Speed Bumps:

TAR 16 Leg 5: Right before Detour (first real task of Leg)

TAR 15 Leg 9: Right before Roadblock (first task of leg)
TAR 15 Leg 11: Right before Roadblock (first task of leg)

TAR 14 Leg 6: Right before Detour, after Roadblock
TAR 14 Leg 9: Before Roadblock and Detour

TAR 13 Leg 7: Right (before/after? - can someone verify please?) Detour, after Roadblock
TAR 13 Leg 10: Right before Detour, after Roadblock

I won't go back further, but usually they are earlier in the leg rather than later.

Hooky,
You have done a great job, so I have gone further back. This is not onerous, as SpeedBumps started with Amazing Race 12 and they were only two in that race. Kynt and Vyxsin had one in ep. 8 in Mumbai, the yoga exercises before the DETOUR or the ROADBLOCK. TK and Rachel had one in ep. 10, the firecracker run and hosing in central Taiwan, before the ROADBLOCK or DETOUR.

Another indication that production was there to get their stuff to the boat all nice and dry.
That is fine, except that the bags were left not at the dock but back at the Turtle Toodle site 1.5 miles away. Was Production responsible for going back to get them? I don't think so. I expect that Production would have loaded onto the boat only items brought to the dock, but not anything left elsewhere.

Wow - you guys have been busy! FTR, I have updated the timeline for this episode on the first page of the Timelines thread if anyone is (understandably) still confused after digging through the thread.

Here is the full quote, apskip. Guess you missed the part about "the documents bag" which WAS at the docks. Its around his neck when they turn in their bananas. Details, details, details.

Btw, when Steve and Allie swam to their boat.....they did not have their documents bag when they swam. Another indication that producton was there to get their stuff to the boat all nice and dry.

They are not shown swimming with their Amazing Race documents bag, but it is on the boat as they go to the bottle recovery area. So production must have put it on the boat along with his shorts and shirt, her pants and their shoes and socks. How do I know this? Because they are wearing them all in the screencaps from Penang. I did not say, nor even imply that production went back to the turtle toddle to get their backpacks. Guess you just assumed that.

As a footnote, I have no doubt, that production did pick up their backpacks at the Turtle Toddle, to return to them AFTER they are elminated or AFTER the race is over.

If we are talking about what happened, let's do it here:

http://forum.realityfanforum.com/index.php/topic,21766.msg517295.html#msg517295

If we are talking about how the lack of a bag will affect this leg, you are welcome to do it here.

Thank you Evan and thank Yizhi for us! Always nice to have another pair of eyes on the ground! Good confirmations. Would he like to make a site visit to the road near the temples?? The running teams are still not firm...

I don't think that Khoo Kongsi is a match though, I think Neobie's Thnee Kong Thua (天公壇), or Altar of the Jade Emperor is a better photo match.

Will need to look at the beach/hotel photos too, the Mutiara looks pretty good.

The ROADBLOCK was the rocking and underwater car in JiJi. One written source indicating that it was after the SpeedBump was the basis for my statement. However, with your different facts (and they can't both be right), I went to my Amazing Race 12, episode 10 tape to settle the issue. The SpeedBump occurred after Rachel finished the ROADBLOCK, so Dr. Rox is correct on this point of fact,

Here's a video of some recent coconut smashing for the Thaipusam festival (check out the guy with the Iron Man pendant ). As Evan noted, the dates aren't in sync (they rarely are).

I would think this would be a case of upper body strength too, right?? Or is there a knack to it?? I don't think I could throw one hard enough to have it do anything but toddle down the sand, lol.

I was agreeing with you in general, not about a specific task. It would be great if production could take advantage of more local festivals, but whether it's tomato-throwing or coconut smashing, the race is stuck with its own timetable.
As far as the temple goes, I found a better picture on this page, so I'm going to go ahead and call it.

Good job on the temple!! :yess:

I was thinking it looked like some sort of little tin vials in the red tin. Is there some sort of an oil, or drink, or something that would be offered? ??? or maybe a candle?

 Pastries. Peranakan goodies!

Nice job on the coconuts! I was (virtually) running up and down the beaches looking for a Hindu temple, but I must have passed it over.

If the spice garden is the speedbump, there is an area in the gardens where you can take cooking lessons - maybe the cowboys will have to prepare and/or eat a traditional food?
