Survivor 21: Nicaragua Spoiler Discussion
« on: April 18, 2010, 11:47:00 AM »
They have pretty much confirmed that seasons 21 and 22 will take place in Nicaragua, according to this article.

Quote
Salinas said the famous U.S. TV show “Survivor” and the Spanish version “ Superviviente ” are also in the process of confirming Nicaragua as the site for their next shows.

RealityBlurred has also said that seasons 23 and 24 may film in Caramoan in the Phillipines:

This article says that seasons 21 and 22 will be filmed somewhere near San Juan del Sur, on the Pacific Ocean side.

Hard to open so here it is:

Nicaragua to host two seasons of hit TV series Survivor
CBS announced that Nicaragua has been chosen as the next location for the filming of the Emmy Award-winning reality television series Survivor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release) – May 16, 2010 – CBS announced this Sunday in New York City that Nicaragua has been chosen as the next location for the filming of the Emmy Award-winning reality television series Survivor. The beaches on Nicaragua’s southern pacific coast will become the new scenario of one of TV’s most successful shows during the 21st and 22nd seasons, after a careful selection process on behalf of the producers which included evaluating the country’s capacity to host a show of this magnitude.

Some of the factors taken into consideration when assessing Nicaragua’s potential as host were the country’s climatic conditions, the ability to accommodate the show´s crew, access to filming areas and the existence of spectacular natural beauties. Another key decision factor was the support received from the Government of Nicaragua and other local institutions involved during the process.

The show consists of filming the daily lives of 20 contestants who will compete to survive in the beaches of San Juan del Sur, in the department of Rivas, for almost 40 days without food or shelter. Contestants will be divided into two tribes to compete for rewards or immunity; the challenges can be games of skills, strategy and endurance. The last remaining contestant will earn the title of Sole Survivor and will win a US$1 million prize.

The show will have a big impact on Nicaragua’s tourism sector and its economy, generating approximately 200 jobs during the six month period in which it will be produced. “The show marks the arrival of Nicaragua as the emerging tourism destination in the region, we have become a point of reference for vacation and retirement and we’ll now gain international recognition as a shooting location too” said Javier Chamorro, Executive Director of PRONicaragua.

A season of Survivor produces 15 hours of television that are watched by 15 million American viewers per week on primetime television over a 14-week period. Survivor also airs in 154 countries around the world, reaching an international audience of 100 million.

Survivor has been named the best non-script drama of all times, winning two Emmy Awards in 2001. The Survivor format has been adapted for numerous international versions of the show, including Italy’s “Celebrity Island” and Spain’s “Supervivientes”, both of which have filmed in Nicaragua earlier this year.

In recent years, San Juan del Sur has drawn international attention as an exotic tourism hotspot due to its traditional town life, its world-renowned beaches for surfing and its first-class tourism developments.

Great article on the location from BlindFreddy:

Quote
This time out it's going to be a dream location for the crew. Picture yourself on the warm Pacific coast of a nicely tucked away sunspot that happens to be the surfing capital of Central America. Throw in a quaint fishing village that has upscaled itself into a Hollywood celebrity hideaway, an ex-pat real estate hotspot and all the nightlife the young and beautiful can manage and what do you get? The perfect work location, if you can call that work. Did I mention the awesome surfing? And the partying?...well that part is just understood I guess.

Digressing to what they will actually be filming is less exciting however. There will be beautiful wide long sandy beaches with breathtaking sunsets. There will be heat, lots of it and a few bugs when the ocean breeze dies down. There could be Reward getaway opportunities to forest preserves, a turtle nesting reserve or even a picnic atop a volcano. There will be no shortage of beaches for challenge locations but there could be a shortage of motivation to actually do them. San Juan Del Sur is the very essence of the term 'laid back'. You cannot 'lay back' any further that at San Juan Del Sur. It's so laid back they're probably going to have to cart Probst to Tribal Council in a wheelbarrow and prop him up for his duties. It's so laid back they may not even have Tribal Councils if the surf is up and a good wave is breaking. But wait that's every day. Hmmmm, could be trouble.

No Exile Island. One tribal shake-up pretty early. Clues to the hidden immunity idol were found on day 1, I think by a water well but finding the idol itself, lots harder this time around. Two girls have the first clue to where it is. One double boot.

and

-the young tribe has the numbers advantage when they do a tribe switch relatively early in the game
-challenges weren't necessarily physical
-Holly is a "ticking bomb"
-there is YouTube spoiler that says Holly is the first boot, Jimmy T & Jimmy J are early boots, and that Dan is the first jury member
-a couple of people go on immunity runs
