Victoria Beckham to be Idol judge?
« on: August 06, 2009, 08:12:04 PM »
Victoria Beckham is set to become a judge on 'American Idol'.

The 35-year-old star has reportedly been approached by the show's producer Simon Fuller - who managed the Spice Girls and is an advisor to Victoria's husband David - about replacing Paula Abdul on the popular US TV series.

Paula revealed she was quitting yesterday (05.08.09). It is believed she made the decision following a row over pay.

Victoria - whose spouse David has had heated exchanges with angry Los Angeles Galaxy supporters since expressing his wish to join a European club - is due to begin filming auditions for the new series tomorrow (07.08.09).

A source said: 'Victoria is hugely flattered as this is one of the highest profile shows in America. It is a really big deal. Her husband David may be having a hard time at the moment but Victoria's profile Stateside has never been higher.

'The show needs a big star. It would be an incredible coup to get her. She was in one of the biggest girl groups in history so she knows what she is talking about. Simon Fuller is now speaking to her.'

It is believed Victoria - who has launched a career as a fashion designer since quitting the music industry - has agreed a fee of £155,000 to appear in two episodes of American Idol'.

However, show bosses are hoping they can persuade her to take on the role permanently.

The source added: 'Network bosses would love to give her the job full-time and it looks like it is there for her if she wants it. But at the moment, Victoria's main priority is fashion. She doesn't really need any distractions. She will be back at New York fashion week in September to launch her 2010 collection.

'However, Victoria's appearance on 'American Idol' is sure to provide a massive ratings boost in the UK so everyone's a winner.'

'American Idol' - which is hosted by Ryan Seacrest and judged by Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi - is the most popular show in the US. The last series attracted an average of 26 million viewers per episode.

This isn't the first time the 35-year-old star has been linked to a talent show.

Earlier this year, Victoria was said to be in 'advanced talks' about becoming a judge on UK TV talent series 'The X Factor'.

Home Celebs 3am Victoria Beckham thrilled to be joining American Idol

She's thrilled to be joining American Idol - but don't expect Victoria Beckham to swap that pout for a smile.

Days after we revealed that Posh was going to step into Paula Abdul's Louboutins on the hit reality talent show, she has called to tell us about her judging style.

Victoria, 35, tells us: "I am beyond excited. When I heard, I just couldn't believe it.

"I feel like I've got the best job that there is. I'm just so happy and I can't wait. I was in bed on Wednesday when I got the text from Simon Fuller saying: 'You're going to Denver'."

When she arrived at a downtown Denver hotel yesterday before the first round of auditions, scores of onlookers crowded around taking photos.

She said: "I'm a big fan of the show - I come to the shows with the kids and David loves it. I'm just so grateful to be given such a fantastic opportunity.

"I'm still grinning from ear to ear.

Posh to be offered huge payday for American Idol

Victoria Beckham may be offered 3-million-pound payday if she becomes a full time judge on American Idol, sources say.

The maker of the show Simon Fuller and judge Simon Cowell have reportedly decided to go ahead with the decision to launch the former Spice Girl as judge after two trial auditions.

"The producers and judges loved her and she loved being part of the show. But she’s got a lot on and her priority is fashion and her family, not getting a full-time job," the News of the World quoted a source close to the celebrity as saying.

However, her skinny look and British accent could still be a last hurdle. Bosses at Fox apparently want to check if she can really connect with the audience.

An industry source said: "American Idol is the highest rated show and they don’t want to pick a judge viewers don’t take to. Focus groups are going to be set up to judge Victoria’s performance.

"There’s some concern about whether viewers will think she’s too skinny. They’re also worried about her accent. She’s started to talk in a very posh voice and some people might struggle with that."

However, suggestively, show creator Fuller wants the stunner to replace Paula Abdul.

The source added: "Victoria is the clear favourite because of Simon Fuller’s influence. She wasn’t her best at her first audition but Fuller, who is her manager and the creator of Idol, convinced her to come back.

"She was a revelation at the second audition and is now top of the list to permanently replace Paula."

Victoria Beckham is a style icon for many, but her recent appearance as the judge on ‘American Idol’ has left many thinking otherwise. Victoria Beckham(AP Photo) More Pics

The usually immaculately dressed star left fans shocked when she reportedly looked downright awful on her arrival for filming the talent show.

Posh was sporting way too much make up, bizarre hair and a gross lace Alice band as she made her way into the studios in Boston.

It was her second appearance as a guest judge on the show, after the departure of Paula Abdul, reports the Mirror.

Meanwhile, the dress is one of her own designs, a red version of 2,095 pounds Carmontelle cashmere-blend dress.

Victoria Beckham turns down 'Idol' for fashion?
Victoria Beckham has reportedly turned down an offer to return to American Idol as she wants to concentrate on her fashion career.

It is believed that Victoria Beckham has turned down an offer to reprise her one-off judging role on American Idol to focus on her fashion career.

Although many criticised her rigid performance on the show, it's been reported that producers were impressed and offered her the opportunity to film a second stint for the reality talent show.

However, a source told Metro: "It is unlikely she will do any more due to getting her new collection ready for New York Fashion Week."

Many believed that Posh was being lined up to take over Paula Abdul's judging chair on the show, but this now seems unlikely.

Fashion has long been Victoria's focus and she doesn’t want to jeopardize her career when it is going in the right direction.

Do you think Posh would make a good judge? Who should replace Paula Abdul? Use our comment system to tell us.
