Joab

I didn't even try and post the fast nationals for this week due to the huge, huge overrun.

When they report early numbers they go off the East Coast, Midwest air time, thus int his case the numbers should go up in finals (out today) due to West Coast numbers (for 915-10:15 are actually for the show THree Rivers (which doesn't perform well).

We should be over 10 million and over a 3.0 in the adult demo when finals are out.  Not bad when we are in full competition with NBC Football and Desperate Housewives.

And in realtionship to the rest of Sunday, we are the networks strongest sunday show.

And these weekly numbers don't include all of the DVR Time-Shifting within one week. We can assume that it's less than one million, but signficant enough to make an impact on the demos. But clearly put TAR's audience well over 11 million so far this year.

(But I can't imagine what the DVR numbers were like Sunday.)

Most of TAR DVR use is during its first night (Sunday night).  And sites used to report the increase from its live viewing to its final live plus 7.

But this year most sites are reported just the gain from Live Same day (normal final numbers which do include that days DVR use) to final Live Plus 7.

Here is an example from last year.  Episode 8.

Final numbers (live Same Day) 10.572 million viewers

Live viewers (people who watched only off the broadcast) 9.335 million

Live Plus 7  11.285 million viewers

Last year sites would have reported that DVR added 1.952 million viewers (we ranked 3rd overall in shows that had the highest percentage of DVR use during the same day).

Now this year all the data for that same episode would rate  an increase of 713,000 because they are no longer separting the DVR use from the first day.  Just the gains from days 2-7.

And so we are no longer going to see data for us on total viewers from DVR.  But its not a bad thing.  Frankly studiso earn nothing after the 3rd day.  So they want as many people as possible watching during that first day.

And TAR doesn't do that well in that regard

Football messed up the schedule (I'm on the West Coast :yess:). Three Rivers needs to go.

I really hope that TAR improves. TWOP and EW posters aren't too pleased with the tasks lately...

I'm just reading my tvguide and they think the same for Three Rivers, its not drawing the younger audience they were hoping from The Amazing Race lead in. They give it a 50/50 chance.

Yeah three rivers is toast.  The only real question is if it will be cancelled before November sweeps.

It's shocking to see how CBS dominates the top 20 (though only ratings matter in the end). If only TAR could get it's rating to a 3.0 or higher, we'd be set (since CBS Sunday nights are so weak).

Are adults 18-49 is currently over 3.0.  Only one week this season has been below that.

Also at this same point we have higher ratings in viewers and demos then the last two cycles of the show (at the same time).

We were 28th this last week in adults 18-49.  Not bad, considering CBS sunday as the oldest average aged viewer of not only any night on television, but any network on television.

With no national NFL lead-in tonight along with Sunday Night Football involving the Giants-Arizona plus Game 6 of the American League Championship Series between the Yankees and Angels, I expect the ratings for tonight's episode to be quite low. The NY market will be split amongst Yanks and Giants plus ALCS ratings have been close to blockbuster for Fox.

If TAR gets above a 5 tonight, I'll be surprised.

I also expect this to be one of the lowest ratings for us this season.

HOLY CRAP

Fast Nationals (and without a major overrunthese should be close.

60 minutes 12.23  million viewers and a 2.1 in adults 18-49
TAR  10.98 (season high) in viewers 3.2 in adults 18-49
Three Rivers  7.90 million viewers 1.8 in adults 18-49
Cold Case 8.81 million viewers 1.7 in adults 18.49

TAR did absolutely great last night.  Best performance of the season in total viewers and a very nice adult 18-49 performance.  Both are up year to year from 9.7 million viewers and a 2.9 in adults 18-49.

With heavy sports competition, that's a big surprise. Great news.

Next week, World Series Game 4 with another Fox NFL doubleheader.

variety makes it look better

At CBS, "60 Minutes" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 12.2 million viewers overall) opened the night with below-average numbers opposite the Fox football overrun, but "Amazing Race" (3.2/8 in 18-49, 11.8 million viewers overall) built sharply on that lead-in among young adults. The net then fell off, though, with dramas "Three Rivers" (1.8/4 in 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall) and "Cold Case" (1.7/4 in 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall).

Considering how everything after TAR on Sundays sorta sucks in the ratings, I think CBS should at least go back to 13 TAR legs per season (they might want to bring back the old race designers). TAR is still cheaper than the other dramas there.

They really could can Three Rivers, I tuned out to watch the Yankees then recorded Cold Case. No matter woohooo TAR! CBS has to take note!! ......you know they really really made a mistake cancelling Without a Trace, I read that the summer reruns were getting high ratings so embarrassed CBS pulled it from the summer schedule, AIN'T that a kick in the head? okay rant off  :hearts:

I honestly don't understand having a shorter season.  Fr every season its been on Sunday its been the strongest demo performer (and thus the strongest money maker for CBS on Sunday).  I mean seriously how expensive is the show to produce?

And considering Sunday Night Football is the most expensive primetime program for ads, CBS is charging at rate that seems to be a bargain in comparison!

I've been busy today, but I did see the fast overnight numbers as posted at TFC (and CBS did not put out a press release today for some reason), but the fact that the numbers went from almost 11 million to almost 12 even without the final numbers that are used for the weekly list on Tuesday is a real surprise.

As to the CBS decision to cancel "Without A Trace," it wasn't based so much on ratings but the fear CBS has that all of their Bruckheimer shows have been on the network for a long time, and the fear that the audiences would start to decline dramatically and CBS would not have any younger series to build their audiences on.

There were two problems with that in my mind. First, while CBS has been lucky with Ghost Whisperer, The Mentalist and Flashpoint, they have commissioned some real turkeys as well -- Viva Laughlin in particular, and Three Rivers seems to be another turkey.

What I've seen in the numbers is that Three Rivers has lost up to 50 per cent of TAR's numbers every week; and while Cold Case is able to pull back almost half of those, it's in a bad time slot to keep the numbers they had the last two years following TAR directly.

I hope that at a minimum, CBS switches the time slots for Cold Case and Three Rivers, if not cancel Three Rivers outright. Oddly enough, Cold Case is another show that I like to watch, and I basically am doing other things during that hour that Three Rivers is on. It really does not interest me. As to Sunday Night Football, if the Dolphins were on, I might watch it, but I find it hard to watch 6 football games in one weekend. By the time I get to Sunday night, I really don't have the patience to watch another game. (And I do love football, but that sixth game is overkill. I much preferred it with the broadcast night game was on Monday night.)
