I think peoples' understanding of what is the 'disaster curse' has been lost to the sands somewhere.

It was originally (as far as I know) a reference to the fact that multiple locations had been visited for filming, and then nearly immediately after been hit with a disaster before airing. At least three of these got special messages in the episodes (Sri Lanka, Louisiana, Chile).

But now the thread is just reduced to "TAR was in Malaysia like 5 months ago and now something bad happened there! CURSE!!!"

Like all the countries around the tropics are prone to natural hazards and TAR generally visits at least 1 country in this region per season.

San Antonio de Areco was under water for the last two weeks. Due to the heavy rains in the Province of Buenos Aires the river Areco overflowed and the subsequent flood cut the access to the city through the routes 8 y 9. There was people evacuated and material damages.
Luckily the waters are now receding and the situation is getting back to normality.

:ascared  And so the curse continues.... or at least a coincidence.

According to the latest news today, the Hindu Erawan Shrine in Central Bangkok Thailand was rocked by a large explosion.  Can't recall if this shrine was visited by a recent TAR season.  Need to check the archives.  Either way, traveling around the world can be dangerous sometimes.  :(

Yeah, I believe it visited back in Season 2.

The bomb is really dangerous and lots of people were dead and injured because it happened in the Central Bangkok where lots of skytrain and public transportation is crowded. Especially in Bangkok, they're very strict about the checking right now. Lots of cop patrol around and check car. The schools even take a break tomorrow in the area of Bangkok. :(

Only a small handful of locations have had a tragic event between the time of filming and broadcast; and oddly enough, 9/11 in NYC counts due to the final leg of that first season although that one wasn't acknowledged on air by the show.

The disaster curse shouldn't be applied in any other scenario.

I don't buy in to a TAR disaster curse, but I'll mention the latest big earthquake here. About an hour ago, there was an 8.3 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chile. It was located about 150 miles northwest of Santiago and some hundreds of miles Southwest of Iquique. Early reports say there are no reports of damage or injury, but I imagine that communications are a mess at this time. There are also tsunami warnings out for Chile and Peru and watches for much of the Pacific islands, including Hawaii.

My best wishes and prayers go out to the Chilean people and I hope it all turns out to be a minor incident.

There isn't a lot to go on but, but if tsunami waves have formed, the various monitoring stations for the Pacific will have that soon. 8.3 is a very powerful earthquake and at this point it all depends on how the energy from the quake is translated into the ocean wave action.

My hopes and prays go out to the people in Chile, and my prayers that everyone in the Pacific remains safe.

While 10-foot waves were reported at one offshore buoy near Chile, as a whole the wide areas affected are forecast to see not more than three feet waves, including southern California (LA and Santa Barbara), Hawaii, and American Samoa. Most of these are expected to reach these areas after midnight local times, and the affected areas include Antarctica(!) and French Polynesia. The advisories I've seen from the National Weather Service are cautioning for both tidal action and rip currents. Let's just hope that people take no chances and evacuate to higher ground until the all clear is given.

Sending condolences and prayers of safety for Paris residents and innocent visitors. Clearly, more needs to be done to resolve the issue. This has been the umpteenth terror incident in 2015 for the city. :(

Great sense of sadness for those shot or wounded. If anything sends TAR back to the bench, it will be having the entire world become unsafe for travelers, so let's hope that scenario can be avoided.

The president of France François Hollande declare two things in a speech:
- The frontiers of France are now closed
- The Emergency state is pronounced for the entire country.

What a shock for France...

I woke up and this is what's on the morning news.

Hopefully everything gets ok but if they are closing borders and enacted a curfew, it must be serious.

I got out my house and there was 18 possible deads. Maybe two hours later I hear 60 people confirmed dead. Borders are now closed and there were 7 points of attacks and a hostage  situation. What is happening? This is so wrong. I feel sad... I hope everyone stays safe as the night goes on.
