Celebrity Amazing Race
« on: January 13, 2010, 05:57:12 PM »
The producers have meantioned that they have no plans to do another All Stars, but with Surviour having Heroes versus Villans, does the Amazing Race need a one off season, say a Celebrity Amazing Race?

I expect that those following me may also express their extreme disgust at any Celebrity Amazing Race.

The current level of celebrity suits me quite well.

Its all about the money really - would a celebrity version attract enough advertisers to make it worthwhile? I think it would work as long as it wasn't too contrived.

How about a mini 5 leg celebrity TAR version to fill in between regular TAR seasons?

The possibilities are endless for various themes:
Soap stars - they could start in Genoa City Wisconson and end in Peyton Place
Beauty Queens - lets take all the beauty queens and give them their own season - that way we don't have to see them in the regular TAR.
Politicians - maybe not - who would watch?
Ex sitcom stars - Friends cast vs. Seinfeld cast
Sports celebrities - broadcasters vs players, golfers vs. ex wives
Playboy bunnies (are they called bunnies or playmates now?)
ex-American Idol contestants
CSI stars
From there to here, and here to there,
funny things are everywhere

I wouldn't mind seeing Larry David on The Amazing Race. He seems like the kind of person that could make us all laugh while sleep deprived in a blizzard in Siberia.

I think that a purely celebrity series would be the death of TAR, IMO.

You're probably right, its the trend of a reality show to run a celebrity edition in a final effort to get viewers up before it dies.

Yuck. No way. We have too many "celebrities" already. :groan:

Okay but sooner or later TAR will be cancelled so if it was to continue, surely they would need to have another All Stars or some kind of one off series to pick up the ratings. In the tradition of Surviours Heroes v Villans, what would you suggest would be a good theme for a TAR Series?

All Male v All Female teams?
Rich v Poor?
Best of Surviour v Best of Big Brother?
Beauty Queens/Cheerleader v Male Frats/Mactors?
NBA v NFL?
Christian v Atheist?
Vegans v Vegetarians?

TAR: World Edition would be my pick if they had to do a one off.

Get the best racers from every edition and put them all together in one big race... And I get to go too.

Being from Australia like yourself, I would agree with a world edition! But its never going to happen, just count yourself lucky that Channel 7 in Australia hasn't produced their own version with David Koch or Ernie Dingo being the host! Just look what they did with Australian Surviour... died a quick death.

I never saw Australian Surviver, but the rundown of the first half of Leg 1 of TAR9 (which was spread over 2 weeks) was abysmal.

Australian Survivor was awful. The entire thing turned into a giant promo for assorted sodas and phones.

Australian Celebrity Survivor was even worse.

I wouldn't mind if they localized TAR and it only lasted one or two seasons, as long as I got to be on it of course.

I like the World Edition, but wait a few years so that I can be eligible from Australia, OK?!! :neener:

I would really love another All-Stars, but that's just my opinion. How awesome would a race with Kynt & Vyxsin, Terence & Sarah, Jaime & Cara and all of our other amazing recent teams be!

Bring back the Beekeepers! :wohoo: :hearts:

However, I wouldn't be too excited about the idea of a 'Celebrity' Edition, although, as mentioned, that's what it basically is anyway, these days. (:;)
I'd rather walk alone than let them throw dirty confetti. ♥

NO MORE CELEBRITIES!! There's too many already!

Bring back more of the average joe's and jane's

But, I feel the recent batch of epicness in the teams department is just asking for an eventual All-Stars 2
(especially from Season 14. I could see 5 out of the top 6 teams being major contendors for an All-Star edition)

Ew, yuck, no! No more exposure to them, please. :groan:

I see only two of those top 5 teams as options. Along with the 3 teams from about 9th-7th place who were ROBBED.

If I could choose the second All-Stars cast (if it were TAR 16, though I know it won't be), here's what I would go with:

Kris & Jon
Lena & Kristy
Ronald & Christina
Azaria & Hendekea
Ken & Tina
Toni & Dallas
Mark & Bill
Amanda & Kris
Jamie & Cara
Zev & Justin
Herbert & Nathaniel

So it would be a collection of fan favorites as well as teams who were ROBBED the first time! :jumpy:

How about a TAR with just the first teams eliminated. We get to see a bit more of them, they get to see a bit more of the world.

Also a great idea! We've had an All-Stars, now let's do an Also-Rans! :jumpy:

Only 11th or 12th placers are eligible, and it would be based on whether they want to or not. I think most of the teams would, given their short initial races. But the first team out would truly have an awful overall TAR experience.

The first leg could be a non-elimination leg, so they at least get two episodes.

The solution! :jam:

So true...nearly all of them had great potential.
