In the limo on the way back to the model home from last week's elimination, Jennifer admits to Erin that she knew Erin was going to be in the bottom two. Erin agrees, and was disappointed that she couldn't hold it together during the commercial. Brittany says that she is different than the other girls in the house, being 21, she feels she is more well-rounded.
When the limo pulls up to the house, there is "danger" tape across the front entrance, and the girls enter to find people in hazardous material suits working to clean up the house. The girls see Tyra spray-painting "Condemed" onto the wall. She says that this is the most disgusting Top Model house that she's ever seen. She says they can't live there anymore, because they are moving to... (she opens the sliding door, and there are Hawaiian dancers in the backyard) Hawaii! The girls scream and clap, and celebrate with a quick Hawaiian snack before Tyra tells them that they need to go pack their bags right away.
The Top Model plane takes off, and the next we see the girls is as they are landing in Maui. The bus takes them to their Hawaiian home, which is gorgeous. They scout out all the rooms and find big screen TVs in each one with Jennifer's winning commercial playing on each one. And, what do you know... there is a Bankable safe here, and of course... Tyra mail!
"If you want to catch a break, you're going to have to go out there and get it. -- Love, Tyra"
The girls make their way to the first challenge, where they wind up on a beach with six surfboards. They meet a man and woman by the boards. The man introduces the woman as Sofia Beschen, who is a petite model. Sofia then introduces the man as Buzzy Kerbox, who is a surfing champion. Sofia says that Tyra wants the girls to learn how to surf. The girls each try to hang ten, and Sundai and Brittany have success fairly early. Most of them end up able to stand on the boards for at least a short time.
Soon the girls are back on dry land again, when two surfers come over to them and ask if they'd like to go surfing, but before they can answer, Mr. Jay comes up behind them, and reminds them that they're there for a competition, not a vacation. He says that they'll be doing a photo shoot challenge that afternoon. The girls will be surfing tandem with the two surfers that came up to them, while they are photographed. The girls will have to bring balance and poise to the photos. The photographer is Erik Aeder, who is a reknown photographer in Hawaii.
The girls each seem to do fairly well. Everyone is able to get up on the board, but the winner is Erin. She wins a helicopter ride of the island of Maui, and she gets to pick two friends to take with her. She picks Brittany and Nicole. The girls go up and really enjoy the tour flying over the island, but Erin complains that she really wanted a more tangible prize. What an ingrate!
When they get back, they're asked how it was, and Erin whines again, that while she liked it, but she really would have liked to have won something tangible, like jewelry, or a dinner, or $1,000 gift certificate from WalMart. Sundai can't believe that Erin is acting like that. She says any other one of them would have been thrilled to have won that, and she thinks Erin is a spoiled brat.
Time for some more Tyra Mail!
"Sometimes being all mixed up is a beautiful thing. -- Love, Tyra"
Poor Laura is totally sunburned after their photoshoot surfing, and Jennifer helps her apply more sunscreen. Laura seems worried that she won't do as well in the upcoming photoshoot due to the sunburn.
The next day the girls take the bus to a sugarcane plantation. Sundai says that some of the plants were tall, and some were on fire, and she wonders what they'll have to do now. She thinks it will be something crazy, because they're in Hawaii.
Mr. Jay greets them and says they'll be working with Tyra on their photo shoot. Tyra says that she's never photographed the models twice in a Cycle before, but that these girls really inspire her, so she made an exception. She tells them that the story of the photoshoot revolves around Hawaii having so many people from different cultures, and that the girls will have to portray a bi-racial person in their photoshoot. Their nationalities are as follows:
Laura - Mexican and Greek
Erin - Tibetean and Egyptian
Sundai - Moroccan and Russian
Brittany - Native American and East Indian
Jennifer - Botswanan and Polynesian
Nicole - Malagasi and Japanese
Erin is first, and Tyra thinks she's too posey. Laura has a hard time at first, and Tyra isn't liking it. Laura tells Tyra to be brutally honest, and when Tyra told her she would like to see something similar to what she did in the Vegas shoot, Laura knew what to do, and rocked it. Nicole is next, and she is also doing a great job with her famous poses. Tyra says she doesn't even recognize her. She looks *SO* different with the dark makeup and the dark hair and wrap on her head. Jennifer is next, and Tyra is uninspired. They tell her to think of the Botswanan music, and Jennifer comes alive. Brittany has a bit of a hard time getting into the character, and just seems to stand there looking off to the side. Mr. Jay liked it, but Tyra didn't. Finally Sundai gets her chance to shine. She does a great job, and Tyra mentions the fact that her bone structure truly shows off the Russian side of her nationality.
Time for the box of death
"Tomorrow you will meet with the judges. Only 5 will continue on in the hopes of becoming America's Next Top Model."
And now, prepare to be judged
Tyra greets the girls and recites the prizes, and introduces the judges -- Nigel Barker, Miss J. and supermodel Kirsty Hume.
Jennifer is up first, and Nigel says that the photo reminds him of a National Geographic pose. It's great, but doesn't scream model. Kirsty says the angle of her body isn't the best that it could be, but she looks beautiful. They remark that she is definitely selling the lovely necklace she is wearing, however, which is a good thing.
Laura is next. Nigel says that looking at the shot, he doesn't see Laura, but on the closeup, it's stunning. Kirsty loves it as well.
Erin is next. Miss J says it's interesting. Nigel asks her what she was thinking. She admits that she knows nothing about Tibet, except that people want to "free" it. Tyra says it's the polar opposite of her first shoot with her. She asks Erin what was wrong, and Erin admits she was intimidated, thinking of what Tyra had said before about her not having a personality.
Brittany is next. Nigel says it's very stoic, and not very animated. Kirsty is not impressed. Tyra feels that she was shooting a catalog picture.
Sundai is next. Again, they are saying Sundai seems to always have one angle (a three-quarter shot), but that she has mastered it. Nigel says it's the best he's seen of her. Kirsty says it's a beautiful, but she looks round. Tyra thinks she looks short.
Last is Nicole. Nigel says it's stunning. Tyra thinks she's modeling H-to-T (head to toe), even though you can't see her toes. They're impressed that she didn't lose her neck, even with wearing the very large necklace.
After the judges deliberate, the callouts go as follows:
Nicole
Jennifer
Laura
Sundai
Brittany and Erin are in the bottom two. So, who will go home? Brittany, or Erin, who was in the bottom two last week? It's Brittany who is going home.
Next week, supermodel Marisa Miller gives the girls a class on modeling for petites. Then, while underwater, Laura has some problems breathing and starts hyperventillating.
