This episode was great, I thought, except the new preview style bothered me a bit. No mention of Steve & Linda? But either way, I thought the whole "NOW TONIGHT: Tammy & Victor etc." was kind of interesting.

Hey, speaking of Tammy & Victor, were they supposed to have a 'mat meltdown'? That didn't look quite like a meltdown, but I was happy that Victor realized he was acting ridiculous towards Tammy. I'm not sure, this season has been full of surprises, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a rebound and came in 1st again next week.

And, also, speaking of first place, way to go Mel & Mike! Had I not looked at spoilers (or Joab's game) I never would've seen it coming!

And neither Brad & Victoria's elimination, either. I still thought for sure it would be Christie & Jodi. Eh. Congratulations to the flight attendants for not coming in second-to-last and starting a new round of Dandrew-style jokes. As for Brad & Victoria... :'(

Romania was interesting, and the tasks were as well. I felt sorry for the poor girl gymnasts, getting up at around midnight for that. :P Otherwise, Brasov/Bran was pretty cool, too.

An interesting episode overall, and I thought it was better than last weeks, even though elimination was pretty much inevitable once B&V missed their flight.

Brad and Victoria are gone! :crybabe:
Peach, they were a favorite team of mine based on their excellent performance the first 2 legs and their attitude. However, you have to admit that they took unnecessary risks in an effort to get ever-so-slightly(15 minutes) ahead. Call it the Uchenna/Joyce syndrome. Trying to make close connections in busy major European airports is never a good thing (also true here in the U.S.). This almost happened to me with a 2 hour gate hold delay coming back from Bucharest to Warsaw. We had 10 minutes to connect and there were multiple security checkpoints and way more than 1/2 mile of running(I can't really, but I had no choice here). Only having an escort from the arriving plane to the departing plane who got us instant priorty at the checkpoints made this possible.

My conclusion is that Brad/Victoria got greedy! Just as it was for Uchanna/Joyce in Frankfurt it did not take much in the way of problems to blow down their house of cards.

I feel for Victor. I'm pretty sure I would have done the same thing.

Yes, and that sure looks like a marker too. :funny:

Pretty ironic that there were those tree markings anyway.  They were not quite right, but right enough to confuse.  I wonder where they really led to?  You would figure that after a few hours of hiking you'd think 'I'm sure they wouldn't have put the detour this far away'...

And i think Tammy and Victor really seriously got lucky here. They would have been eliminated had it not been Brad and Victoria's flight. Would have been a Azaria and Hendekea shocker!!

I completely agree, from the start Tammy & Victor reminded me of Azaria and Hendekea.
It'll be ineteresting to see how far T&V make it (we know they go quite a bit farther) because they 'owe' it to Brad & Victoria... well, not really owe it, but really they would easily have been eliminated had it not been for B&V missing their flight.  Always interesting how every little choice one makes alters the whole game.

On a side note:
I live in Portland, Oregon and during one of the commercial breaks for this episode I saw Phil's face but it looked like an infomercial.  Turns out it was an ad for Phil's program "NOW: No Opportunity Wasted" and led you to the website www.ditchtheexcuses.com
Apparently there are two Ditch the Excuses workshops in Portland this weekend.  I was excited until I saw the small print "Phil Keoghan will not appear at the event".

Mel and Mike - Great job done! I was very happy to see them clinch first place. They work really well together and I'm liking them quite a lot now, I hope they stick around. And I just love it that for these three episodes, we've had three different teams coming in first! That is why I just LOVE TAR 14!

Amanda and Kris - Well thankfully the loss of their fanny pack did not jeopardise their chances. They could have been first, but at least they weren't eliminated, and second place is awesome. I just love how they're so nice to each other, no argument even with the misplacement of their fanny pack. And thank God they found it. =)

Kisha and Jen - Nicely done! Other than their bickerings, I think they're a pretty nice team. But seeing that this season's teams are so likeable, they're one of the two teams I kinda don't mind seeing eliminated soon hee... But still, great job this episode, they soared ahead from nowhere!

Margie and Luke - Still working fantastic together, I simply love this team. Margie was awesome at the Roadblock! They're indeed a strong team, having stayed so consistent since the first episode. Margie and Luke for another win!

Mark and Michael - I wish they'd lost to Christie and Jodie in the footrace but well... This is another team I wouldn't mind seeing eliminated soon. They're alright, but yeah, the team I like the least out of the eight teams remaining.

Christie and Jodie - Yay, they're finally not second to last! I still feel amused sometimes when I see them dragging their suitcases everywhere. Doesn't that slow them down? It's amusing to watch though, and I still love this team. =)

Cara and Jaime - Bad luck with the cab there, but I like how they're still nice to each other and the other teams. I'm hoping they'll get out of the "backpacker zone" soon. Win a leg or something!

Tammy and Victor - I must say, this must be a shocking moment, them getting eighth place. A strong, competitive team, coming in second and first for the first two legs, falling to eighth place! They're indeed lucky that Brad and Victoria missed their flight, otherwise they'd have been toast. Still love this team, I love how Victor admited his mistakes and actually cried cos he felt bad. I believe that after this race, they'll love each other even more deeply. They remind me of Ronald and Christina totally, and I'd love for them to go far!

Brad and Victoria - The team I liked the least out of the nine teams, so I was happy that they were eliminated. I admire their perserverance though!

LOVE TAR 14!!!!!!!!

Phil: This is Salzburg, Austria, birthplace of Mozart. Scholss Helbrunn, palace, was the 2nd pitstop in a Race around the world.

Tammy/Vic, CLUE, 10:13 am. Make your way to Bucharest, Romania.
Phil: Travel to Munich, land in Bucharest. Take a taxi to the place where Nadia Comaneci trained for gymnastics.
Vic is barking at her already, with a multi-hour lead. WTF!?
Describing flight times, travel agency woman: It's half past three. Then quarter to five ...
They'll train to Munich.

Mel/Mike, 12:01 pm.
(1 hour 48 minute lead for T/V)
Amanda/Kris, 12:12
Margie/Luke, 12:30. Luke signs something about wanting to be able to communicate with the other teams and know what they're talking about.
Mom thought Bucharest was Hungary. Kellie Pickler much?

Tammy/Vic, airport in Munchen get the 3:20 flight.

Brad/Victoria, CLUE, 12:53 pm.
Brad was a drug addict and alcoholic. Now he's just a R O B O T
Jaime/Cara, 1:17 or summat.

Mel/Mike get on a train. As do Margie/Luke, Brad/Victoria
Amanda/Kris find a nice man on the train to help them get 4:45 flight reservations, but what a tight connection - 20 minutes from the train station to the gate. Ummm ... I thought you needed 30 minutes for int'l flights??

Flight departure times compared to airport arrival can vary a great deal from airport to airport. 30 minutes is the minimum I have ever seen. Much of the time the airline personnel at checkin prevent you from proceeding by not giving you the necessary papers if you are less than the minimum, but sometimes asking very nicely or sometimes very assertively can get them to let you try. There are numerous examples from earlier Amazing Races.

Check their mat chat in the Insider footage.  He's sobbing quite a bit in it.

I didn't like this episode very much. The editing is starting to bother me with it's extremely high amount of footage for Margie & Luke, Tammy & Victor, and Mel & Mike. Tone it down, CBS editors! We've got Christie & Jodi, Mark & Michael, Amanda & Kris, and Jaime & Cara as practically INVISABLE teams! I was also very annoyed by the freaky "previously" segment that only featured the teams that are already overfeatured. I really want more of these invisible teams now, before it's too late! (:;) :knuckles:

Okay, now to the teams:

Mel & Mike: Very interesting to see them come in first, but I wanted Amanda & Kris to. It's really unusual for a team like this to be doing so well, and I kind of enjoy seeing the weak beat the strong. But the team I like more is...

Amanda & Kris: They are impressing me with how well they are getting along. I was hoping when they finished just about everything in first that they would win the leg. Oh well. Second is amazing too, I guess. I'm just glad Tammy & Victor weren't up here!

LaKisha & Jennifer: They got along better this time, but to me they just feel sort of empty. Like they don't have any real story to them. I want more footage of them so I can get to know them better.

Margie & Luke: We still got too much of them this time, but thankfully not as much as the first and second episodes. The Tammy & Victor fiasco prevented that, which was both good and bad. I like them, but I want to see the other teams, too.

Mark & Michael: Practically none of them this week. They were just sort of there, but I was surprised when they came up and passed Christie & Jodi. I don't know why.

Christie & Jodi: I didn't see much of them this week, either (sound like a broken record, yet?). Not much else to say but I'm happy they are in a different (and better) placing now. I still don't know whether I like them or not. Not enough footage to decide.

Jaime & Cara: Ditto the above, though they got more footage this time. They seem very competitive, and that makes me happy!

Tammy & Victor: I couldn't believe how awfully they did this time! It was amazing, because I find them annoying. I just kind of wish they had gone home instead of Brad & Victoria. This was one of the rare instances where it seemed like one team member was actually trying to sabotage their teams' chances. It reminded me of Rob & Amber when they were eliminated in All-Stars...like they were trying to get eliminated. Call me weird for saying that, but that's what it looked like, and I was surprised to see that from them.

Brad & Victoria: They were truly amazing racers who actually had a great chance of winning, and being one of my favorites, I was very unhappy to see them go, but it was a foregone conclusion 15 minutes into the episode. It made me leave the episode with a really bad taste in my mouth (especially after the bad editing), because we didn't get enough footage of them, either. At the mat, the second-to-last place team got more airtime than they did. It shouldn't ever be like that.

So yeah, overall, the tasks were excellent and would-be entertaining for me, but the terrible editing imbalance prevented me from enjoying this episode. Hoping for better next week. :jam:

Hooky:

You do understand that this race was completed on Nov.22 and the editing was completed before the beginning of the telecasts of AR14. Wishing that the coverage of specific teams were different is fruitless.

Also, at least The Amazing Race is still here!  We were starting to think that there wouldn't be a TAR 14!  I like this season a lot more then the past two seasons!

I also wonder where those red and white marks led to.
Perhaps it leads to vampires!

I know exactly what Hooky means though. It is very frustrating as a viewer to want to get to know all of the teams better, and to be given so little on some.

And yes, that was interesting to see what T/V were struggling with, but it also would have been interesting to see what B/V were struggling with, and more about the decisions they were making.

And Mark and Michael have truly been invisible almost, until this episode, and they are a dynamite team that I would like to see more from.

I'm sure it is frustrating for the editors as well, to have hours of fabulous footage and not enough time to show it all.

What do you all think about the "freaky" intro that leaves out Steve and Linda?

Here's what I think about the teams so far:

Mel & Mike:  Nice job.  You did a fine job with the Roadblock and the Detour -- even if the Detour was a hard task for you.  You would've come in second if Amanda & Kris hadn't misplaced their fanny pack, however.

Amanda & Kris:  You really rocked for most of the leg!  Unfortunately, you really shouldn't have misplaced your fanny pack!  Lucky for you that you didn't lose it altogether.

LaKisha & Jen -- wow!  You were the highest all-female team this leg!  Didn't expect it from you.  And at least you did better as a team this leg!

Margie & Luke -- not bad, guys.  Not bad.

Mark & Michael -- good job with the Roadblock and Detour.  Nice recovery from your mistake last leg.  And you had enough leg strength to beat Christie & Jodi.

Christie & Jodi -- for once, you weren't in the next-to-last spot!  Great job!

Cara & Jamie -- ouch!  The Curse of the Bad Taxi Cab Driver hit you this leg!  Not what you needed.  But at least you managed to avoid coming in last.

Tammy & Victor -- sigh.  This was just a terrible leg for you.  I think the stress of falling from the front of the pack to the back of it caused things to go from bad to worse from you.  At least you're still in the Race.

Brad & Victoria -- maybe in retrospect, you should've gotten on the same flight as the later teams did.  If you had, Tammy & Victor might well be gone.  But you didn't, and you paid for it.

What's interesting is seeing how Margie and Luke fared in comparison to Cara & Jamie.  With those two teams traveling together in the final aspect of the leg.  4th and 7th.

What was also nice was seeing Luke and Margie keeping their word in telling Cara & Jamie if they found the path.

Cara and Jaime have proven themselves good people to Margie & Luke and you have to imagine in their lifetime they have been confronted with some bad hearted people...
