'Survivor: Amazon' contestants revealed
By JOHN POWELL Jam! Showbiz
Beating Internet sleuthes to the punch this time around, CBS revealed the 16 new 'Survivor: Amazon' castaways today on the "Early Show." The contestants range in age from 21 to 56 and come from all walks of life, including an honest-to-goodness rocket scientist and a sexy swimsuit model.

In a twist unlike any on previous editions of "Survivor," the tribes will start the game as men vs. women. The series is set to debut with a special 90-minute episode on Thursday, Feb. 13 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT).

The two tribes this time around are:

The Jaburu Tribe ("Jaburu" refers to a bird or stork that is native to the area) wearing yellow buffs will consist of:

Christy Smith, a 24-year-old children's adventure guide from Basalt, Colorado.

Deena Bennett, a 35-year-old Deputy District Attorney from Riverside, California.

Heidi Strobel, a 24-year-old gym teacher from Eldon, Missouri.

Janet Koth, a 47-year-old homemaker from Manchester, Missouri.

Jeanne Herbert, a 41-year-old marketing director from North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Jenna Morasca, a 21-year-old swimsuit model from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Joanna Ward, 31-year-old school guidance counselor from Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Shawna Mitchell, 23-year-old retail saleswoman from Redwood City, California.

The Tambaqui Tribe ("Tambaqui" meaning a local fish) wearing blue buffs will consist of:

Alex Bell, a 32-year-old triathalon coach from Los Angeles, California.

Butch Lockley, a 50-year-old school principal from Olney, Illinois.

Daniel Lue, a 27-year-old tax accountant from Houston, Texas.

Dave Johnson, a 24-year-old rocket scientist from Pasadena, California .

Matthew Von Ertfelda, a 33-year-old restaurant designer from Washington, DC.

Rob Cesternino, a 24-year-old computer projects coordinator from Wantagh, New York.

Roger Sexton, a 56-year-old construction company executive from Valencia, California.

Ryan Aiken, a 23-year-old model from Ellicott City, Maryland.

Some interesting notes about the new "Survivors": Christy Smith is partially deaf and uses a hearing aid. Roger Sexton is a Vietnam veteran. Jenna Morasca's past work includes posing for "Stuff Magazine". Von Ertfelda was one of People Magazine's Top 50 Bachelors in 2002. Hebert is proud that she leapt up on stage at the Boston Fleet Center and sang a song with Alanis Morrisette in front of 17,000 concert-goers. Daniel Lue, a pro-wrestling fan, was one of the top 25 applicants for the first WWF Tough Enough reality show.

CBS reports that snakes, piranhas, alligators, tropical storms, humid conditions and natives who aren't too friendly to outsiders are some of the obstacles the Survivors will face in the Amazon Rainforest.

CBS has launched an open casting call for "Survivor 7." Applications must be submitted by February 11th and the series will be filmed in June and July of this year. "Survivor 7" will likely debut in September.

90 minutes eh?  That will be good.  A very nice mix of almost famous people on Survivor.  Looking forward to it.
