Michael Munoz

=========================

Height
4' 9" (1.45 m)

Mini Biography
Mike, a native of Santa Monica, California, grew up at the beach surfing, skateboarding and doing beach gymnastics by the Santa Monica pier. As a youth he enjoyed impersonating the "Greats" like Al Jolson, Mario Lanza, Sammy Davis Jr., Laurel and Hardy and the Three Stooges. By the time Mike was 12 years old he was not only a top award winning AAU Jr Olympic Diver, but also a professional dancer in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Flamenco, Hindu, all Polynesian styles and yes, even figure skating. At the age of 13, he went to work for Disney as "Mowgli" in the Christmas Parade and continued to work for Disney for many years as Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio and many others. Mike also started taking acting and voice classes and decided that entertainment was absolutely his life's path.

Having always been into surfing, he was also one of the early (late 60s and 70s), innovative trend setting skateboarders from Santa Monica/Venice, aka "Dogtown". Quite often Mike and his buddies (and brothers, Mario and Mark) would surf in the morning and drive up to the local mountains to ski in the afternoon, come home and skateboard all night. This lead to learning many outdoor sports like rock climbing, roller blading, snowboarding, mountain biking, motorcycles, horses and more. This also made him decide to pursue a career in stunt work, which has been a natural and rewarding transition. Mike loves to act, dance and sing and will do so at the drop of a hat.

Mike married his long time friend, Marisa, in 1983 and has two stepsons, David and Kristopher. Mike has known Marisa since kindergarten and they have always been very close. They have, at the time of this writing, 7 grandchildren - Liliana, Marisa, Anthony, Kris, Robert, Keoni and Koa.

IMDb Mini Biography By: Anonymous

The Little People of America website says:

Quote
Little People of America, Inc., is a national non-profit organization that provides support and information to people of short stature and their families.  We are the only dwarfism support organization that includes all 200+ forms of dwarfism.  There are an estimated 30,000 people with dwarfism in the United States, and 651,700 in the world. No other non-profit in the world provides more resources, support and information for people with dwarfism.

Membership is offered to those people who are usually no taller than 4'10" in height. Their short stature is generally caused by one of the more than 200 medical conditions known as dwarfism.

And I do believe that the preferred term IS "Little People", NOT dwarves or midgets, please.

Coutzy, what someone uses as a term of reference is not as important as the reality of that situation. I have looked at over 10 definitions of "dwarf" and they all basically come down to "abnormally small in stature". The fact that some people refer to a 4'9" person as a dwarf does not make it so. I found no specific delineation of the maxmum height for a dwarf, so I think we should go with Peach's identification of 4'10" as the meximum height for "little people", which should be the only reference of this type for them on RFF for the next 4 weeks and entirety of AR14.

I don't think people really LIKE being called dwarves.
 (:;)
The most likely reason cbs hasn't released the teams yet is because of the inauguration.

Thank you apskip and Snooky!

That was what I was trying to say.

We went through this with Charla, and I was educated myself on this. "Dwarfism" is the medical condition. The terms "midgets" and to a lesser extent "dwarves" are considered derogatory when applied to "Little People".

I too did not realize that the cut off is considered to be 4' 10", but what counts is how Michael and Mark refer to themselves. Since they use the term "Little People", so will we.

So please, as Apskip has said, let's all use the preferred terminology here from now on, okay? Short men and Little People are both acceptable, "Dwarves" and "Midgets" are NOT.

Thanks! :ghug:

So in the end, they were about as short as described. I can understand why they were called dwarfs, as it's not a well known difference between "dwarfs" and "little people".

So team 10 are Michael/Mark and are brothers. Cool!. We havent had brothers since season 10. Do we have ages. I would say Michael being Married in 1983 could put him between 45-55 and I am leaning towards more closer to 50 and Mark is in or around 40's?!

And their names on the race are Mark/Mike or Mark and Michael

And puddin, haha, I don't know why I was scared to post, but as someone who's been watching since episode 1 of season 1, I figured I should finally get around to it. I think I was just waiting till I had something to contribute... :yess:

The point I was trying to make there was that there was a team of little people that made it to Thailand, which some people were doubting. I wasn't trying to make any derogatory comments towards anybody.

The problem is that since the rest of the info provided was partially inaccurate and never explained, it forces us to question this part as well, as much as it would be helpful to believe it.

I very  well understand that sources are not always completely correct, and expect that this may very well be just a miscommunication somehow. But we really need some more objective evidence here.

So unless you can re-clarify directly with her what she saw or heard, or better yet, provide those discussed photos, we sadly have to continue to treat this as speculation.
