:hearts: That has to be the coolest program ever! Two of my favorite things, trains and MAPS! :ty3:

Guess this means I better get to work on the new MAP thread, huh? :funny:

Sorry kiwi!

Cast Release is going to be on Monday, Jan 26.  ;)

WOW!

They picked Australia Day!

This is surely a sign that CBS will make an Australian edition!

(Well, I can dream, cant I?)

If they don't make an Australian edition, I will! :sucks

Whoever said that the cast release is on the 26th, do we have proof of that or were you speculating? That is too late compared with all but one of the recent seasons cast releases.

That would be me, Hooky.

And I am trusting the source on this, it appears to be quite reliable.

I agree it is quite late though.

Isn't it speculated they took trains in Romania too.......it might be there. But sure seems we are going to see some trains this race........hoorayyyyy!!!
Dr. Rox, it's a nice thought. The train route in Romania has mountains but only one small passage along a lake. As others(including me) have said the railway line shown could be the Trans-Siberian Express, which is a high probability when teams are in Siberia as it is one of the few reliable means of transportation(although it limits you to cities on that line). However, my best guess is still Switzerland, home of alps and many fabulous train routes. I got to ride many of them using a 8 day Swiss rail pass and know the diversity of possilbilities, with the line from Domodossola to Interlaken the most likely.

I can't pin it down, but I suspect that the train is in Switzerland, as pointed out by apskip, mainly because most of the preview scenes are from the first or second ep.  The pair of guys looking out of the window of the train seem to be the same pair as seen in the team lineup (second from the right next to the gals in green).  I doubt that the producers would want to show one team making it Siberia, and that far into the series.  The  only thing that bothers me is that the train cars are all silver.  Most Swiss train have a good deal of color, mostly red, decorating the outside of the rail cars.

New information seems to indicate that the train seen here is not a Swiss train.  Perhaps an Italian train.

I now know more about Italian trains than is healthy...
I believe the train where our little people are risking their necks is this train, that according to the website http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix_frameset.html is used on the Domodossola - Milan run.

Looks like it to me anyways.

I have investigated EuroStar, InterCity and Eurocity trains and the equipment used on them is much more modern than what we appear to see in the train screencap. I do agree with GMan and others that it is likely to be an Italian train. I don't know how international trains originating in Switzerland are handled, but since this run originates in Domodossola Italy, it is entirely appropriate to have Italian trains used.

Domodossola is a bit of a puzzle. Nijjy writes that they were on the Milan-Spiez run (the Cisalpino, perhaps) when teams got on at Domodossola. Since the rail lines at Domodossola form a simple T-junction, that means either: there were tasks in the local area; or they were transferring from the FART. The trouble with the latter is that the FART is slow thing, taking nearly two hours to make the short trip from Locarno; it's more of a scenic/tourist RR than an actual transport alternative. The routing engines I've tried, when asked to create a route from Locarno to Interlaken, all use the Bellinzona-Lucerne-Interlaken route.

Also: if you want to ride the FART (Locarno-Domodossola in about a minute), it's here, but there's nothing that matches the Munoz rail cap. Since the Cisalpino uses silver/gray, that's where my chips will go for now.

The helmets on the middle-aged man and woman look like Soviet era cosmonaut headgear. However, the only training facility I can find in russia is the cosmonaut training program in Star City, a suburb of Russia. I doubt that AR14 went there.

Couldn't that maybe just be in the helicopters we think they fly in on? I doubt we would get much other than Intro or first leg footage here...

Just me speculating, but I'm going to predict that CSI is going to have a new Amazing Race promo. It is CBS' number one show so I hope we're all rolling just in case.

I can't remember if we had nailed down the Siberia location or not, but the eBay pictures of Bonnie Hunt's mat show the mat's carrying case with a Krasnoyarsk airport tag.

They'd probably fetch more for the mat if they sold in on RFF.com

And then the proceeds could go to maintaining the server!
