Just dawned on me

"Valparaiso, the San Francisco of South America"! to "San Francisco, North America"  :cmas19

I thought about that last night.

I've been lurking here for awhile, but I saw this posted today on another reality TV forum:

I saw what I think was an AR crew filming just now (noon PST) on California Street in San Francisco. Was nearly toppled by a man running with a handheld camera. He stopped at California and Larkin to capture the image of two men (I think) walking with a large locked trunk. They were walking towards Polk Street. May investigate further while I buy a pizza slice.

Teams were sighted in San Francisco on December 20th, where they had to scale the Coit Tower. It is believed that this is one of their final tasks to complete before heading to the currently-unidentified finish line.

Hi!  :xmas49

You guys are great at this, and I have the urge give you all shiny gold badges. I post over at Reality TV Games, and I post the your amazing detective work.

Anyway, back on topic, a member posted this:

OIC!! Apperantly I saw Phil in Dubai! He was on the same flight with me to Malaysia~! I didn't get to met him cause he went in so fast.

And I think I saw some camera crew around the KL airport.

http://www.rtvgames.com/showpost.php?p=1136816&postcount=28

I asked her when this was, she said it was on the 12th. I doubt that they went to Dubai a 2nd time in a row, so possibly a connection from another city?

:welcome: howie!!

This is SUCH a help...could you possibly get the flight number??

Here are the Dubai to KL flights on the 12th:

KUL Kuala Lumpur EK 346  Emirates dep: 3:10 AM  (actual)3:45 AM  T-3  Landed

KUL Kuala Lumpur EK 342  Emirates dep: 10:30 AM  (actual) 10:45 AM  T-3  Landed

KUL Kuala Lumpur MH 155    Malaysia Airline dep: 6:35 PM  (actual) 7:09 PM  T-1

KUL Kuala Lumpur IY 862    Yemen Airways 11:50 PM  12:09 AM

If you can help narrow down the flight used, we can try for a connection. Many African connections  to Dubai (including Jo-burg) ARE VERY possible.

This is confusing me because I am seeing these tweets isn't the race over?

Just went through customs on San Francisco, standing in line with two guys from Amazing Race and their camera crew.    about 2 hours ago   from Echofon

and another one

Storm Troopers are escorting 'Amazing Race' contestants through the Letterman Digital Arts Center    27 minutes ago   from txt

We believe that the crews are arriving from Shanghi and might explain the camera crews with equipment. More on that later.
No idea what the Digital Arts Center thing is about?  :cmas5

Letterman Digital Arts Center is one of the homes of Industrial Light and Magic. It's located on the site of the former Letterman Army Hospital at the Presidio. It's not too far from the Golden Gate Bridge as well.

Since George Lucas owns ILM, I'm sensing a Star Wars task (hence the Star Wars Storm Troopers).  Or possibly just a movie special effect task. Or even just a disturbance in the force.  :cmas19

I decided to look at all nonstop flights into Dubai from Africa. The database for the exact time period teams might have done this is not readily available, so I worked with the 3 day + 8 hour time frame of Sat. 0915 to tomorrow at 1700. Here are the instances of nonstop flights Africa to Dubai:

Lagos 8
Johannesburg 8
Khartoum 6
Nairobi 5
Tunis 4
Cairo 4
Alexandria 3
Addis Ababa 3
Tripoli 3
Djibouti 3
Seychelles
Durban 2
Abidjan 2
Durban 2
CapeTown 2
Entebbe 2
Mauritius 2
Male Maldives 2
Lome 1
Luanda 1

I don't think this information provides much insight into precisely where teams might have left Africa from, assuming they were there (a decent assumption in my opinion)

I agree! Sadly its hard to get sightings from Africa *sigh* but you never know what might turn up before FEB 14th. We need one good lead, even a smidge, something to search... damn

Here's a new tweet from jenbakerbrown:

the two guys we saw were young and wearing cowboy hats. The officer at customs told me they were from Amazing Race.

She didn't mention the cowboys earlier, so this is some confirmation that they are in the final three.

But what about in other Middle Eastern cities that have connecting fights from Dubai like Bahrain, Qatar or even Amman, JORDAN (btw, there's such thing as the country of Jordan on that region) which are possible places for TAR 16?  To know more about some of the connecting flights from Dubai, see this website from Emirates: http://www.emirates.com/ph/English/flash/route_map.aspx

Then I'll make a speculation post on places might have visited for TAR 16, right now on TAR 16 speculation section.

The Amazing Race 16 in Singapore

Filming of the new season of The Amazing Race had been spotted in SG! at the flyer and in Bugis - read it in the papers yesterday and my mum actually saw one team doing the challenge in Bugis that day...

makes me anticipate the next season even more! =)

Had a lovely followup note:

Quote
i'm afraid she didn't take any pictures, cause she had no idea it's the AMAZING RACE till she saw the picture in the newspaper report! i so wanted to be there too!

well, according to her, there were 2 females, should be wearing grey though she wasn't really sure now. They were selling ice cream and it was about 11+ am. =)

And yes, before y'all ask, photos have been sent!!

My guess is the short haired women in grey camo.

Since Phil and one of the teams were flying from Dubai as a transit point coming from either the Middle-East or Africa, these are the countries from that region that I think the race must have visited.
-Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Seychelles, Djibouti, Libya, Comoros, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Israel, Turkey, Cyprus, and Azerbaijan.  Europe is also a good chance maybe from Greece, Bosnia, Russia, Macedona, Montenegro, Albania, Slovenia, Italy, Malta, Slovakia, Belarus, Moldova, Bulgaria, and Denmark.  One of these countries must have gotten a visit from the race.  Three of these countries are the legs between South America and Asia. I am hoping something like a blog, eyewittness, or tweet from those places could verify if the race visited them.

Interesting.... surely given the animation/FX community in SF, someone must surely know someone, who knows someone, who works at Lucasfilm...  maybe they heard of some visitors....  :groan:

just read the cycling clothes article......does this meant Phil was in New Zealand on the 17th?

Untouched World goes cycling
NBR staff | Friday December 18 2009 - 10:00am

an exerpt....

The line already had a fan in kiwi Phil Keoghan, host of Emmy-award winning The Amazing Race, the letter said.

“Six hours in the gear yesterday and now rushing out to ride another six. Love the wool, breathes very well, good for temperature control and comfortable. We got caught in the rain again today, I was warm as toast,” Mr Keoghan said.

That's a previous endorsement is all.

But we know already where they went after Singapore...they went to Shanghai. There is something about Nanking road as well. Teams arrived in San Fran via Shanghai. It's all scattered around, but it is all here somewhere.
