One more thing about this shot is that if it is Fermin Point then it was taken really late in the day. Something like 2 to 3 pm. Too late for a typical TAR start time.
This shot was taken between 2:14 and 2:53 pm (assumes October 31st)
Chateau d, I am going to respectfully disagree with your determination that this is Pt. Fermin. Where is the lighthouse on the end of the point? Where are the trees that are right behind the lighthouse? And most of all, where are all the houses that are across the street from the lighthouse? The housing density does not compare to Pt. Fermin and San Pedro. This is a very barren promontory of land. Also, if this is Pt. Fermin, where is the jetty that protects the harbor of Long Beach?
What is the promontory in the background? There is nothing that close to Pt Fermin to the north or west, till you get to the old Marineland. I thought at first maybe this was Pt Vincente, the far promontory, in Palos Verdes. So I tried to figure out where the helicopter had to be to make the shot and I couldn't get any reasonable angle.
To me, the lack of housing density just precludes this to be Pt. Fermin or anywhere UP the coast from there. If you look at that Google Earth shot you posted, it is full of houses.
One other question I have, is the two Sea Stallon helicopters in the promo. That helicopter will hold 37 fully geared up marines. Without gear, it will hold 55 people. Even if all 11 teams and their camera crews were onboard....one helicopter would be enough. If it wasn't for the picture of the one team, in helicopter gear, I would almost think it was stock footage of flying helicopters. Now that you put a time of day on it, it makes even less sense. If in fact it is some place farther south or east down the coast or on Catalina Island, the time of the photo wouldn't vary all that much. I would think at that time of day, teams should be at the airport or maybe even in the air already on the way to Europe. I haven't gone back to check on Apskip's flight timetables from LAX, but sure seems to late in the day to be flying around in helicopters to me.
