Air Seychelles appears to have flights from PRI to SEZ throughout the day from 06:15 until 20:50.

Is is possible they flew out of Praslin?

After all that island hopping, the pitstop finally ended up on Praslin.  Certainly possible....   :duno:

Praslin is a small island (1/3 the size of Victory). It does have an airport and heliport (I've seen a picture of that on the Internet):

Praslin Island Airport (airport code PRI) is located on Praslin Island in the Seychelles. The airport is currently only serviced by Air Seychelles, who fly scheduled flights to Mahé and charters to the other islands off the Seychelles. It has one runway designated 15/33 with an asphalt surface measuring 4,318 by 104 feet. (This is the limiting factor as you might be able to get a 737 into and out of Praslin airport, but where in the Indian Ocean is it going to fly to?)

Airline Destinations
Air Seychelles - Mahé (that's it)

The answer to your question is no. They only flew out of there by helicopter of plane to get to Mahe so they could leave from the Seychelles International Airport.

"And we have Dan and Jordan on MH 1138 on 12/14"

Right, I decided to present the long list of 16 Malaysian Airlines flights ( a few code-shared) KUL to PEN on Mondays:

MH9880  07:25  -  08:25
MH1134  07:35  -  08:25
MH1138  09:15  -  10:05  (there you go, Peach; this dovetails nicely with the scheduled arrival into Kuala Lumpur of either MH157 from Dubai or 3K673 from Singapore)
MH9882  10:00  -  11:00
MH1140  10:25  -  11:35
MH9930  12:20  -  13:20
MH1138  13:55  -  14:45
MH9884  14:55  -  15:55
MH1152  16:00  -  16:50
MH9886  17:30  -  18:30
MH1158  18:05  -  19:55
MH9928  18:30  -  19:30
MH1962  19:10  -  20:00
MH1164  20:20  -  21:10
MH9920  20:20  -  21:20
MH1166  21:15  -  22:05

Unless you have to carry the flag there and back, it appears that Jet and Cord are somehow in first at the roadblock...

The real question is this: When they are having taxi problems, is it in the vicinity of the Roadblock location? Because if it is, the flags could actually be part of the Detour. Or it could be the Roadblock but when they finish it they get the Detour clue. What do you all think?

I'll go out on a limb here. I am guessing that Penang is not a pit-stop at all. Teams there continues racing onwards to Singapore and one team is eliminated there.

It's not the first time TAR has pulled this off....

Also, I read somewhere that the teams took the train from Penang to Singapore. Can anyone confirm this?

Penang will be a pitstop, and seeing that there is only 1 non elimination leg left in the race, so the next 2 eliminations will be in Penang and Singapore, following by 1 of the 2 eliminations in China

and i once queried the RFFians here, there is no supportive suggestions that the teams travel by train or by plane to Singapore, so we just have to wait and watch that episode. But my best guess will be by plane.

I have no idea whether AR16 went from Penang to Singapore by train. However, I have the schedules if they did::      13:45

-
Bukit Mertajam (11 miles form Butterworth)   20:39**    -    -    -    -    -    -
 Butterworth (for Penang ferry) depart:    -    -           23:30    -    07:45    10:00    -
 Ipoh  arrive/depart     -    -                         01:19    03:39    -    10:49    14:24    -
 Kuala Lumpur (Old historic station)  arrive:   04:46    06:35    -    13:55    17:26    -
 Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral)  arrive:    -    -    04:50    06:40    -    14:00    17:30    -
 Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral)  depart:    -        04:50          08:25    14:00    -    22:30
 Tampin (for Malacca)  arrive/depart    -        xx:xx         10:03    16:14    -    23:39
 Gemas  arrive/depart    -    -                       08:10         10:56    17:07    -    00:52
 Johor Bahru  arrive:    -    -    -                                     13:48    20:11    -     05:39
 Singapore  arrive:    -    -    -                                        15:00    21:30    -    08:20

Looking only at those columns finishing in Singapore, train leave Butterworth (across the Straits of Malacca from Penang) at 0825, 1400 and 2230 to reach Singapore 6.5, 7.7 and 8 hours, respectively, later. That is less than many arduous train rides done by the Amazing Race in past seasons. They could easily have elected for lower costs to take the train.

Apskip, trains in Malaysia are painfully slow when compared to the European network... The only direct train I know of leaves Butterworth at 7.00am and arrives in Singapore at 9.30pm, a journey of 14h30. If leaving at night, there is the option of changing trains in KL Sentral, which would mean a journey from 8.24pm to 4.05pm the next day, a journey time of 19h41.

The 6.5h you mention should only be able to get you from either city to Kuala Lumpur... Would you mind sharing your source?

Buses are the much speedier option, with journey times approximating 8.5h. These leave frequently between 8.00am and 10.30am, then again from 8.30pm to 11.00pm.

I'd love a free for all. Release teams after the last direct flight to Singapore at 9.15pm, then let them choose whichever mode of transportation - train, bus or plane - they want; the first plane in the morning through Kuala Lumpur gets in at 7.05am and the 10.30pm bus at 7am...

Neobie check up this site

this could be the 6 hr 30 mins apskip is talking about: http://www.ktmb.com.my/#

I don't think the official KTMB site mentions anything about a six-hour train ride. That's precisely where I confirmed my 14h and 19h itineraries.

I believe it is physically impossible for a Malaysian train to run from Penang to Singapore in six hours.

Shall we move this discussion to the Episode Thread for the following week?

Edited to add: Aah, I found the website from which Apskip was lifting information. Looks like you've been misreading the columns! You are quoting the travel times from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.

153 steps is very little - nothing taller than seven storeys! There's got to be an additional portion to the task that we don't know of yet...

(My first thought was Kek Lok Si, but I think there may be way more steps there than 153.)

Hey all. I can share this with you all if it matters much at all. Being from the Penang island myself, there isn't that many tall buildings around to do a 153-step climb up. One I suspect is the one that's called KOMTAR, Penang's tallest building and 6th tallest in Malaysia. The building itself is a 65-storey tower, and I would think the detour requires a climb up the building and some other "chores" as well.

Besides, the chingay field and KOMTAR is just about 5 minutes apart by car.

It needs to be close to Padang Kota Lama (flag field), right? Only a couple of structures I see nearby--the Jubilee clock tower and the fort lighthouse--but neither look tall enough. I agree with Neobie: there must be a catch.

152 steps>> this is very interesting because this is where we have the tourist video of teams arriving and quickly leaving, as though they were at the wrong place...perhaps to get to the steps they have to go around to another side or something??
