An interesting article:

Dancing's Karina Smirnoff "Feels Great" After Knee Surgery

Recently enganged Dancing with the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff is recovering well from a recent knee surgery, and looks forward to Dancing's new season.

"I feel great," Smirnoff told E! News. "I'm walking around easily, doing my physical therapy. The doc did an amazing job and said that I should be 100 percent by Feb. 10th."

Smirnoff injured her knee on the Dancing with the Stars tour last year. An MRI showed a torn meniscus. She went under the knife on Jan. 30, and was forced to miss an appearance with fiancé Maksim Chmerkovskiy at the Shrine Asian Kitchen nightclub in Foxwoods, Conn.

Smirnoff's injury and surgery won't keep her from hitting the parquet on March 9 for Dancing's eighth season. "[Karina] is resting comfortably and is expected to make a full recovery," Smirnoff's rep said. "She's looking forward to the new season."

An interesting article:

Dancing's Mark Ballas and Derek Hough to Release Album

March is gearing up to be a big month for Mark Ballas and Derek Hough. Not only are they returning to the floor on Dancing with the Stars, but the two BFFs are set to release their first studio album as well. BHB by the very creatively named Ballas Hough Band will hit stores March 10, a day after Season 8 of Dancing premieres. Coincidence? We think not.

The Ballas Hough Band, formerly known as Almost Amy, is not a two-man show though. Alongside Ballas and Hough on vocals and guitar, respectively, are Emily Grace on keyboards and vocals, Sam Marder on bass and Harry Sullivan on drums. The 11-track BHB includes the first single "Do It For You," which was co-written by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.

Long before they won back-to-back Mirror Ball trophies, Ballas and Hough were writing and playing together as preteens and have frequently toured over the years with Almost Amy. (Remember this incident?) "I'm sure that people's first reaction to us will be, 'These dancing guys think they can play guitar now?'" Hough says. "But after seeing us play, they'll realize that this is not a Hollywood move to make a quick buck."

The Ballas Hough Band is currently playing local clubs after each stop on the Dancing winter tour. The band is also planning a summer tour in support of the disc.

As for Dancing, Ballas' and Hough's celebrity partners, along with all the pairings, will be revealed Sunday.

An interesting article:

Carrie Ann Inaba and Artem Chigvintsev Have Split

Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba and her boyfriend of 2½ years, dancer Artem Chigvintsev, have called it quits, Inaba tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"I'm single. Artem and I broke up in the beginning of November," says Inaba, adding, "As much as our relationship was really good," the two realized that neither "was 'the one' for the other. It was very sad to let go of something that was so good on so many levels."

Inaba, 41, first met Chigvintsev, 26, several years ago, while he was competing on the FOX reality show So You Think You Can Dance. The two began dating in 2006.

Calling the breakup amicable, Inaba praises her ex for being "a fine gentleman. I have never gone out with somebody that grounded, always ready to talk it out. I'm very happy for him and the success he's having."

Chigvintsev is currently on tour with the live show Dancing with the Stars, which wraps in Philadelphia Feb. 8. In the meantime, Inaba is prepping for Dancing's eighth TV season, which kicks off March 9 on ABC.

As announced this evening on ABC's "All Night Name Drop," in alphabetical order, the 13 stars making their ballroom dancing debut are:

BELINDA CARLISLE - Belinda Carlisle is not only known as the lead singer of the Go-Go's, the most successful all-female band of all time, but also as one of the late 80's most glamorous adult pop soloists. The Go-Gos' 1981 multi-platinum hit debut, "Beauty and the Beat," spawned mega hits "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" and made the Go-Go's the first all-female band (who wrote their own music and played their own instruments) to achieve a #1 album.  The following years saw continued success for the girls with hits "Vacation," "Head Over Heels," and "Turn To You."  Belinda led off her solo career with the gold debut "Belinda," and followed with huge mainstream hits "Mad About You," "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and "I Get Weak," to name a few.  Since then, Belinda has released 5 more albums, including 2007's French pop collection, "Voila," and continues to tour internationally, both with her Go-Go's sisters and as a solo artist.

DAVID ALAN GRIER -- Grier is often recognized for his work in television and film - in TV he is known from roles in "In Living Color," "Life with Bonnie" with Bonnie Hunt, "DAG," and most recently, "Chocolate News" for Comedy Central. In the feature film world, Grier has played memorable characters in numerous feature film roles, including "Baadassss!", "The Woodsman" opposite Kevin Bacon and Mos Def, "15 Minutes," "Boomerang," "Bewitched," Jumanji," and Robert Altman's "Streamers."   A multi-talented and Yale School of Drama trained actor, Grier began his professional career on Broadway as Jackie Robinson in "The First," for which he earned a Tony nomination. He then joined the cast of "Dreamgirls," went on to star opposite Denzel Washington in "A Soldier's Play;" both actors continued their roles in the film version, "A Soldier's Story."

JEWEL -- She grew up on a remote ranch in Alaska where her family were original pioneers.   From poverty and teen homelessness, to the triumph of international stardom, the three-time Grammy nominee has enjoyed career longevity rare among her generation of artists and has sold twenty-seven million albums worldwide.  Her debut album Pieces of You, became one of the best selling debut albums of all time, going platinum twelve times.  Last year, singer/songwriter Jewel released her first country record Perfectly Clear which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.  In May 2009, she will release an album of original and traditional lullabies.  Jewel lives on a working ranch in Stephenville, Texas with her husband, World Champion bull-riding superstar, Ty Murray.

SHAWN JOHNSON - The youngest ever competitor on "Dancing with the Stars," 17 year-old Olympian Shawn Johnson was the gold medalist in balance beam at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing where she also earned 3 silver medals in the team, floor exercise and individual all-around categories. On film, she has appeared in "Zoolander," "She's All That," "Juwanna Man," and "You Got Served." She is currently working on her 5th studio album is expected to be released in 2009.

GILLES MARINI -- Gilles Marini exploded onto the scene as Dante, the Casanova living in the beach house next door to Kim Cattrall's Samantha in the "Sex and the City" movie, a role which has earned him international recognition. Born and raised in France, Gilles joined the French army and was stationed in Paris, where he acted as a fireman for the famous Brigade des Sapeurs Pompiers de Paris. After fulfilling his military duties, Gilles decided to go to the United States to learn English while working as a model. Gilles, who has appeared in series such as "Ugly Betty," "Dirty Sexy Money," and "Criminal Minds," will next be seen as Vanessa Redgrave's husband on FX's "Nip/Tuck."  Gilles currently resides in California with his wife Carole, son Georges, and daughter Juliana.
TY MURRAY -- Ty Murray has been labeled the most accomplished rodeo athlete in the century-long history of the sport.  With a record-setting seven All-Around World Championship titles and two bull riding world titles under his belt, Murray has truly earned his nickname as "King of the Cowboys." Now retired from competition, Murray spends his time with his singer-songwriter wife, Jewel, on their 2,100-acre private ranch in Stephenville, Texas.   Murray may have retired in the arena but he hasn't slowed down as a cowboy.  In 2004, Murray helped shepherd National Day of the Horse unanimously through the U.S. Senate, encouraging Americans "to be mindful of the contribution of horses to economy, history and character of the United States." He runs his working cattle ranch and trains horses throughout the year. Additionally, he remains active with the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. Steve-O wrote himself a "mile of work" to do for Tremaine and "Jackass." When MTV rejected his more dangerous ideas, Steve-O produced his own "too hot for TV" video series and stage show with the "Don't Try This At Home Tour". Steve-O also starred in his own show for MTV - "Wildboyz."

I guess we'll find out who all the partners are during the name dropping tonight.

One team we already know is Chuck and Julianne. I thought she wasn't dancing this season. Probably changed her mind because she is dancing with her boyfriend.

An interesting article:

Access’ Nancy O’Dell Among New ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Cast

Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell has made a living interviewing celebrities. Now, she’s about to join the “Stars.”

“Dancing With the Stars” revealed the latest cast of celebrities gearing up to lace up their dancing shoes and strut their way into the homes of millions during the “All Night Name Drop” on ABC Sunday night.

The dancing hopefuls include Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell, rapper Lil’ Kim, former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor, “Jackass” wild man Steve-O, actress and reality show star Denise Richards, Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, singer Jewel, rodeo star Ty Murray (who is also Jewel’s husband), actor and comedian David Alan Grier, “Sex and The City” guy candy Gilles Marini, country singer Chuck Wicks (who is also Julianne Hough’s boyfriend), former Go-Go’s singer Belinda Carlisle and Apple computers co-founder Steve Wozniak.

“I’m panicked, petrified, nervous, scared and excited all rolled up together!” Nancy told Access. “When ‘DWTS’ asked if I would do the show, everyone told me I had to do it…my husband, my boss, my parent-in-laws, my sister, my dad, my kids, my manager. People love that show and so do I. However, after watching season after season, I never ever thought I’d be one of the competitors! But my baby girl loves to dance so now she can watch mama dancing. Hopefully that’s what it will look like anyway…”

“Dancing” host Tom Bergeron announced the celeb cast in between the shows on ABC’s Sunday night lineup including “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Brothers and Sisters.”

“Good Morning America” will have the first live in-studio interview with one of the new celebrity dancers on Monday morning.

Jimmy Kimmel will host another contestant of “Dancing’s” Season 8 on Tuesday night on his late night show.

The new season of “Dancing With the Stars” will premiere on March 9 on ABC.
