Okay, Portuguese Bend for sure.  Nice job Slowhatch.

Now with the correct location:

This shot was taken between 10:13  and 10:26 am (assumes October 31st).

;)  OK, just had to check something.... as I was saying, according to GE, it's 29.2 miles from Los Alamitos, AAF to LAX, with an approximate driving time of 37 mins.  Just two major freeways, but I would have thought that the San Diego Freeway was a more direct route.  :duno:  go figure...

Reality check time:  All this assumes that the racers take a "commercial flight" out of LAX. (I don't recall any airport sightings)  Just wondering....

I'll throw in a little more local knowledge and then I'll shut up.
It all depends on which side of the runway you're on. If you're on the south side, taking Valleyview will dump you directly on the 405 feeder (try routing it from Orangewood next to the Navy golf course and you'll see what I mean). The teams are on the north side; in addition to the longer route, the traffic (weekday mornings, at least) on the north 605 will back up (for miles, sometimes) starting at the I-5 junction. Teams could save time going right instead of left on Katella (and avoid the red-light-camera intersection at Los Alamitos blvd.  :rules:  ;D) and then down Valleyview, but it would be counterintuitive.

;)  Good point, and as GE shows, Phil has his back to the control tower which is NORTH of the runway, so maybe the SD Freeway would not be a logical choice.  Looks like the the easiest way to exit the AAF would be to the north.

It could be a number for an order that they will be performing the task next morning, possibly the bungee/paraglide/other tasks already mentioned. But for departure times, they do usually have the time written on it.

If indeed it is an '8', which it looks like to me, we can assume that the mother/son team is not on the first flight in the first leg. :'(
I'd rather walk alone than let them throw dirty confetti. ♥

From the Los Alamitos area there are two routes, as noted, to LAX:

1.  405 North (straight shot)

2.  605 NOrth to the 105 West

You can access LAX from either the 405 or 105.

Considering where they are and then time of day, I personally would take the 405 North.  I wouldn't even give the other route a thought.  I live near the 405/605 intersection and when I am planning to go LAX, route 2 never even crosses my mind.  (coming home however that's another story.

Even if they did head in the direction of the 605, I would expect them to take the 605 south and then onto the 405 North.

Traffic would be tough during that time period regardless however I would think the 405 would be a better bet.

I'd say it would take them roughtly an hour give or take a few.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Some interesting stuff in the "Amazing Race Montage" at the CBS site: pie throwing, carrying cheese downhill, elephant cyclists, segway navigation, ballerinas, etc.

I can't watch this video coz I think I'm outside US. Can someone upload this video to somewhere else? Thanks!

Well, the elephant bike ride is obviously from the Phuket Zoo. I had googled cheese runs earlier, but all I got were Englishmen near Gloucester.

Correct, I thought that would have been the most recognizable building in the world right now.

Where is the stadium in the montage? The version on the CBS site now doesn't have it...

edit: it seems depending on which interstitial is on before the montage you may not see the first bit. It starts with the elephant.
