AR15 Flights and Transportation Information
« Reply #1 on: July 24, 2009, 10:53:14 AM »
Here's a thread for the new season, the same as last season's but TIMELINES will be separate.

I am going to start it off with the trans-Pacific flights departing LAX Saturday afternoon for arrival Tokyo Sunday afternoon:

AA169 1245 1600 LAX NRT
UA891 1313 1630 LAX NRT

There is likely to be another set of flights somewhere on Monday or Tuesday but we don't know where to yet.

From that place the next set of flights is to HoChiMinh City. I have flight information from Osaka, Okinawa and Taipei but it wwe need to know thte starting point before this can be clarified.

On Thursday or Friday teams apparently flew from HoChiMinh City to Phnom Penh. Here are the potential flights:

VN 670 0730 0820
VN 817 1225 1315
VN 840 1415 1455
VN 819 1800 1850

No thanks, Kogs and Peach. Please read what I wrote:

"teams apparently flew from HoChiMinh City to Phnom Penh". Now that's pretty clear on the tentative (some might say speculative) nature of it.

This indicates the not-certain nature of this information. Should conflicting information be validated (such as they didn't go to Phnom Penh) then adjustments will be made retroactively.

Based on the move by presumably one of our moderators to alter my title for this thread against my wishes, they can post about AR15 transportation information here.

What if in the spirit of cost-cutting, they have two legs in Tokyo (or surrounding areas)? The city is surely large enough to accommodate two legs, particularly if they went to lesser known destinations.

It's speculative until there are photographic evidence. A group of 100 people (who has nothing better to do) can come together and make a joke by posting online about how they say Britney and Justin Timberlake racing, which after so many sightings.. will definitely lead to people believing they are racing.. if the 2 of them are part of the joke themselves and hide their status for as long as the race goes.

Well, since there isn't any time for an extra leg between yesterday's Phnom Penh leg (25 Jun) and today's sighting (26 Jun), I'm thinking our 2 teams in Suvarnabhumi are on:
PG 934 from Phnom Penh to Bangkok, 1530-1640

Leading to a sighting at 5pm, Bangkok time. Nothing else from Phnom Penh fits.

No way in hell they'd finish at 2-3am, so we've got a somewhat extended Pit Stop in Cambodia. Looks like Phil bailed Cambodia yesterday afternoon/evening, filming the next leg's stand-ups today. Teams get in late, and start racing for real tomorrow. Does that narrow our range?

Personally, I want to know what flies OUT of Bangok. Especially south. I'm thinking it is time for our "We'll always have India" leg(s).

Hmmm.. That could be right. The Bangkok twitter about "saw two teams running around Bangkok airport" was sent at ~6AM EST 7/26, which equals Bangkok time of 5PM. Now we don't know exactly what time the tweeter saw them, but I was assuming close to that time. But he must have seen them much earlier?  In order for them to be there in Dubai in the evening...

Scratch mine then.

Current time in Dubai is Monday 7/27 5:23 AM

edited to reflect corrected info posted below.

For example, flight TG517 took 6 hrs 02 min and arr  Local Time:   4:30 AM - Mon Jul 27, 2009

This is an error, I definitely have a learning curve going on here.

The flight actually arrived at

Arrival Status Details

Airport:    (DXB) Dubai Airport

City:    Dubai, AE
Scheduled:    9:30 PM - Sun Jul 26, 2009
Actual:    9:20 PM - Sun Jul 26, 2009  << This is Dubai time, which is 3 hours earlier than Bangkok time.

So since we now know from spoilers that they were seen in Dubai looking for a clue ~1030PM, this flight makes perfect sense, both from a dep from Phnom Penh point of view time and an arr time in Dubai.

I'm thinking our guys sighted were in the lead. Nothing leaving Phnom Penh after noon arrives earlier. Here are some other flights I found...

PG 934 to Bangkok, 1530-1640; TG 517 to Dubai, 1800-2130
FD 3617 to Bangkok, 1630-1740; EK 373 to Dubai, 2125-0030
MI 607 to Singapore, 1810-2110; SQ 492 to Dubai, 2240-0155

Per the guy that was on the flight with the racers into Dubai:  They were on Thai Airways flight 517 (although I'm waiting for him to confirm the date!)

Good job on figuring out the flights everyone...now we have some confirmation about some of the teams being on that plane.

Probably a billion ways to get from Dubai to Amsterdam. There are no direct flights for our racers, so how fast they get to the airport will determine when they arrive in Amsterdam. The actual racing begins the next day though (they arrive in the late afternoon), so there's probably a bunching or a staggered start...

Here are a couple of possibilities for the morning of 29 Jul:
EK 59 (0900-1345), then WA 1782 (1515-1625) via Hamburg
CX 63 (0905-1220), then CL 4698 (1515-1645) via Munich
MH 6142 (1000-1430), then KL 1768 (1545-1700) via Frankfurt

Apskip's not free to post at the moment, so I'm conveying this message:

Quote from: apskip
I have these flights from Dubai to connecting cities which then have flights to Amsterdam landing late afternoon on July 29:

Vienna 0955
Hamburg 0900
Birmingham 0805
Zurich 0840
Rome 0925
Manchester 0755
Munich 0835

It's difficult without 'yer, Apskip! Be back ASAP!

More from apskip:

With a single connection starting from Talinn, AR15 could go to any major city in Europe or Africa.

Here are the 24 flights (not counting to Stockholm or to Gothernburg since AR15 was previously in Sweden or to Vilnius since AR12 was there) in alphabetical order of the destination city which could be taken on Tuesday Aug. 4 out of Talinn:

Brussels        OV177 1815 1955
Copenhagen OV141 0640 0720
Copenhagen OV143 1255 1335
Copenhagen OV145 1810 1845
Dublin            OV201 2230 2350
Frankfurt       LH3179 1840 2010
Helsinki         AY3940 0615 0650
Helsinki         AY3922 0820 1850
Helsinki         AY3926 1445 1520
Helsinki         AY3930 1755 1830
Helsinki         AY3932 2130 2205
London Gatwick OV101 1615 1715
Moscow         OV301  1325 1605
Oslo              OV137  1425 1505
Oslo              DY1067 2215 2255
Paris             OV171   0800 1010
Prague          OK879  1515 1625
Riga              BT364   0520 0615
Riga              BT312   1010 1105
Riga              BT366   0850 0845
Riga              BT312   1010 1105
Riga              BT314   1140 1235
Riga              BT316   1610 1705
Riga              BT362   2115 2210

Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Paris and Prague are all major airports with connections to other places in Europe as well as to Africa.

My personal hunch is that Copehagen will be visited for the first time in the leg following Talinn. Depending on whether there was a second leg in Dubai, that next leg will be either 9 or 10.

More:

We should not forget that teams had to get from Amsterdam to Stockholm in order to presumably do a leg and then get on the ferry Stockholm to Talinn.

Here are the possiblities for flights AMS to ARN on Friday July 31:

KL1107 0655 0855
KL1109 0925 1125
KL1113 1210 1410
KL1115 1440 1640
SK1556 1800 1955
KL1121 2110 2310

I have some info here thanks ForzaRenati in response to primefun's first Tallinn video

Quote
I did exactly spot this team at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport for two weeks ago while I was waiting for my flight to Japan

I asked the date and team ..

Quote
Re: The Amazing Race Re: The Amazing Race I saw them on July 25th evening at the airport. I do not remember the team, but there was a lady and a man. It looked like they were trying to find tickets to the next destination, they did even borrow a computer from a check-in disk for International flights.

eta:I thought the info might help with the flights to Dubai and date etc
