Lukes post interview

(1/4) > >>

crickettu:
So i was just watching some of the post interviews that the winners and loser gave and came across luke post interview and it just made my blood boil. Luke is such a sore loser. He was saying how it is nothing speacial that Victor and Tammy won and that if him and his mom or even the cheerleaders won it would make it a more intersting win. cuz a deaf kid would have won or an all female team winning but with Victor and Tammy it was nothing speacial just a brother and sister team. Well yeah but has there ever been an Asian American team to win? I know there is an Asian version of TAR but in the American version so far none till now.

But back to the interview just his tone made me annoyed at him. While I like Margie I am no longer a luke fan. The video is posted on CBS's website for TAR. Wonder what others think about his interview. And if my view is in the minority in here

mswood:
Well like it or not (not his tone I can't judge that), but having an all female team win would be for many fans special (has it is something that hasn't happened), or if Margie & Luke had won it would be considered special (for two reasons) the first time someone with a handicap (no matter what type) was on a winning team or the first parent/child winning team.  Neither of those have happened as well.

While I do hate that attitude (personally I tend to root for the best racing team (I generally don't give rats ass about its makeup), its one that is very much a consideration of many fans and the people who cast the show in the first place.

One only has to look at the lack of what is called alpha male (young fit athletic men) teams (since race 10) not to mention the absolute refusal to consider any alpha male team for all stars (though clearly several were far, far worthier of many of the teams picked) as a way to combat the feeling that an alpha male team is old hat, its a foregone conclusion that they will win.  Many fans (myself not among them) automatically hate alpha male teams because its old hat for them to win.

Hell even when Flo won (shrugs) it was considered somewhat ground breaking because she was the first female to be a part of a team that one.

And now 14 season in male/female teams are the type that have won the most (though Tammy & Victor are only the 2nd brother/sister team and are the first asian team to win they aren't the first minority team to win).

To me it would be like we had a lesbian team win.  The thrust would be that its an all women team, the lesbian angle wouldn't stand out as much since we have had homosexuals who have won.

Or to use another example, say if Erwin and Godwin actually took the race seriously as a competition and had won.  I think most fans would still see them primarily as another alpha male team (Young/ fit and actually smart) more so then look the first asian team that won.  Of course since they sucked at racing as a team against other teams we didn't ever have to worry about it.

If Derek & Drew won I don't think people would be going look its the first set of twins that won.  I think they would first think its another alpha male team that won.

It is in that regard that I think Luke (and a lot of fans) would see it.

When Ron & Christian were in the finales I always heard more about them being the possibility of first parent/child winning team then first asian team as a secondary qualifier.

Its like Luke while it is true his handicap is that he is deaf, compared to Charla or Sarah.  I think first and foremost they would be quantified as being handicapped racers, then broken down by what said handicap is.

In the same way that Victor & Tammy are broken down as genders first, then as siblings then minority then what type of minority.

Some racers think that either Luke and Marge or Cara and Jamie had help from production and who shared this info with who is anyones guess. Maybe this is why the contestants were sequestered from each other towards the end? and TPTB were trying to turn these teams against each other?
^^^^^^^^^^^
We know that their were many rumors that Charla and Mirna were helped with flight info to further them along and Romber were also helped by production so the cast thought so anyway. A former racer had told me way back when that Romber along with Susan and Patrick were so hopelessly lost in Peru that production picked them off an literally dropped them off at the pitstop giving them second and third place. It could also be said that TPTB stepped in to get Ucheena and Joyce on that now famous/conspiracy flight so that their would be competition at the end, not a run away by Romber. I recall a rumor for All Stars that TPTB did not like the way Romber were racing, dominating all the legs, and that there was indeed no letter for Romber at the post office roadblock.
Heck we heard that Lyn and Karlyn (TAR10) were not even allowed on the flight from Paris with Rob/Kim Tyler/James ..because TPTB did not like them

Those are a few instances that come to mind sooooooo Rumors or no?
And thanks mswood for bringing up some good points, you sure do know your stuff!

If those rumors were true, then I wouldn't want to have much to do with TAR anymore...I can't stand the idea of the race being rigged in order to advance teams just because they are different in some way. The teams that do well deserve to go far. Those that don't...should be eliminated.

I'm tired of the whole focus on "minority" teams setting records. I think it's becoming too much of a cliche and does nothing. There will always be precedents set and after a while it just gets too overdiscussed to even worry about it anymore. I do admit that the idea of an all-female team winning is appealing, but to me there's just something wrong with making these people all about their uniqueness/disabilities and not about who they really are. If a contestant with a disability acts like a jerk, then he/she is a jerk, disability or not.

Plus it's not really fair to the "normal" teams when they get bypassed because there are "better" teams out there with more "diverse" characteristics.

So Luke is being unfair to T/V but I do agree that it was a predictable win. Not just because they were siblings, but because they proved themselves as strong. A M/L win would have been predictable, too, for that reason.

That's my view on this subject. Just throwing that out there.

Wow! Interesting rumors! Funny how most of them surround the two seasons when Rob and Amber were on. Disappointing if they turn out to be true. If that rumor about Susan & Patrick and Rob & Amber turned out to be true, do you think maybe it was for safety reasons? Didn't they kind of do the same for Peter & Sarah in Kuwait (if I remember correctly)?
