or Sea?

Another picture of the water- It is so clear, its amazing. If it was summer I wouldn't have hesitated, but unfortunately its the middle of winter and far too cold.

Go back to the mainland and make your way to Fremantle Prison

Fremantle Prison- The Yard

The inside of the prison- The view through the open door is all we got to see of number 4 division, unfortunately.

The reason those nets are there is because early in the prisons history, an inmate killed himself by jumping off the top floor. Those nets were installed so nobody could commit suicide again. Prisoners learned quickly that it would stop a person. It would also stop the toilet bucket. But it would NOT stop the contents of said bucket.

The Pit Stop- Eric and Jeremy, you are team number one!

From behind- The giant ugly pole never made it to TV

If you look closely, you can see some buildings to the immediate right of the boats- The parking lot is behind that.

The Swan Bells Tower

Opening hours!

The cluebox stood here

In the shadow of these bells- For 1 dollar, you can make them play a tune, which you can pick out of a huge database.

The video will come up once it uploads to Youtube.

These are all the pictures I'll put here for now. I have loads more though, so if you want to see more of anything, let me know and I'll put up some more pictures.

One thing that I'm disappointed didn't make it to the race is Jacob's Ladder- 242 steps, insanely steep. Could have made a very cruel and physically demanding counting Roadblock (Of course, racers don't know that they were supposed to count until they reach the top and are asked 'How many steps have you climbed?')

Thanks Coutzy! Wow! :hearts:

Me? I only have a picture of Rizal Park here in the Philippines from Season 5, and Fort Santiago's Pitstop from Season 2 of TARA. What a shame for me, really.

I hope more people share their Amazing Race 'been there done that's! :jumpy:

With what pace did you make your excursion? I really wondered if you did it at tourist speed or at RFF Detective speed?

This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move

It was all done at tourist speed. We covered all of Rottnest Island in one day (On the bikes, too!) Fremantle was a different day and King's Park & Swan Bells were on separate days too.
